How to Make Night Sky Videos: Time Lapse and Star Trails

Valentine Lake Recreation Area (Elmer, LA, USA) is a beautiful location with primitive camping, many trails and a small lake. I recently spent several days camping and relaxing next to the lake.
The night sky was particularly beautiful, so I set-up my GoPro HERO 4 Silver in the "Nightlapse" mode to take still pictures continually throughout each night. You can take similar pictures with many cameras or phones; it is not necessary to have a GoPro to make night sky videos. I processed the still pictures as videos in two different ways: 1) time-lapse videos, using GoPro Studio software and 2) star-trail videos, using Star Trails Photo Editor software for Mac OS X version 2.1.1 Final editing was done with Final Cut Pro X.

Shutter: 30 seconds
Megapixels: 12MP / Wide
Spot Meter: Off
Protune: On
Interval: Continuous
White Balance: 3000K
Color GooPro Color
ISO Min 100, Max 800
Sharpness: Medium
EV Compensation: N/A
SD Card: 32 Gb. Remove battery for all night camera operation; replace with external battery charger using cable connector.
The camera was positioned to face north all three nights. The first two nights were next to the lake; the third night was in the forest.
