I think if you have beautiful pieces of plates etc. you should pull them out of the cupboard and use them everyday with family and friends, life is to short, make everyday a blessing.

Thanks Ruth...yes life is short ...been my motto since I was a kid..was my fathers motto too! I do you some of what I collect and have pieces in each and every room in my home. xo

That’s exactly what I’ve been doing . For years it’s all been in a china cabinet and never used and I finally realized how silly it was to not use it . I pulled my set of Alfred Meakin china out and started using it daily . I brought out my tea set from Poland and started using it . I’ve enjoyed it so much . Everything tastes better and looks prettier served on fine china .

I have three sets of "good" china. I alternate them for the seasons throughout the year. Life is TOO short! And why have it if it's never used?!?! I've never understood that.

Do a quick lead test on items used for food or beverage. I get lead test kits at the hardware store. Lots of older dinnerware has dangerous amounts of lead. Toss those items! Or only use as display. Don't sell or donate, passing possible harm along...

Oh wow! Very cool-I just bought a two tiered server in the Friendly Village pattern by Johnson Brothers yesterday at a thrift store.They had soooo much fine china in so many sets of patterns that I’m making a special trip back to buy up everything today. Incredible what you can find in thrift stores!

Replacements dot com is the highest prices to comp. Most people on Ebay and Etsy will not pay those prices so you can't expect to sell for those prices. I do use Replacements dot com to identify patterns but not reference prices I can expect to get when I sell on Ebay or Etsy. Great collection you have acquired and awesome prices, thank you for sharing.

Really enjoy your channel.. I do the same thing you do... I even find things in trash or on side of the road marked free... My house is a museum.... I never pay more than 5 for any larger single item.. And usually 3 bux for cups n saucers mismatched sets of dinner china usually abot 5 to 7 depending what it is and how many pieces bundled for set. Hit the thrifts whenever so sometimes will be a 50% off day on the goodies! Last summer antique dealers behind me loved out of state... Had a 4 day sale in driveway... Then i saw them setting boxes to curb marked FREE... I cant even tell you the unbelievable things i got... They sold most high end... And had to be out next day moving out of state... I got 8 boxes and bins of china... They told me... Please take it! Give it a good home! I had shopped the sale earlier... And had buyers regret on a few items i passed over.... By the end of the day i ended up with those items and many more... ❤was a once in a lifetime score!

I have bins of china and a china cabinet full doing what you do on prices paid! I look for the most expensive for resale value in the future as well as what I like. Most of my sets are Limoges of 100 years old or older....handpainted as well as transferware. I tend to pick up the whitest china as it is worth the most by porcelain quality. I also have very old Bavarian, and Russian etc. However I do love the Johnsonville patterns for me personally. I know at some point I will have to pare down but made sure I bought them just like you did at extremely low cost! I serve on mine any time a friend comes by or any holidays...sometimes just for a nice dinner.I tend to stick to thrift stores if I really feel the need to get more...LOL I have children that I know want specific sets....the rest....well someday I will sell them but will not donate them. I donate all kinds of clothes and belongings...

the floral plates made in Staffordshire are my favorite too. I also sell dishes on ebay. The market dictates the price that is a fraction of what Replacements asks. That's probably why they only have a 5% sell through rate. The Johnson Bros are lovely and a popular pattern. The market is usually saturated but a set of square bowls sold and shipped this morning. Unfortunately, I have bad news. The "England 1883" stamp is made in China. The most valuable stamp is brown and says "Made in England"
@thrifting101...identifybuy37 жыл бұрын
ohh thank you.....I have sold almost all of the Johnson Bros. already..I wait if someone is "giving" them away on Ebay ..you are totally correct about that...Thanks for the info on the "stamps"...!!! Better valuation is sold ebay listings. Look made in USA, England, and Europe dinnerware. Japanese Mikasa is OK. Finding great deals is not the problem. Packaging and shipping is the problem. Finding boxes and packing materials is a challenge. My latest finds are Vernonware Homespun and Lotus Metlox, both made in USA. M.A. Hadley are good sellers. My English finds are Botanical Garden Portneirion and several Johnson Brothers patterns. Some European are good such as Villeroy and Block.

We used to have a good collection of my great grandmother's ruby glass dishes. Funny story about it is that she would buy it at the little dime store in the summer cottage town. They were precious to us, but to her they were just a pretty thing to collect and use at the cabin. They were thought so cheap and replaceable that she had them displayed in a not so safe area and many were lost over the years. Then most of the rest were stolen later. I have a cup and saucer that I keep rose leaves in. Really enjoyed your show.

Replacements seldom pays more than 20 per cent of what they sell a piece for. If the pattern is not that popular and they have few names in their files looking for a pattern, they pay as little as 5 per cent and you have to either send it to them or take it to them. Not worth trying to sell to Replacements.

You called your video "How to make money buying...at Goodwill." All you showed was how to obtain values. You never showed how to make money, where you listed them, or whether you sold them at Replacements prices. I'm disappointed. If like to know how best to sell the china I bought at Goodwill. I already know how to value them. And Replacements prices tend to run high, so do you price then for a bit less? And on what platform do you sell them?

So I'm curious...seeing what they are listed for on the replacement site doesn't guarantee that you would be able to sell them. Do you sell most of what you buy? Have you bought anything that you thought was a suer sale and it didn't sell?
@thrifting101...identifybuy36 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan..thanks for watching and commenting. I never said that was a guarantee..what I did say was "this is what replacements.com is charging and this I what you can expect to get on Ebay"..two very, very different things. I have sold most of what I listed, sometimes it takes waiting for the right buyer and will take awhile. Yes, I am still trying to sell the GUMP BOTAN bowls, which I believe are beautiful and I have dropped the price a few times so yes, I thought those would sell pretty quickly. I have learned a lot since that video was uploaded but I did make a lot of money and hope I helped educate a few people who might be interested in reselling china. Michelle

I was just curious. I wasn't trying to imply anything. I actually sell vintage cameras and photographic ephemera on Etsy and I have taken some chances in thrift shops. I look up "sold" listings on ebay, but that never guarantees a sale for me...so I'm learning also. I found a fun way to sell some cameras and I basically sell them as a "mystery vintage camera". People tell me a bit about the recipient and I match a camera to them for a gift. But I do have a drawer full of photographic items that have been just sitting and I took a chance on them so I was curious if you were successful.

It's amazing what a person can find at a thrift shop, such as Goodwill. I have some Wedgwood teacups in the Powdered Ruby Ulander pattern (as shown in the link that follows.) I never had the saucers, for some reason. One day when I was at Goodwill, what did I find, but some Aynsley bone china saucers in the identical colour of the Wedgwood cups. The only difference was that the Aynsley saucers were a solid shade, compared to the "powdered" (speckled) Wedgwood cups, but they complement each other beautifully. And the saucers were all of $1.00 each!! How incredible is that? I never thought I would find saucers to match because the shade is very unusual. www.chinamatchers.co.uk/Wedgwood-Ulander-Powder-Ruby-Soup-Cup-Saucer-Set_ABG9S.aspx

Another great buy that I got at Goodwill was a brand new Staub cast iron 5-quart pot. I had seen it in the shops and it was $425.00. It's pumpkin shaped (and the colour of a pumpkin, too.) I saw it on the bottom shelf at Goodwill, with the original stickers still on it. $19.00!! Also, books can be a good find. I was collecting the 1980s Time-Life series, "The Good Cook", and I once found eight of them in one shop, only $2 each. You've done well to find so many china treasures. Keep up the good work!

I have been selling Friendly Village for years, and you are correct. The older made in England have a brown or black mailbox in the back. Also the dinner plates are not The Covered Bridge. They are The Old Church. I had a gorgeous mint condition 125 pc. set that I put together off of E bay once. Sadly I had to sell it because I lost my job. :( I love Friendly Village, and still sell it on E Bay.

Thomas Mercado I would like to sell dinnerware on ebay. I have been watching your videos since late April and have gone back to watch all you vids. Thanks for the info. Does china that has small scratches, not the grey marks, sell? In your videos you mention the dishes are in mint condition. I have not found any dishes that do not at least have the small scratches on the glaze...at least that's what I think is scratched.
@thrifting101...identifybuy36 жыл бұрын
It depends on how in demand the pieces are...sometimes they sell well maybe a smaller price then those in mint condition. The marks under the glaze sell better though,,,try magic eraser or bar keepers friend to get rid of those gray marks! xo

How is the used China dinnerware market? I know some brands are hot and some are not. Lenox

Show us how to sell, pack and ship pricing, etc. Thanks
@thrifting101...identifybuy35 жыл бұрын
I did a packing video awhile back....:) xo
@thrifting101...identifybuy35 жыл бұрын
Pricing if its a very fragile item I always do flate rate shipping boxes as you can pack the heck out of them for 1 flate price, otherwise I have a scale which I weigh myself on and then with the boxed item, then do it all again to make sure I have the correct shipping weight. I usually add a lb to that weight to include the packing materials. If the cost of shipping is less than $1 given for shipping I refund it :)

@lisachristopher46727 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. You made a comment, that you can't get the prices they get on replacement.com. So, what type of pricing can one expect to get? Thank you. :)
@thrifting101...identifybuy37 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa...thanks for watching and commenting. The price I aim for... and you really have to judge by the "going" rate on Ebay/Esty, etc..... is at a bare minimum 3xs what I pay.,,,.you really have to know what to look for.....but if you buy good English/German/Japanese etc bone china for a song you can expect to turn a good profit, or atleast I do. I generally make 75 to 100%or more on pieces I pick up for a dollar or so. The good thing about charity thrift stores and goodwill, is that they really don't do much research on bone china like they do on milk glass or pottery! I pick up bone china tea cup sets when I can find them for a dollar or two a set and when I get 5 sets I list them on Ebay as a lot of 5 sets and have no problem getting atleast $50!!!
@rozebradshaw1577 жыл бұрын
How much on average do you pay to ship these? Like the cups? I've seen nice China in goodwill, just was hesitant because of how to ship and the cost of shipping.
@thrifting101...identifybuy37 жыл бұрын
Hi Roze......I always ship glass or fragile items in a large or med. flate rate box...This way I can pack them to the hilt for one price. Make sure nothing rattles or moves when box is taped...key to safe delivery :) Michelle

Oh incase you didn't know...you can go to post office and the boxes are free!!

How do you sell the china and make money? Missed that part, your voice gets lost and my volume is all the way up. Replacements offers us sellers about a quarter of what they retail sell for, is that where you sell to? Thanks, your pieces are beautiful.
@thrifting101...identifybuy34 жыл бұрын
Thanks Patti..I think you will find voice quality gets better in future videos. I sell on Ebay but dont try to sell as much china dinnerware anymore as price has been dropping so I have have become more aware of what sells 😊❤
@daviddub5 жыл бұрын
Question, you're telling us how much replacement's sells them for, but surely they are making some profit, and there is shipping. What sort of money are you expecting to make on these various sets? Help me understand. I am looking to possibly do the same thing with fine china and replacements and others.
@thrifting101...identifybuy35 жыл бұрын
In the video I state what replacements charges and I also state what I hope to make. You cant even come close to what they ask! I use that only as a reference. Prices online constantly change as to what someone is asking at the time you are ready to list...:) xo

I have a set of owens-brockway 24k gold trim fine china. It placement of 4 . I’ve had it for right at 20 years and not once have use it. Excellent condition. What would value be please or estimate maybe? A guess? I’m clueless as to how to value them. I’ve did research and can’t find them for sale anywhere online. Any help would help? Or any history ? Thanks to anyone that can help me
@turntablesrockmyworld93152 жыл бұрын
I have only seen this brand occasionally and it wasn't selling for much. It is not in demand because not many would know about it. I am guess yours is mid-1990s. PRobably best to try and sell on Marketplace but unless you are willing to piecemeal and mail, you might not sell it.

Depends on how many pieces I have. Its hard to ship out large amounts of glass...costs a lot in package material and I pack the hell out of things! So If I can break up a set and make more money I do that...It all depends...Sometimes I will just sell one piece but list that I have say 6 available. :)
