This was awesome, I don't animate but it is really cool to see how it is created over time. My favorite animations are the older games that have the character stare at the player waiting or resting in some way instead of standing the whole time.

Just so you know - this has actually quickly become my favourite channel on KZbin. Been watching your stuff for two weeks or so, and it is so inspiring learning from you and such a pleasure watching you work and create. The way you teach and the way you deliver your content and information is very good. Really very good. You retain my attention and interest for the entire video, every video. Well done, sir; and even more than that, Thank you. 😊

It comes up to me that your content is just like AMSR; so refreshing, calming, and relaxing. At first, I came up to your channel for just proving to my teacher that I actually research my personal project which is pixal realated. But as I was working, Music or even streams were getting me be less effective on working and it was so mind bongoling!! Until I got into your content, your voice and structure of what you say is again heaven. Thank you for making videos no matter and putting in lots of commitment of your work.

You make this look so easy! I just started programming and pixelart, so my personal progress is more like pushing pixels around, hoping that they'll fall in the correct spot somehow... Im always amazed by both your results and also your speed!

Okay then, went over step one. As I didn't have any suitable backgrounds nor any suitable models to put my first ever character up against, I instead made a black box outside of my character, then used a color that the outline would be mixed up with, which was red, and then put green outside of the box.

Something I'd like to try coding for my game is making the animation faster or different depending on health and attacks per a minute. It's probably easier than it sounds. Something else I always liked in games are loiter animations. The Tenchu animations are my favorite, seeing the characters scan their surroundings.

When it comes to incidental animations (like when you speak to a character and enter a cutscene). How do you stop it from defaulting back to these idle animations? Does the animator controller prevent this?

@AdamCYounis Жыл бұрын
There are two export windows in Aseprite. One is "Export" and the other is "Export Spritesheet". You want the second one if you're trying to export it all as a single image side by side.

What would you say if one would create animations by havingthe limbs on seperate layers? I find it difficult to paint over my sprite and get it back to its original state, especially when they are a tad more detailed and I thought maybe you could extract the arm, chest, legs etc. and move them independentiely from each other?
@AdamCYounis Жыл бұрын
Most of my animations are created that way. Separating your work into layers allows for fewer "destructive edits" and you should do it wherever practical.

Hey noob here, i just created my first idle animation, but i use game maker as engine not unity. when i import the sprite it adjusts to the framerate of the game (60), means its like 3 times faster than the original since the animation originally has 20 frames. how can i fix that?
@overdrive1125 ай бұрын
i turned down the speed instead of the framerate and it works visually, but i think something will mess up sooner or later bc of that

You can get the dark theme by downloading it from aseprite.org, or if you have the steam version of Aseprite just set your install to the "beta" track for access to version 1.3b and the dark theme will be in the Aseprite preferences already.

Modern pixel artists often overdo idle animations, everyone looks like they're getting psyched up for a weightlifting contest or something. This one mostly just looks like she's breathing... breathing a bit wobblily maybe, but still just breathing. If you look at classic pixel art from games in the time games HAD to be pixel art, they almost never had these sort of idle animations. It's a modern indie game gimmick.

ive never seen a single human move up and down when breathing gotta be honest. Her arms could move and her chest in and out one pixel would have made more sense. Than if you were doing states her knees could bend a bit for resting and her torso could sit a bit lower hand on hip or arms crossed
