I used pretty much the same exact materials you did, except the paint, and when I mixed the clay chunks, liquid clay and paint things didn't work out too great. Love these! Do you find it better to poke holes before baking or drill holes after? Also what do you recommend for securing backings?
@Jahmella943 жыл бұрын
Personally I drill after, I used to poke holes pre-bake but it would warp/distort my clay piece. Plus, a clean drilled hole always looks nicer. As for securing your backings, I like to use gorilla super glue gel. Once dried, I will either UV resin the back for about 20 minutes or I’ll use some translucent liquid clay and bake the clay pieces for 30 minutes to cure.
@RaisingNobles3 жыл бұрын
Most people prefer drilling after - I’m not selling my earrings at the moment, but if I did I would drill after. Secure your posts with gorilla gel glue XL or loctite 60 second glue and then add bake and bond for an additional layer of protection
@madisonlyman86213 жыл бұрын
@@RaisingNobles so it does not hurt the clay to bake it longer with the back and bond after you've glued it on? I guess I am concerned it could burn my clay if I bake it longer

@@madisonlyman8621 as long as your oven temp is correct, which I recommend an internal thermometer to measure the inside heat of your oven. Mine is off by 50 degree lol (It’s old) but as long as you have the correct temp your clay won’t burn. I usually bake my clay about 5 degree lower than recommended temp. I’ve had success with that.

Can I ask why people seem to use translucent clay as a backing? I would have thought the clay rolled together was enough
@RaisingNobles2 жыл бұрын
yes. the reason for that is because when you place your cut pieces down, the outter edges where the acrylic paint is don't adhere together very well. so if you just place the cut pieces on your work surface and roll them out you will have your slab falling apart. hopefully that makes sense
