I thought you were telling how to make the cord, not how to cover the cord. It is confusing when you say that "all you need to make your own piping cord, is piping cord"

I don't know anyone who would make their own cord, and both are called piping cord. You need to attach it somehow to what your making, unless you just want raw cord hand sewn around the edge.
