Like an old moll at a christening mate, get her done. The oil is used to stop the patties setting like bricks, it keeps the stuff pliable in the cold and makes it easier for the little darlings to eat. I also add two lemons per 2 kg of sugar to invert the sugars when making sugar feed for the girls, as in golden syrup, it stops the sugar from settling out, and forming a crust. I also add a few drops of tea tree oil per batch to help with nosema etc.

That is all very good advice thanks. I only have 50+ hives and building. I am now getting the girls ready for the coming winter. I will give your lemons and tea tree oil a go. I purchased a large commercial dough mixer to make patty mixing easier.
@sentimentalbloke75863 жыл бұрын
@@roycarter6235 We have golden wattle and some other natives that flower through the winter months so supplimental feeding is generally a luxury for the bees. It depends on how many stores they have left in mid to late winter inspections. Our winter is much the same as the southern states of the US, depending on elevation. The addition of pollen patties realy stirs up the breeding cycle and is best left to late winter/ early spring, just before bud swell starts so that the numbers are ready for the blossoms.

Add a little cream of Tatar to the syrup as it cools this will help preserve it and help invert the sugar so it’s easier for the bees to stomach

How much if your using a 60% sugar to 40% water when your making up about 2 lites of water.
@BESHYSBEES3 жыл бұрын
@@holzsmsf if I understand your question correctly you’d use 1/2 tsp per gallon or 4ltr so 1/4 tsp for 2ltr If you’re making bulk lots It also helps preserve the syrup and prevents recrystallisation you can store in cool dark place for a few months no worries

Was I the only one who was shocked the BBM just didn't through everything into a cement mixer to mix it up? I had to go away and wonder what the world was coming too! I will be interested to see how this works out. I used to use the wax paper and put cuts in it and let the ladies chew through it to stop the mold etc, so a complete open patty like that is going to be interesting to watch the outcome over the next 8 weeks. Thanks for the laughs

Made some pollen patties at my friend's place for his bees. His measurements were 100grms of pollen, 50grms of water and 2 tea spoons of oil. We cheated by putting it all in a food mixer and took us 5mins to make 1 big pattie :)

@cambo8674 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, a plasters drill is also good for mixing the dough/pattie mix [it turns slower then a drill with more torque because of the gear box]. You can get one for around $100 with attachments. For the smaller batches you can use a mixing machine, just don't the missus catch you using it [so clean it and return it]. I'm interested to see how it goes as I've tried. with little success as bees look a me and go whats this s+!t. Then they turn into bricks.

There is also your video where you're making homemade/handmade candles from your own bee wax and there is also so beautiful music...if it's not a secret, please, share it with us! I hope someone hears my cry for help . I installed a nuc 5/20/20 and the bees and queen were doing really well. I added my second brood box 2 weeks after install . Few days ago I found a bunch of drone cell located at the bottom of a frame , also found 2-3 capped queen cells. I found my queen and it appears there is no where to lay . Bees are drawing out comb but quickly filling with nectar. I dont know what to do. I feed them sugar water . Should I split ? Do i move the queen i to another box with a few frames ? Help ! Im so confused Do i stop feeding them ? Do I add my honey super . Any advice would be appreciated .

@@stickyprickbees3373 Depending on where you keep your bees here in Aus we have natives that bloom mid to late winter and although they arn't much good for nectar they have a lot of pollen, I refer to the wattles etc I winter in 2 boxes, July to August I add a box of foundation to the bottom of the hive and shake down the top box and add an excluder before putting it back, after three weeks or so, just as the buds start to burst on the stone fruit I remove the top box, slap a patty of 50/50 pollen sup and soy flour and replace it with a box of several frames of comb and starter strips. These will be my first honey supers.
