What are some of your favourite chord progressions? Sidebar: at 11:35 E minor is not the dominant of F major (not the 1 of A minor), so you could call it a deceptive resolution. My mistake. Can you please make a video on how to find the key of a loop or sample please
@itstonyholiday
@itstonyholiday 3 жыл бұрын
I don’t know how accurate it will be but you could try tossing it in the q-sampler and seeing what comes up. Training your ears is something that takes time but basically you want to train them to hear the root note of the loop. That’s your key.

I’m looking to get a new macbook pro (16 inch) and I heard there were rumors of a M1 Macbook Pro but nothing was said at the Apple event today. My current Macbook is on its last leg- is it worth waiting for a possible new macbook or just buy a 2019/2020 model?
@itstonyholiday
@itstonyholiday 3 жыл бұрын
They won’t announce it until at least October. Itl be an M1 16” I’m sure, but you’re going to have to wait. What’s up with your current rig?
@panama1942
@panama1942 3 жыл бұрын
@@itstonyholiday It’s an early 2015 macbook pro. It will randomly glitch out, where the screen just goes static and will randomly close apps for no reason. Also the battery needs to be replaced and the cost is too much to justify doing it to an older macbook, I might as well put that money for a new macbook.
@itstonyholiday
@itstonyholiday 3 жыл бұрын
You have an SSD in it? Also sounds like a cable issue or perhaps GPU. I had my 2011 running great til I upgraded. For the price of a new M1 MBP I would salvage the 2015
@panama1942
@panama1942 3 жыл бұрын
@@itstonyholiday I think it’s SSD. Its low on memory and I would like to download a lot more plugins in the future. I’m not sure if I could download them to a separate hard drive though rather than straight to macbook hard drive. I dropped it back in 2017 and the screen went blank and I had to take to Apple for repairs so maybe its a cable thing lingering from that
@itstonyholiday
@itstonyholiday 3 жыл бұрын
@@panama1942 Hmmmm yea. My advice is if you're set on a 16" MBP wait for the fall. If you want a new rig now, the new M1 Airs are great for running Logic + plugins. Personally I would salvage what you have, put a new SSD in it, bump the RAM up and spend the difference on some plugins that you want 👍

This is a really nice lesson (and also a takeaway that your two M and m progressions would be a good thing to add to a template 😎). But … that’s not the NNS. Just old fashioned chord numbering like you’d use for any kind of music. NNS is actually quite different. But, nomenclature aside this is a good primer for chord progressions.
@itstonyholiday
@itstonyholiday 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the correction Philip. Someone else had pointed that out as well, so I also learned something while making this video. Curious, how is the NNS different? Ive just been getting back into making videos so there will be more content for download in the near future. Maybe I’ll put the progressions in there too. Thanks for watching + the comment!
@philipmarsh3522
@philipmarsh3522 3 жыл бұрын
@@itstonyholiday They are really similar, but the one you're using is the figured bass system, which is where you use Roman numerals and upper and lower case to show M and m chords. NNS just uses numbers (1-8) and then a number of other symbols and conventions to tell you what to play (and then you have to know what key the song is in). If you walked into a Nashville studio, you might be lost when you start seeing a 1 with a diamond around it (hold the chord for a bar), or a hat over the one (play hard and choked) or a fraction (inverted chord) or a bunch of other things that are simple really, but also give a lot more information than just roman numbers to tell you what chord sequence to play. Here's an example: i.pinimg.com/originals/76/5b/d5/765bd530173fa7498e9b1a5aef9fe584.jpg
