Out of curiosity, what do you guys consider on your end to be worth charging as much as you do? Genuinely curious, not trying to be rude or anything, it’s just interesting that you would buy a couch for $12, only rip off a skirt, and then charge upwards of 100 or so. I know that you had to take it to the buyer, but still, just wondering. Do you charge based off of labor, like is it really hard to rip the skirt off? I love those chairs though, and I wish you could’ve kept them because they were gorgeous!
@JAMIEANDSARAH4 жыл бұрын
Great question! What we charge is largely dependent on what similar items are selling for on marketplace. We spend time browsing and watching other items to see how long they are on Marketplace and how much they sell for. The $12 couch was a no brainer for us because any couch that is clean and in decent shape in our area sells for at least $100. We new there was money to be made as soon as we saw the price tag. Hope this answers your question! Oh, and yes we miss those chairs! 😅
@DanLimbach4 жыл бұрын
It takes a good eye to find stuff that is worth more than thrift store prices with a little effort. No different than having an eye for valuable items at an estate sale. Old coins, maps, lamps, signs, art, desks, etc. that were under-valued by the seller. The sellers do not have any idea what some things can sell for with a little ingenuity, so the flippers look for those things, put in the effort, and are rewarded for their expertise. Look at the couch flip this way. The thrift store sold a $130-potential couch for $12. The flippers dragged it home, made a key modification that improved the look dramatically, listed it online, and delivered it to the customer, and received $130. More work than you think when you add it all up. Much better than flipping burgers for minimum wage, though.
@JAMIEANDSARAH4 жыл бұрын

@JAMIEANDSARAH4 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric! We usually do “porch pickup” which is where we leave the item on the porch and they leave money under the doormat when they take the item. Most people prefer that so they don’t have to talk to anyone😂 larger items(couches) are picked up from our garage, but that involves talking to people. We’ve only done delivery that one time because she paid us extra. Hope this helps!

Love this! What products do you use to clean your furniture?
@JAMIEANDSARAH4 жыл бұрын
Great question! We try to buy furniture that doesn't need a deep cleaning as it can be a huge time waster. But if we do use cleaner, we try to just use a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water and blot it with paper towel. Sometimes cleaners can make stains worse or make the fabric appear blotchy. Hope this helps! Good luck!😀
@MarketAndChurch4 жыл бұрын
I was wondering how long it usually takes for you to sell an item? Do you drop prices after a week of listing it online? Does it take you longer to sell more expensive furniture? Most of my furniture will be between $100-$500 and I don't know if cheaper furniture sells faster. Also, not to rub it in, but I would have kept those chairs, but knowing your eye for finding good stuff, it'll only be a matter of time before you find something better. Can't wait to see what you find next :)
@JAMIEANDSARAH4 жыл бұрын
We usually sell our items within 3 days of listing them. If we haven't sold them, we usually do a price drop. I think cheaper furniture does sell faster. Most of the items we have sold have been under $200. The more expensive ones do take a bit longer so be patient! Stuff sells faster on weekends, too. Hope this helps! 😁

Thanks for the videos! I’m getting into flipping as a side hustle. Where do you sell your flips, or what gets the most attention? Marketplace, Craigslist, etc?
@aprilbehnke96114 жыл бұрын
This is really inspiring! I’ve never thought about flipping furniture simply because we don’t have a car. When you think about pricing do you also factor that in (as well as your time/labor) or are you only considering the market?
@JAMIEANDSARAH4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the positive feedback! We appreciate the encouragement! 😀When it comes to pricing, we usually have a number in mind before we list or even buy the item. We want to make sure it will be worth our time, but we don't have a specific number. It mostly depends on what similar items are selling for. This is just a hobby for us so we do it mostly for fun! If we were trying to make a living from it we would probably set specific guidelines to make sure we were making enough hourly. It does take a significant amount of effort messaging people to try to sell items! Hope this helps!!!

Removing the skirts leaves a color variation (lack of exposure of the fabric underneath) and a line from where the staples had been. How do you fix that? Thanks for all you do!

We have noticed that this does happen from time to time. We have ended up just leaving it and have never had any trouble selling. It still looks better than the before! How bad is it?
@carmicha3 жыл бұрын
@@JAMIEANDSARAH I think it's fine on the chairs because the skirts are attached so low on the body and so the difference is a thin line. Using the skirt fabric to make a rolled trim over it is definitely too much work and would wreck the MCM lines. It was the couch where the color variation really stood out to me. Maybe brushing the nap strategically would camouflage the staple holes and reduce how the color shift it reads in photos, since the light would then strike it more uniformly? Thanks for responding to my question; I enjoy your channel!
@sandeeg453 жыл бұрын
I'm curious when you pull off the skirt how do you fix where the skirt was attached? I can see in the picture that there is discoloration and the holes where the staples are at. I find it hard to believe that people will buy furniture with them being like that.

Hi Patrick! Great question. We've only delivered furniture once. And we knew she really loved it beforehand. We don't plan on doing this often. It mostly works out great for both them and us. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
@Fedproman4 жыл бұрын
Obviously the key to this is what you pay, in other words you make your money when you buy the item. I live in NE Florida and there is not a thrift store anywhere in this area that would sell a couch like that for $12. It would not be under $100 even at Goodwill or Salvation Army.
@JAMIEANDSARAH4 жыл бұрын
I get it...And I totally agree that it is all about the buy(as most flipping is). That being said, I wouldn’t dismiss the idea that you can find great deals. We thought the couch was a “unicorn” find but it seems that we’ve continued to find undervalued furniture, even on FB marketplace. We’ve had pretty good luck with rural thrift stores. Sell them in the city for profit 👍
