I like the idea. For version 2, I would recommend getting a few more Peltier modules and flipping thier location with the radiator block. Put the Peltier modules outside, plumbing connected in series, then pump the chilled water to the radiator in the room. This allows for all the heat, both generated by the Peltier modules and that transferred to the water from the radiator, to be moved out of the room.

You will have to deal with the condensation from the pipes coming into your room. Fun fact, the cooler you get the hot side, the cooler it gets on the freezing side. One peltier is not effective... But if you put multiple peltiers in cascade, with different voltage and amperage... You can really get down to temperatures that can be effective. Yet again, the main focus is and it will be to cool the hot side, that is the main problem.
@snehasish72 жыл бұрын
May be a good idea but as @SamiTM says, condensation may be an issue depending on the arrangements (series/parallel) of the Peltier modules. Also, ineffective heat dissipation from the hotter side may cause inefficiency, I think.

Interesting. Very interesting. Would I try it ? No. But I like the concept. However 100 watts of air conditioning will only remove roughly 350 BTU's an hour given that everything is well insulated and running to laboratory specs but since this is real world test you probably have 300 BTU's of air conditioning per hour. Regular home A/C's typically run 3 ton to 5 ton central A/C systems which is 36000 BTU's to 60,000 BTU's. For single rooms, usually a 2700 Watt unit is installed or 3500 watt roughly under 1 ton of refrigeration. Your power consumption of running the power block and the other mini motors is its drawback when it comes to efficiency vs cooling.

this project like is never intended (probably) to highpass or equal regular AC efficiency. But if this can prove worth for a small room, one single person in terms of efficiency, in opposite to buy and install a regular AC, then this project is awesome. My question for you since it seems you are in the "business", is simple: is this project really working ? I mean it is cooling a small 2x3 m^2 room with this concept ?

People have already mentioned that the peltier module is very inefficient. I like the idea you are trying to do but there are a lot of things that makes the system worse that it already is with the peltier's performance. Number one that comes to mind is, "Where is your air intake?" Your box has no opening other then the two in the front with the fans. That means the system is drawing air back through those openings. There is no smooth air flow.

Do you think it’ll be good for like a little desk cooler? Something like those artic air evaporative cooler, if you put the filter on the freezer, it can output similar to air conditioner cold, but it only lasts like 5 minutes before its going back to room temp I wonder if i make a smaller version (not like huge scale like shown in this video) but maybe just little smaller than the artic air cooler, will it feel like the frozen filter from the artic air, but lasts forever And no I don’t mean for this thing to cool down a whole room, just a better version of a desk fan
@exposuredynamic5 жыл бұрын
This video is almost a year old post, but I just seen it today through searching topics about peltier aircoolers. And as I had read almost all of the comment threads, a lot but not generally all the comments, a lot of them didn't really understand the entire concept of this video. And now I just want to share my personal insights about this video: 1. This is only a personal Peltier based aircooler. Don't expect much that this unit will really serve as an airconditioner, because true airconditioners uses refrigerants. And literally speaking, Airconditioner is a general term, he didn't say or put in his title that this is an HVAC or refrigerated air. Common Logic please. But for the benefit of all lets just call this an air cooler. :) 2. The system design is like a cooling system concept just like in the CPU. He didnt accidentally or mistakenly reversed the hot and cold side. Here is why. 2.1. The purpose of the water is to dissipate the heat from the hot side of the peltier, and thats why he uses cooling radiator to recycle the warm water passed by the hotside of the peltier and not to cool the water to serve as a condenser for the air blowing out of the unit. 2.2. The cold side of the peltier was placed infront. He then still put just a small heatsink but to serve as a cold plate to have a more direct contact cooling plate into the cold side of the peltier, then attached a small fan to dissipate the cold air faster and then can be sucked quickly by the two 120mm Fans infront. 2.3. His concept is way more better because he didnt use a direct fan to cool down and dissipate the heat from the hotside of the peltier because there might be a chance that the hot air blown from the hotside will just also might got into or can have effect on the chamber of the cold air. Thumbs up for this! 3. The only thing that he missed or maybe he just forgot is to still put an intake holes for the fans infront. Yes of course there will still be air coming out, but it will not be as strong as with the intake holes. And also just a small drain or catch incase there will be some occurrence of condensation from the cold side of the peltier. That's all. Cheers! :)

I finally found a working prototype of peltier aircon on your video...exactly what I am thinking on how an aircon should work: heat exchanger should be facing outside of the room. Most videos show a box of complete "aircon" system stay in the room (no splitting between cold and hot side) which is an ultimate failed model. There is a question though: how do you manage the water dropping in the cold side of peltier?
@scottmeuchel4 жыл бұрын

For spoilers: The water in the tubing absorbs the heat from the peltier through the water block, then that water flows to the radiator, where the heat is dissipated with the fans there. The now cool water flows back to the water block where the process repeats over and over. Then the other side of the peltier cools down the heatsink inside, where the cold air produced is blown out by the fans inside the box...

Only issue is that over time a peltier’s cold side is always in ratio to the hot side... So when you start it up the hot side is at room temp and the cold side is half (thus cooling the air). But as it runs the hot side eventually reaches high temp, and if the hot side is releasing 100° of heat your “cold” side will eventually be producing 50°, which will heat your room instead. Pumping water to cool the hot side will slow the heating but not stop it. Also on a hot sunny day the radiator in the window isn’t going to cool the water much, not nearly enough to negate the peltier’s heating
@arabcampers95542 жыл бұрын
The only way to get around this issue is the by using heat sink and half of assembly unit need to be stick outside the wall and the colder side sticks inside just like traditional Wall A/C unit .

I did not see vents for the fans to draw room air into the chamber. If you don't allow air to flow in then you won't get much out either. Think of like like putting a trash can full of water around the prop on a boat motor. It'll move water, but the water in the can won't leave the can leaving watever body of water your in virtually undisturbed. Cut some vents and add two or three more pelts, it'll work a lot better.
