Myrrh Essential Oil (8 Drops)
Frankincense Essential Oil (8 Drops)
Cedarwood Texas Essential Oil (4 Drops)
Pink Pepper Essential Oil (2 Drops)
Rose Absolute (2 Drops) Doesn't need to be Bulgarian Rose
Vanilla Absolute (4 Drops) Can be replaced with Vanillin if you want
^ Above formula makes 10ml of finished perfume
To make 50ml perfume
40ml alcohol
25 Drops Labdanum
40 Drops Myrrh
40 Drops Frankincense
20 Drops Cedarwood
10 Drops Pink Pepper
10 Drops Rose Absolute

@FragranceView ok, I don't know what all goes into creating an extract and was wondering what the process was. I was curious also regarding making a coffee extract. Also I wanted to check into it because I have purchased some raw materials that I didn't feel accurately represented the scent profiles of Cognac and Rum. Are there any particular raw materials you can refer to me that perform well and smell like Cognac, Whiskey, and/or Rum?

Thanks, this is very informative!! I already have some experience with making alcohol or oil based scents at home, but still got a lot to learn. I'm really interested in making home made natural perfume in a professional way and start a small business to sell it once I know exactly what I'm doing. But I find it hard to know where to start. I want to know what ingredients I should use to make the best longlasting natural perfume and that it's actually good quality, completely safe and doesn't seem too crafty. Do you have any tips for this or perhaps know where I can find actual good information on how to start something like this?

When creating cologne what is a good method of percentages for top, mid, and base note. I see a lot of different methods. Which do you use a lot? Also when adding Hedione to fragrance I’ve see it says you can put up to 65% of formula. So if you are doing 20% fragrance and 80% alcohol for instance, does this mean you can add Hedione at 65% of the 20% fragrance or of the combination of alcohol and fragrance?
@FragranceView
@FragranceView 24 күн бұрын
I don't limit myself to any method, I go on intuition and feeling.. and it changes every time depending on what you want to create, and what the notes are.. I never found putting myself in a box of %'s helped me personally. - in that instance it means 65% of the 20% - if it was % of the final product ( it would be much lower number )

@FragranceView
@FragranceView Жыл бұрын
amber is not an essential oil, but an accord, a combination of oils together.. typically a basic amber accord is Labdanum combined with Vanillin, which is a powder. Though you can make it more complex with adding other resins like benzoin, myrrh etc.

How could I Dil the essential oil and mix it with ethanol before making the formula and how to calculate the percentage of the perfume ?
@FragranceView
@FragranceView Жыл бұрын
To dilute a material accurately you need a scale, and then work out the maths based on the amount of weight you want to dilute. - To work out the concentration of the formula accurately also requires measurements with the scale, combing the total weight in oil, and then working out the weight of alcohol. It's just maths.

Hey Peter, Thank you for making these videos. I’ve recently finished my fifth perfume experiment and I feel like they just keep getting better, although all of them have been pretty and wearable so far. In your experience, does the order in which you add the drops in a perfume composition affect the final scent a lot? I’ve heard that it’s wise to start with base notes first, and I recently read that for reproducing the same result you should write down the order in which you added the notes. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Take care, Mina
@FragranceView
@FragranceView Жыл бұрын
Hey Mina, for my own personal way, I do tend to blend base notes first, and work up.. mainly for the reason that I want to know how it smells at each stage as it builds up, to get the balance. I don't personally believe that the actual scent will change depending if you added the base first, or the top first.. if it's the same formula, and you make it with the same amounts, you can add it in any which way and the end product will be the same, in my opinion.. Unless there's something in the formula that can react with something in particular.

Don't use them if you're diluting in alcohol, the alcohol makes them super volatile and they just want to escape..

Quick question please! If the formula is 36 drops to 8ml of alcohol (yielding 10ml of perfume) what do you do when you dont want to be capped at 36 drops? In other words, say you want to make a more complex fragrance with over 10 different notes? Being capped at 36 drops.. what if an extra few drops of certain materials yields a smell you want etc ?.. because being capped using this method means you have a maximum of 36 drops to play with, doesent this cap and limit the creative process
@FragranceView
@FragranceView Жыл бұрын
it's a basic guide line.. feel free to add more drops, just bare in mind, the more drops you go over.. the more concentrated the perfume.. simply just add a little more alcohol, problem solved.

the term fragrance oil is sometimes used to sale very cheaply made synthetic accords, some fragrance oils can be things like "Tutti Fruity" or "Orchid" (which there is no natural variety of oil) and they vaguely attempt to mimic something.. these are really meant for room diffusers, not perfume. - Sometimes fragrance oil can mean a genuine aroma chemical or synthetic, basically don't use 'fragrance oils' use either naturals or synthetics, synthetics are designed by brands like IFF, Firmenich, Guivadan etc to be used in perfume making.

i asked fragranceview similar favors, to tell me how to make this or that smell. however, it would actually be cool for compleete beginners that dont even know if they wanna do a bit of mixing , to be told what one can do. Naming Mixtures and then describing what kind of experiences one gets. Not that i think its really possible to describe in words, haha- the only difficulty for a beginner is that he wants to explore own combinations, but in order to freely explore he feels like: oh i need now 100s of Compounds .. expensive- anyway- Orange essenz is quiet nice to use, and combine with flowers.?

How many essences or molecules must a complete perfume have? I've read that some formulas have more than 30 elements. Thx

no.. you can make a perfume with as little as one material, you can make a perfume with 3 or 4 materials.. you don't have to add a certain number, it depends on what you want to achieve.

I am so happy and excited to see you doing perfumery content again. I’m going to blend this accord later tonight. I’m pretty sure I’ve never done an all natural incense accord. I actually really struggle with all natural compositions in it. My mother wants me to make her a all natural fragrance, and I think this could be a good place to start.

Using the mandy aftel method, it is quite strong, I'd suggest diluting it further with more alcohol if it's for your mother!

How did you come up with how many drops in your formula? Base is 63 and middle and top are 18%

How do you dilute an oil to 1% in alcohol?. Do you have a video?

This video format follows the same structure laid out by Mandy Aftel in her books, in this instance I paid no attention to top / mid / base, I just went by my own experience in blending this particular style of perfume. - to dilute a material like birch tar to 1% requires buying a scale and doing the maths in weight

Thanks for all of your great videos! Just wondering if you have found bottles with eye droppers that hold the fragrance / don’t evaporate or if you have any tips on this? I really like to idea of having diluted materials in a bottle with dropper, but am finding they do evaporate and I can smell scent through rubber dropper top. Would the alcohol contribute to this more? And would storing only the raw material (without alcohol) help ?

the dropper bottles don't work if you put anything with alcohol content in, so anything diluted.. will just evaporate out, pure oils are fine..
