A suggestion I have is when your going through your game and have a team. Come up with their personalities. Like if they were in the anime. For example in my Sun playthrough I caught a Wishiwashi that was outside of the totem school. I imagined that Wishiwashi was ostracized by the others inside the school for its low level, it wanted to win but wasn’t tough enough. That gave me the drive to train Wishiwashi into the level 95 champion of Alola it is today
@francofernandes20064 жыл бұрын
Bro, I love doing that! My team in OR was like this. My Nuzleaf wanted to become the faster pokémon in the world (she was the faster in my team, so I think she did it). My cosplay Pikachu wanted to prove that being unevolved can't stop you from being the best. And my Hariyama, the weakest Makuhita in all of Dewford cave, wanted to become strong enough to protect his friends. Now,they're all in the Hall of Fame, as the Champion team of the Hoenn League. Brings a tear to my eye.

in my moon playthrough, i caught a fomantis, a pokemon that never gets enough attention.i was excited to use it and its evolution but i ended up using it less than i expected. i gave it a personality where it wanted to be a big part of my team and prove itself to everyone. eventually it took down lusamine's milotic, a pokemon who had given me a lot of trouble in the past, and false swiped its way to catching all 4 tapus. this was the 1st playthrough where i was really attached to my pokemon

I did that with my skitty, H! It was a determined skitty, and became the first pokemon that was almost as strong as my swampert! It had a brave personality and became the pokemon i know today! Now, my swablu, she was very determined like skitty and became my second strongest pokemon! She was exp share trained, and eventually became a altaria, the sweeper.

I nearly got mugged by a clefairy in pokemon yellow. Up till her all the other clefairys just used growl, not this one. First thing she did was knock out my pidgy (my fault I was relying too much on running away). So after capturing her, I made up this back story that Mt moon was the hood in pokemon. Makes sense since we all keep getting jumped by trainers and Zubats.

Another aspect of Pokémon creativity I like doing is creating original characters and giving them their own story/goals. I know you can't always customize your character, but even just giving them the name of your character helps a lot, and it can lead to creating a "themed" team composed of Pokémon that are important to your character in the Pokémon world.

One thing some friends & I have been doing in X/Y is a Avatarlocke where we each are a nation, sadly our Earth Nation ended up not being able to partake for personal reasons, & we can only use Pokemon in our nation. For example, I am Air so I can only use flying, psychic, ghost, & fairy type Pokemon but every nation can use normal types as long as they don't have a secondary typing that doesn't go with our nation like I couldn't use Pyroar since it has the fire typing as well. Every nation can use bug, no matter what secondary typing it has, I actually have a Heracross on my team. To keep it interesting, a rule we made for our group & borrowing from Nuzlocke rules is that we can only catch & use the first encounter Pokemon that works on our team per route, the thing that goes into Wonderlocke territory is that if we know what's on the route & don't want anything there, we can attempt to capture & trade out our first encounter overall & wonder trade until we get a Pokemon we can use. I actually ended up with a shiny Galvantula by doing this, she's from Germany I think it was & Galvantula's German name is Voltula so I call her Tuli for short. After every gym battle, we battle each other & we have seen how each other's teams have grown & we only progress in game while in a call on Facebook so we know of the happenings on each other's adventures. It's a lot of fun & if you can do something like this, I highly recommend it. So I did want to try a shinylocke & started my journey in Omega Ruby for that, actually not that long ago funny enough. I picked up both Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire at the midnight release of the games but only played Alpha Sapphire. Having this other game sitting there doing nothing was stupid so I figured I'd do a shinylocke on it since I never done one before. Yeah, I sorta turned that more into a shiny badge quest because I was under the impression it was first shiny encounter per route of which if that was the case, I probably still wouldn't of beaten the first gym & I figured I could keep the rules plain & simple if I did a badge quest, really only rules I have are to catch a shiny before each gym & no repeats. I caught a second shiny Magikarp when hunting Carvhana actually so I still have to hunt for that shiny to do the 6th gym. Oh yeah, also it has to be the first shiny encounter, unless it's a repeat which is why I got stuck with stuff like a Linoone & Minun on my team but now I'm thankful to have them. A little personal touch I threw in was all caught shinies for the quest need to have music inspired names like my starter, a shiny Treecko is named Karma for Karma Chameleon, my current Gyarados but was a Magikarp when I caught her is named Styx, like the band, same with my Minun being named ELO, short for Electric Light Orchestra, so far he hasn't brought me down. It's obvious I listen to music from before my time, I don't think any of my Pokemon have names inspired by music from this decade, actually none of them do. My most recent addition is a shiny Numel I named Presley because he's my hunk of burning love. So those are two things I'm currently doing in Pokemon that keep it interesting, for something in the current generation I'm doing a shiny only run in Ultra Sun where I can only use shiny Pokemon on my team. I actually ended up picking Litten but boxed him as soon as possible & replaced him with a shiny Slowpoke I caught in Ultra Moon, I traded him over holding a king's rock because I wanted to start out with a shiny Slowking, I thought that would be fun & it is a ton of fun, Hau actually has the type advantage with his starter against mine, in both ways given Decidueye is part ghost & Slowking is part psychic so it gives a little extra challenge in the game without anything being at stake since this isn't a nuzlocke, just a playthrough where I can only use shinies & I got to say, I ended up with an interesting team. Try something like that & if you don't want to SR for a shiny starter, don't. Just pick something else to be your starter & trade it to yourself like I did. I love having a Slowking as my starter so very much, Slowpoke being one of my top favorite Pokemon, I had to jump on doing that when I actually successfully SOS chained in a shiny Slowpoke in Ultra Moon. Thanks for the tips, I'll so use these to keep Pokemon more interesting while I eagerly await the announcement of the next game in the franchise.

4:12 I did that last year. I started playing through Pokémon X the day before the beginning of Euro 2016 (the European soccer tournament). Since I'm a huge soccer fan and I really love my national team, Portugal, I decided to name my Pokémon after the portuguese players. Only a few days later did I remember that Kalos was based on France, which was the country hosting Euro 2016 - it all made even more sense. I had a lot of fun in a lot of ways: comparing some of my favorite soccer players with Pokémon, playing through France (or, at least, a version of it) at the same time as the Portugal national team, etc. The best part, however, is that, in the end, Portugal became Champion for the first time ever - which, naturally, was a huge deal for me. As such, now those Pokémon, named after the players responsible for that victory, are very close to my heart.

These are all great suggestions. There's one I'd like to add: writing fan fiction. Ever since I was little, I would make up stories about living in the Pokemon world, catching all kinds of Pokemon and traveling with them, becoming a Champion or contest star, and sometimes meeting up with Ash and battling him or helping take down an evil team. Pokemon GO has inspired me to make up Pokemon stories again, and I even create teams on Showdown using only the mons I catch in GO. If you like to write, give it a try.

I'm actually in the middle of a Steel monotype Platinum run, with plans to do a Bug one next. I like Monotypes because they give me a reason to use Pokemon I otherwise wouldn't - for example I wouldn't usually grind for a Shieldon fossil since Bastiodon isn't really worth it imo, but I got to finally use it. One other thing that really heightened my enjoyment of the games was when a group of friends and I tried to complete the national Pokedex in 24 hours. We didn't make it, but got pretty close (I think we were missing 3 Pokemon that just didn't show up in Mirage spots). It was like a speedrun but more improvisational - particularly in the playthroughs where we were catching everything new. And honestly, just talking about Pokemon with my friends makes it more enjoyable. Discussions about specific mons or which games are best (my personal fave is Platinum) let me think about the series in various ways. Shout out to LUU Pokesoc!

one variation that I did is that you can only catch Pokemon after you defeated a Gym Leader and you must find and catch a Pokemon with the same type as the gym you defeated. I First tried it in Crystal before I realized that it didn't make the game much harder since the order is flying, bug, normal, ghost, fighting, steel, ice, then dragon but it was interesting to have almost a different story with earning the Pokemon rather than just catching it.

I think a spin-off of discovering the history of a pokemon that I also enjoy is discovering the source of it's name. I think it can be kind of challenging, especially with English as they commonly use other languages in naming such as french, german, or even latin... but in turn, you learn a lot about other languages. If you are learning a language, Pokemon makes a great educational tool with that as well. Modern games come in about 9 languages or so, so it gives you a lot of options to learn, and learning about pokemon names in those languages often teaches you a lot of vocabulary you'd just never commonly learn in a class or immersed in native conversation.

Playing competitive Pokémon differently is what I've recently enjoyed a lot. I've joined a Discord server that's done two Tournaments so far. In the first we could only use Pokémon that started with our initials. That was a lot of fun to do! It forced most of us to use at least 1 Pokémon (usually more) that we'd otherwise (almost) never use! The 2nd Tournament was an Arceus Metronome Tournament, which also was a lot of fun. I'm currently thinking of what the next Tournament will be, while also trying to find some new members to the server. We're lacking in numbers. I expect that to work though. After that, the fun will continue!

I agree that nuzlocke is bullshit. It sucks since I hate not catching Pokemon I'm used to battling with. Also, just merely discarding a Pokemon after one loss is pulling a Paul (you get a cookie if you get my reference)

Think of it like this. While you may not be able to use all the Pokémon you want, Nuzlockes give you a chance to use and grow attached to unfamiliar Pokémon. And the dying rule is in place so you feel like the battles actually mean something, and you have to be careful and conscientious of your choices, or else your friends might die. Personally, I love nuzlockes, and I enjoy having to choose my actions wisely instead of just blazing through when I replay Pokemon games.

I love your videos, they're always so positive, energetic and occasionally informative. Here's an idea for a video series: Top Ten Pokemon of Each Colour. There's the three primary colours, three secondary, then black, white, gray and brown. You could also do pink and turquoise (... although, now that I think about it I'm not sure how many turquoise Pokemon we have to begin with). Also, here are a few of ideas regarding this video's topic: 1. Rarity challenge. Only catch the rarest Pokemon in the area. For example, in the first route on Johto (29) you can't catch a Sentret, but you can catch a Hoppip, you just have to wade through the grass until you find it. The next chance at catching something new will be when you come to a different area with a different rarest Pokemon. In this case, route 31 and Wooper. Then Union Cave and Onix. 2. Monotype with a twist. You pick your starter, and that's your type. Then you can only catch Pokemon with the same type. But here's the twist! If you catch a dual type, your allowed type will switch to the new type gained. For example, you start with a Mudkip aka Water, then you catch a Wingull and now your catchable type is flying! So you catch a Taillow and now your new type is normal. Or maybe your first catch is a Surskit and as such you'll be stuck with bug for a while. You can catch as many Pokemon of the allowed type as you want, but once you catch a dual type, the type switch happens. 3. Gift challenge. You cannot catch anything, you can only receive gifts or buy. Your starter is a gift, you usually get at least one egg handed to you, there are fossils you find and can revive, you can buy a Magikarp in many games, and oftentimes you receive an Eevee from someone. The rest depends on which game you play; there's Lucario, Cosplay Pikachu, Lapras, Kanto starters, the prize Pokemon in game corners, to name a few off the top of my head. Mystery gift counts too, so you may get surprise additions if you're playing the newest gen. 4. Nature challenge. You can catch any Pokemon, but you can only use the ones with the same nature as your starter. So if your Oshawott is timid, everyone in your team will have to match. You get three tries with each species, then you'll have to give up on them if you don't happen to get the correct nature. 5. Colour challenge. Pick a colour, you can only catch matching Pokemon. Starter doesn't count. You have some leeway when it comes to multicoloured monsters; as long as it has a significant amount of your chosen colour, it's fine. Also, shinies can make a difference.

The most fun I've ever had with a playthrough actually extends to what I was working on while listening to this video, and combines several things you named! Specifically... My best friend and I decided to do the rival thing, but via Wi-Fi rather than in real life. (I'm sure _someone's_ said it in the comments already, but that's a valid option for people with no nearby friends who play, btw!) We were doing so with my OmegaRuby and their AlphaSapphire, with both of us doing mixed Nuz/Wonderlockes. We allowed very limited revives for some slight leniency (one per badge obtained, and only if we had found them on the ground, we couldn't buy them), and had a rule that Rival battles were "friendly" and "non-lethal"... but critical hit KOs count as "accidents". That way we didn't have full team wipes every time, but still carried some risk. Well, risk _and drama fuel!_ Because the part that made this most fun was taking notes (okay the note-taking part was more tedious than fun, but worth it) and then turning our runs into a fanfic! We both picked characters and played "as" those characters, as well as came up with a plot premise ahead of time (that worked _eerily_ well with some of the ORAS plot and flavor texts) and then I took both our notes and discussed ideas with them and started writing. I've written 30 chapters since November 2014 with at least 5 more planned, and have started doing some edits (and reformatting) to cross-post from its original homes on ff[dot]net and Ao3 to the Nuzlocke Forums board, and while doing that am also adding a few illustrations per chapter, meaning fanart is being added to the mix, too! (Working on one for chapter 4 is what I was doing while listening.) It's been a blast and gotten me really deeply invested in so many aspects as well as pushing and improving a lot of skills. I'm really excited to eventually finish writing it, too, because the final battle could not have been more perfect if we'd scripted it, _but we didn't,_ and it's going to be so much fun. Of course I've found other ways to enhance my enjoyment of the games, too. I love Sun and Moon a lot, and had a lot of fun and feels just playing through Sun, but that's owed mostly to good writing in the game itself and letting myself get way too invested in the characters. Talking to Lillie and Gladion especially was fun. "I know we're not friends" says Gladion. "HOW DARE YOU YES WE ARE" I yell back at the screen. In Y, I did a nuzlocke where I mentally "RPed" as a dimension-hopping shapeshifting demon character who discovered the Pokemon world and just casually took Calem's place, which made it immediately hilarious when the player's mom's Rhyhorn cornered me at the beginning and mom comes out saying how cute he is; "After all, he's known you since you were a baby." In a normal run, this is a cute scene of your family pet saying goodbye. In _my_ run, my poor Omnys was sweating profusely going _oh no he knows._ xD This was also the same run where I started reading everything Shauna says as _super_ dry and passive-aggressive instead of bubbly and oblivious, which made me absolutely fall in love with her as a character. For instance, when I first played X, Calem (I played as Serena in X and Calem in Y) was a bit boring but friendly and helpful, teaching the new trainers to catch Pokemon, and Shauna's "You mean the Pokemon goes INSIDE the PokeBall!?" and Serena pointing out Shauna already had a Pokemon in a ball just came off as... "kid humor" I guess? The unrealistically ditzy character missing obvious things until pointed out, a little annoying but okay I guess. .... Read the same line with Shauna being a snarky bitch, and Serena not understanding sarcasm, and I instantly love both of them so much. The above plays back into my ORASlocke, too. Just shifting your own perception from "generic kid starting an adventure plot" can make the game _feel_ so much different and it's wonderful. Snarky Shauna filled me with life, and having decided in advance that Hoenn was a dystopian corporatocracy controlled by a corrupted Devon Corp made things like the vague flavor text about New Mauville and Sea Mauville being shut down feel _way_ heavier and the fact that those things were never properly explained just felt all the more like a sinister cover-up instead of (as much) like underused backstory. Overall, I guess my suggestion is mixing a bit of your own story with the canon and seeing what happens. The results can be really fun!

I find it fun to make up what my Pokémon teams would be if I lived in the Pokémon world. Like, the anime's universe. Where Pokémon battles are more exciting. I'd love to be partnered with a Raichu as it's probably my favorite Pokémon. I've used one in every playthrough.

I've never seen a Pokemon video like this on youtube. This was great, thanks for making it. I collect the action figures and pose them on my shelf along side Spider-Man, Goku, Power Rangers and Ninja Turtles. They all look awesome posed together. There have been a lot of very good articulated pokemon figures made in recent years so it's easier than ever to still play with them outside of the games and have the same team when you turn your 3DS on.

Make it more fun by adding Kenny Omega to the game! There's always giving each character a voice that you think matches their personality if you know the game already or if you don't, a voice you think fits their appearance with a personality to boot. Crasher Wake is a big tough wrestler, so you can give him a Hulk Hogan voice, or if you think he's a wimpy guy who pretends to be tough, give him a wimpy sounding voice.

You forgot the most simple yet suprisingly debatable thing ever: making it so you can't switch when your opponent sends out a new Pokémon. Some people claim that this makes the games harder, but while that's usually true, there's some instances where this could come in handy, such as if you're using a Pokémon as, well, bait.

Me and my best friend are playing through the entire Pokémon franchise (the main games) together. We started at the original red and blue and are going to play gold and silver next when they come out. Then it's gen 3, gen 1 remake, gen 4, gen 2 remake, and so on. But with the remakes, we transfer one random party member from the original to use in the remake. We fight after picking a starter, after every gym, and right after the league. It's a ton of fun.

My friends and I did a really fun "mystery egg run" of XY and ORAS. Essentially you're starting with a team of 6 pokemon you hatch from eggs based around a theme, but its a total suprise as to what you'll get until you hatch it. Whowever gives you the Pokemon also gets to decide its nickname. In XY, everyone was given Pokemon that reminded another person of them. ORAS was a monotype run. It's a fun way to playthrough the games and does add a challenge since you have to then stick with one team from the start. I got stuck with a total glass cannon psychic team in ORAS but it was a fun challenge

New idea i just had. Time capsule marathon challenge. Choose a few games each of a different gen. 3 is probably a good number. For instance. Platinum, black 2, and y. Begin in the first game, so for this case platinum. While playing through you may use no more than 6 members in your team. This includes hm slaves. If you need to open a slot on your team, then you have the option to put it into stasis by depositing it into a special box which you may not withdraw from. The game ends when the credits roll. Now, whatever your final hall of fame team was, you will breed them all with a ditto assuming they can, and send the children up to the next game. If a pokemon cant breed it doesnt get a trade up, and you have to deal with it. This is to punish use of op legendaries in end game. So while its an option you have less choices later. Now that we have our platinum children, we will recieve our starter, and have to decide whether to keep the starter or remove an old team member's child. This and the 3rd playthrough then opperate the same as the first. Overall the main challenge comes from resource managing and planning ahead. You may have noticed I didnt refer to this as a nuzzlocke. What makes this different is that you can use pokemon centers and revive all you want, but if you black out and lose a battle, you must rebreed the original children and restart the current game. All of the team members and pokemon in stasis are lost forever for gameplay purposes. The final objective is to complete all 3 games in the most efficient way possible. One last thing to finish it off is to send all of the pokemon in stasis and on your teams across all 3 games, up to a 4th final game, (ill use sun in this example) and run it nuzzlocke style in which there is no exp share allowed and you are not allowed to use any pokemon caught in this game in the nuzzlocke including the starter. Feel free to catch stuff, you just cant use it. This last nuzzlocke is a good way to guage how efficient you were and how well you planned ahead.

I write and try to add more story to the games (mostly the older ones). I take details from the game, e.g. the exhibits in the Pewter Science Museum, and write some headcanons about them. I've done this on my most recent runs of FireRed and HeartGold, and it made the experience so much more immersive. It really gets me to pay attention to details.
