And like he mentioned, most of it is synthetic aroma chemicals and not essential oils of various plant parts that's usually mentioned in the notes section. I wanted to make natural perfumes using essential oils but coming to know that there are thousands of synthetics has put a dampener of the spirits. Apparently, there are huge labs that churn out thousands of aroma chemicals specifically for these designer houses which may not be known to even the enthusiast perfumers, in a way making them trade secrets.

Thanks for your info…last year suddenly saw a video on KZbin on how to create perfume at home, I wanted to create perfume myself with my favourite scents. I purchased the basic materials which I needed to create a perfume and my favourite essential oils and fixatives, definitely which is not cheap at all. I researched deeply first because I felt quite interesting and I didn't want to waste my investment. The main goal of making perfume was long-lasting because I have used lots of expensive perfumes but it lasted hardly. When I made it first, it smelled good and was different from regular perfume. I gave it to my friends and relatives, everybody loved it especially my daughter is crazy about perfume because she lives in Dubai and you all know Dubai is famous for one thing, it's perfume. Even my daughter asked me to make another because it lasts more than the expensive one. So, Guys if you are creative, and enjoy creating things of your own then definitely go for it, you will love it.

I've always dreamed of doing this, and at 35 yrs old I'm not sure what's been stopping me. I have so many scents in my head. Like some people can envision the visual and auditory arts, I 'envision' fragrances. The biggest downside to this is that I'm disappointed more so than not with fragrances. After things get back to normal in the US, I'm giving this a real shot. Thanks, Peter. 💙

Then this week the idea struck me that I could consider making my own fragrances, for myself and my loved ones, as a hobby. And although I watched hundreds of videos from fragrance reviewers, perfumers, in the pas few years, the first person that came to mind to check whether I could teach myself how to make fragrances was...you. And once again, I am glad I watched your video as reference. So many thanks for this perfect intro. Cheers!

UNDER the name " Mousse de Chene" an extract of various lichens growing on oak and other trees has been placed upon the market, and is of the greatest value in perfumery. The principal plants yielding this extract are Evernia furfuracea, Evernia prunastri and Ramalina calicaris and numerous varieties of the latter. Various types of U$nea, Alectoria, and Parmelia also yield a similar extract in less quantity and of poorer odour. If the plants are extracted by means of a volatile solvent, and the extract is steam distilled, a colourless essential oil is obtained, which has an intense odour and, according to Gattefosse,1 consists almost entirely of a phenol which he has termed lichenol. On standing the lichenol crystallises out, and when pure melts at 72° to 73°. Gattefosse originally considered this phenol to be identical with carvacrol, but now (in a private communication to the author) considers that io is of lower molecular weight, and closely related to cetrarine, a phenol-ketone occurring in the oil from Cetraria islandica.

I just came here cause i suddenly had an Idea. It was once in early Spring, i was outside and felt so happy, like you do in spring. Years later i was talking with someone about something else , about visiting a small primeval forrest. While talking about this experience, i told him it wasnt thaat interesting, but tried to describe it still accurate, if its cool to walk in a primeval forrest. The best description i found was actually the smell.. It smelled a bit more calming, and balanced than a normal Forest. So, it dawned on me that smell can give you a very interesting emotion. I was thinking back on the walk in the spring, and it came to my mind that this one time when i walked in spring, it was still very early , cold, the flowers werent showing colors, so: i was wondering WHY i did already get that Springemotion so so strong. And i guess its the smell. I must have smelled the young sprouts , i must have instinctively smelled that "good times" are ahead, that must be inherited very strongly from our Ancestors. Anyway, so i think smell does give you very deep and accurate emotions
@erewrw1906

Lately i tried to capture this spring-smell trough making my own incense. I mixed : -chesnutwood -applewood -a flower tea-mix (springflowers) -and cinnamon Original idea would have used Cannabis, instead of Cinnamon, but i thought lets stay sober lol. So it rather became a summer smell. Made my own incense with this mixture and burnt it Had problems cause dried flowers can give a nasty burnt smell. (i think especially with high heat) But otherwise it was pretty spot on, i wanted it to be very faint, and i actually think i got this spring summer emotion. It nearly enhanced me, was good . Yep, thats my little excursion, my goal was to just give me a positive emotion, to have no downsides, i think many smells can make you feel dark easily, and it was quiet bright.. jeey.

Have you ever tried creating your own tinctures? I feel like an alcohol tincture would capture a more complex scent especially when it comes to some of the fancier perfumery components that typically rely on synthetic chemicals. For example using an alcohol ambergris tincture instead of just using ambroxan. Or creating a real oud wood tincture instead of just one singular aromatic synthetic compound thar is responsible for the oud woods distinct scent. You may even be able to use less components to create your perfume.

Textured, probably from the ground up insence stick. Use 98% of olive oil (or other carrier oils) and only 2% of pure steam distilled essential oils (sandalwood essential oil etc) and definitely not ground up stuff. That's not safe at all.

Been experimenting with things like, known base fixers; patchouli, vetiver plus using things like; iso e, ambrofix but nothing I try last longer than 30 mins, max one hour on the skin, then all I have left is a slightly modified base note or a musk. I use 20% materials 80% perfumers alcohol. Any top tips? Also any tips on a leather accord?

Even I'm a beginner, so I'm not sure as to why it's not lasting as long. But I believe labdanum was a leathery accord.

I don't know from where to start for thanking you. I am really grateful to you for the information shared with us. I am glad to having found you on KZbin and I hope you will share more products to avoid, products awarenings, accords ideas and products to use to make the perfumes more sophisticated like the ones in the perfumery and long lasting. You really have no idea how people like me, that have this just as a passion, will be thankful to you forever. Your way of explaining is simple and clear and you don't go around but instead directly to the point, something that I really appreciate. Thanks a lot from the bottom of the heart for your effort, care and love towards us. Good luck with whatever you will want to do in your life and I hope that you will have just good people around you.

I came back to get some info on some things you had said, and I read that You have Your very own Fragrance Brand/Line?! That is AMAZING!!! I am 51 years young, and I WILL make at least One Male fragrance...I never liked Women's frags since I was a kid, and I would ALWAYS get caught using my Pop's Aramis, Brut, Pino Sylvestre, and Polo Green! I blow my son's minds when they see my collection, and always want to use some or have a bottle...I had to lock them in a cabinet! I love the Blue Freshies, all the way to my new love, Oud/Middle Eastern scents! I would like to see your Fragrances, and maybe some tips on a fragrance I HAVE TO LEARN TO MAKE, and it is called Carven L'eau Intense, and MFK was one of the perfumers on this CLASSIC CITRUS, FRESH, AND MINTY BEAST OF A MASTERPIECE!!! Sorry for the caps, but that was my Pop's Favorite, and he passed away on my 15th Birthday. He earned a Purple Heart Medal for his service to my Country, and he had given me his last bottle before he passed...THAT is the main reason I have a Love for Fragrances, always will!.

Thanks for the informative video! I enjoyed watching the perfume take shape. Only thing that caused me anxiety was when you were dipping your plastic pipettes into the vials without holding on to the vials themselves. I know you were filming so the angle is awkward, but it reminded me of chemistry class where I knocked over so many of my bottles with my pipettes like that! :)

I was walking in London England one time some where near SOHO. And I smelled the most beautiful scent I have ever smelt. It was two older Indian ladies probably in their 50s. I ran up to them and asked them wjat their perfume was, they told me it was a family secret over 200 years old and only they had it. I was damn I could make billions off it. Even thou they were thirty years older then me I totally had to go talk to them because they smelled so amazing.

I love to experiment, trying my hand at creating fragrances or just testing how well materials smell together. My tools are the raw materials, 8ml vials, a .001 scale and .5ml plastic pipettes. I find the .5ml pipettes perfect for dealing with such small amounts. I've used 95% grain alcohol, but much prefer perfumer's alcohol. I feel the perfumer's version leaves a cleaner, more neutral smell, while the 95% left a slightly grainy after-smell. Nice refresh video Peter!
