I really admire the way you teach. You've got a good pace, you gave outside resources, and didn't get bogged down with complexities. I'm definitely subbing, and can't wait to see what else you've got for me.

@NickCasale10 жыл бұрын
Shading pixel art?
@NickCasale10 жыл бұрын
What I do to shade is make a new layer right above whatever layer has the thing I want to shade, let's say a character for example, then set this new layer above to be a clipping mask, then I select the color I want to shade with (up to you, generally a darker shade of the color already in use), and paint. Because it's a clipping mask it will only appear over the character.

@NickCasale10 жыл бұрын
I'd love to and hopefully if I have time in the future I will, It's essentially the same process as this, just more refined. For example with the skulls I just used these techniques to make a handful of different styled skulls, then copied, pasted, and arranged them into a pile.

Veeerry very nice and helfpful tutorial. Thanks a lot! I have one point: when bringing separate characters to one bigger canvas you usually will not scale them individually, because they all together have to follow the same "pixel-system" which would be broken when you scale the octopus by 50%, maybe another character by 200% and so on...all the pixelt would differ from each other and that would just not be correct while "faking" a correct pixel art from past times :)

Thank you. Two questions if anyone knows... I load my jpg into Gamemaker and there is a white box around it. I thought it was transparent--maybe not? It has the grid on Photoshop. Also, what do you recommend as far as making the--I'll call it "hit box", the box in Gamemaker that goes inside a character and designates if HP will be taken away from the character. With a character with a flowing cape or long legs, for instance, it's not fair if you get hit because of the cape or the legs avoid getting hit.

@liltwiggy249610 жыл бұрын
how did you set the size for 8bit -> channel art size?
@SamanthaRoyle10 жыл бұрын
bhowk I created the artwork using a 50x50 pixel canvas size in Photoshop as Nick does in the video, then opened a new document which has a 2560x1440 pixel canvas size, the Channel Art recommended size. (more info: support.google.com/youtube/answer/2972003?topic=16630&ctx=topic&hl=en) I then dragged and dropped my original artwork onto the new canvas and clicked Free Transform. Make sure the transform settings of interpolation are set to 'nearest neighbour' or else the image will transform blurry. If you have an earlier version of Photoshop than on this video the settings are in Preferences>General then change the settings at the top where it says 'Image interpolation' :) Hope that helps!
