I don't have sake. Can I use only mirin, soy sauce and dashi.
@Eskiwen6 жыл бұрын
I have no idea what we did before I found out how to make Oyakodon - it's my go to dish when I need to make something quick and I don't want to use a lot of pans. I use a modified recipe - I cook for my disabled mother, and she dislikes 'fishy' flavors, so I have to cut out the dashi and use chicken stock instead. No one in my area sells mirin, so that often has to go without too. I often like to add a little more vegetables to mine, especially some broccoli from the freezer. Super delicious and easy dish that's also full of stuff that's good for you, too! Thanks for the video!

If mirin is unavailable, white wine can be a good substitute :)

Tried this and we love it. I also recommend using chicken breast or even shredding the chicken. Since leftover chicken tends to taste dry when reheat it. We find shredding the chicken helps. Love the recipe and defiantly recommend it.

Add mushrooms and zucchini to this!! It's so good. I can't testify as to how they are when you add them with the onions, but when cooked in a tiny bit of sesame oil and a little soy sauce and added in at the end, its great. I cooked it on the side only because the people I live with hate those vegetables.

Hi, Nami! Thanks so much for sharing this recipe - it's simple and sooo delicious :-) I was wondering if you had any advice for keeping food warm to serve at the same time, since this recipe calls for cooking one serving at a time. Thank you in advance!
@justonecookbook7 жыл бұрын
Hi Sophie! Usually family has several oyakodon nabe (mentioned in my baked katsudon post and used in baked katsudon video) so you can cook at the same time. I also don't own another small pan like this so what I do is to use a big frying pan and divide up. It will look like pie shape when you divide... but it's not so noticeable when you put on the rice (especially if eggs are still somewhat runny but set). The eggs will cook further while you wait for the other one, so my recommendation is to use a 1-2 regular size frying pan and divide up.

Got it - thanks so much for your reply! I appreciate it ^^

Damn that looks good! Not a fan of onions but the rest of it looks soo nice. I often have eggs and chicken with noodles and it looks like a good idea to have it with rice!
@karmiya-plays5 жыл бұрын
I always hated onions, too, but one day I decided to try picking up a sweet onion from the grocery store. It was like magic- all the bitter taste that lasts in your mouth all day and makes your breath smell was just...gone. You might still hate it, but if you haven't tried them before, they might be worth a try. There are a lot of eggy dishes like this which require onion and just aren't quite right without any (I also find a quiche lorraine really needs some caramelised onion, for example).
