Its not easy starting out. When I started on Upwork, I knew that I would not get big projects until I have something on my profile. So, I would sort the projects by no of proposals already submitted to the project and then offer things like demo project without payment, unlimited revisions until perfect results and 50% off on the project budget. I landed my first small gig by sending him the solution within the proposal and told him that I had completed the work already and you can test it before hiring. So yeah, get desperate for the first 2 gigs, after that you can relax some of the things I mentioned above.
