Yeahh... not bad. But Just a tip: there's a huge difference in between the concept of "Filmmaker" and "Videographer". Making videos, doesn't means you are a filmmaker. Making films is such different than making regular videos... but definitely making videos every day keep you on training. Just remember Matti, Films is totally another world... bigger team to organized, harder work to do, and stronger difficult to get involved into the industry. Hugs !!

Tobias Lorenzi That's the point he's making… Quit seeing individual clients as the be-all-end-all. There are way more opportunities besides random calls… Stock photos/footage, producing educational content, applying for salary positions with companies (definitely goes against the “be your own boss” “entrepreneurship” fantasy people cling to these days)… It's a solid video that addresses exactly the scenario you're venting about.

This really helped. I just started the process of registering my Trademark here in the US, and I've signed up as a contributor on stock footage sites. Thank you for the advice, man. After quarantine hit, I lost my job; I would find a new one, but I'm moving out of town in just over a month and so no one is willing to hire me. I'm using this as an opportunity to start making a living as both a musician/composer and filmmaker. Thank you again for the advice.

I think u got it right dude. You need to definitely understand business in order to be your most creative. The primary reason we have struggle/starving artists is because they don’t know how to market themselves. Something I read that changed my outlook on money was that in order to be truly free to do what you love you need to detach money from time. Meaning, even if you’re trading your time to make money doing the thing you love, you are still a slave to it and can never truly do it in the way you want. However if you made money regardless of the hours you put in (IE: investing, passive income, etc) then you truly free to pickup and put down your passion whenever u desire.

My girlfriend/partner and I worked on our first real brand, FILTHLAMB, last year with both a merch line and a KZbin Channel. Even though I have somewhat of a fanbase from my music videos and photography, it didn't really translate to a following here on YT. A year in, and dozens of videos later, and we're still only at 79 followers. haven't quite figured out how to break into a larger following yet. But this video is full of tons of great advice, and we absolutely plan to keep plugging away! Just found your Channel through Peter McKinnon's and you've definitely got a new fan!

These are great tips. One thing I would add, which you touched on a bit, is to leverage your talents. I have played guitar and bass for 18 years and I decided to create sound fx packs using midi synth, guitar, bass and foley. I will be releasing my first pack soon and being able to combine two of my passions, music and film, has been great and will hopefully be a great resource for filmmakers. Some tips on marketing digital products would be great. The toughest part is to reach your audience.

This just popped up on my feed and thought I'd check it out since I just posted a video on "making money with videos" - from the point of view of someone who's not necessarily a film maker - but more of a content creator; and you're so right in terms of the digital landscape and how it's positively impacted the creative space. There's a lot of work available at all different skill levels, and I think it's so handy when practitioners / content creators make videos like this especially for those who may not know anyone in their circle whose doing it! The representation makes it so much more possible for anyone just getting started, and also provides an awesome example for the lifestyle attached to this way of making mulah :)

Matti... your videos are always helpful and your effort to help is also supportive. Thank you! This video though just didn't fit... it seemed to maybe have a place when a person is in a state of survival? But, all I can say from all my years of freelancing, that if you don't keep a tight focus - life's constant tornado will wipe you out. Focus and intense focus, which often comes due to pain - creates good results.
