Here's a tip: in the Layer settings, Advanced tab, turn on Flood Fill. It will nearly cut your burn time in half with the same results. Edit: in some cases it will have no effect or even longer times but most of the time it will be faster. Try it both ways and check the times before you burn.

Ok question. Just to see how it would look I tried the same exact patent picture and tried to trace the image in Lightburn. Mine looks nothing like yours does. Instead of a good image/trace you get a "image" filled with bubbles in the shape of a gun. I am basically getting a REALLY bad line drawing that is not filled in like yours is on your screen at minute11:03. I have it set to fill and everything else. Its like there is a setting for tracing an image and having it filled on screen that some of us do not have enabled, if that makes sense. If you like I can provide you a image of it. let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks in advance with any help.

What do you mean by "an associated copyright attached"? Do you have an example of one that could not be used?
@3DPrintFarm3 жыл бұрын
Usually within the patent itself there paperwork that identifies an attached copyright. 99.9% of them won't. There are LOTS of good drawings out there.

i like the idea of laser bruining images on canvas like this but what settings would be appropriate to make sure you only burn the paint off the canvas and not burn the canvas. I have a 60watt co2 laser.
@davey2k123 жыл бұрын
Lmfao 🤣🤣🤣 why didn't you just use a plasma cutter 😁😁 try 1% power lol
@3DPrintFarm3 жыл бұрын
Great question! I would run the test file from the "Edge of Tech". 60watt is going to be pretty fast and low power. I would get a test canvas. One coat of paint.. make some squares in LightBurn.. Make the layers different speeds and power.. Compare results.
@3DPrintFarm3 жыл бұрын
Good Grief!! A Plasma cutter! Now that would be a sight to see! I would imagine it would just vaporize the canvas to ash at ANY power!

I can’t seem to get the color filled in when it is traced? It just shows it as everything is outlined
@archerj20102 жыл бұрын
You likely have it answered, but vector files (SVGs) don't display as filled shapes - they're lines that the laser will cut/etch out. If it's told to fill, it will fill everything within those lines.

I'm not sure what I am doing g wrong I followed all your steps and settings and my svg looks like crap after the trace. And help would be appreciated. Yours showes nice black lines mine is white in all of those spots like something is reversed.
@3dPrintCreator3 жыл бұрын
I don't know what I do wrong here, but if I follow your steps, even with the exact same image, I get a whole lot of traced outlines, but not an image that looks like your image. For example a letter F, in the name Foster, is the outline of the letter F and not the letter. I looked at every setting in your video, every number, comma, etc is the same as what I do. Drives me crazy.
@nathanpotter85693 жыл бұрын
@3dprintcreator do you have a single line font for lasers yet? I had a different project and learned I needed to have a single line font to not have the outlines as if your cutting out the letters.
@3DPrintFarm3 жыл бұрын
On the upper right in LightBurn, there’s a section for your layers. Double click on the layer your image is In and make sure the drop down in the layer is set to Fill and not Line.
@revtoyota3 жыл бұрын
Same here. The trace does not come out as clear as 3DPrintFarms does. His is pre filled on the screen where ours is line drawing on the screen. At least for me that is what is going on.
@3dPrintCreator3 жыл бұрын
@Nathan Potter, Yes I have single line fonts installed, but here we are talking about traces, not about fonts. @3DPrintFarm I don't think we are talking about the same. I have fill turned on, yet my drawing consists of more than 1000 small blocks, that when I ungroup them, are all separate. Your tracing looks more like a few pieces, not hundreds. @Ak Sasquatch, no I am not talking about the fill, that's a thing you can select in the layers tab. Also in the settings you can turn on filled rendering. Yet, that's not the problem I encounter.
@AG-lj5oh3 жыл бұрын
I had the same problem when tracing it only did outline. There is a comment above that worked for me. Go to Edit select Settings and turn on Filled Rendering. In the layers also make sure it is on Fill and not Line.
@3DJapan3 жыл бұрын
11:15 I notice all of your thick lines come out as filled. When I trace it just does the outside of all the lines. So instead of one thick line I get 2 thin lines on the outside edge. Edit: I see now. You have to have Filled Rendering selected in the settings but also have Fill selected on the layer.

@raphyndavid70703 жыл бұрын
Great video!! thanks for the information. Just out of curiosity, how much would you sell something like that for?
@3DPrintFarm3 жыл бұрын
That's a great question! A lot of that depends on the cost of materials, the time it took converting, engraving etc. For this particular project I had a little over a dollar in materials. (The canvas and what little spray paint I used). Many laser shops will charge by the square inch factoring in cost, time and materials. This is the easiest way to do this IMHO... So.. to answer your question, for this canvas which is 11x14, would be 154 square inches. Charging .25 for sq/in would be $38.50 or roughly $40. Finding that sweet spot per square inch, you can pretty much quote any job. I would, however, set a minimum so for instance someone wanted a small canvas, priced out per sq inch would be too little, therefore pull up your minimum to $10-$15.. Just a ballpark estimate.

New subscriber and specifically interested in laser burning. A quick question. If you painted a piece of glass, MIRRORED the image and then burned it, the glass could be framed but the image is actually now on the back of the glass and protected from dust, etc. Am I thinking correctly about this option?

@@3DPrintFarm Thanks for the reply. I have also seen others use a borax mixture (1 borax to ten water or so) when they burn on wood to get a deeper burn at lower wattage. It seems to work great for detail. Not sure if it would work for canvas. You might want to try the borax mix on some wood yourself to try. I can't wait to get a laser myself. Hopefully in a month or two.

Can you engrave an actual firearm
@3DPrintFarm3 жыл бұрын
Firearm engraving is done quite a bit with a fiber laser and I plan on covering that in a future video. You can do some limited engraving with a diode laser like the Ortur, but not without doing some extra steps. If interested in engraving firearms, the fiber laser is the way to go. Much less headaches. Plus it's another tool in your laser arsenal. I use CO2 lasers for cutting wood, engraving and cutting things like acrylic, fiber I use for marking, annealing and engraving metal and the diode laser is a great place to get your feet wet plus do some cool things with engraving tiles, thinner wood items.. limited metal engraving (anodized aluminum) etc.
