Purchased: August 2022 - still works GREAT! kzbin.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn I live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install.This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment.I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

Ide yg bagus .. kalau baiknya si tempat tengah itu diberi garam, supaya dinginnya lebih awet. Terus sisi luarnya dibuat kran air buat menguras es yg sudah cair. Salam dari Indonesia. Bravo!!

Nice idea. Some suggestions if you would appreciate and like to try. What if you reverse the process. Let the fan blowout cool air from the container. As per the theory of forcing warm air through a narrow passage will cool the air. Then the advantage of reverseing the bottle position is advantageous as the temperature of hot air from outside is already considerably cooled and and would further be cooled while flowing over the ice and cold water and is sucked out of the container. Ensure the top of the container is sealed with some kind PVC tape is air tight. Just an humble contribution to the efforts you've put into the project. Delighted to watch your project. Hope to see many more ideas & projects from your end. All the best in your future endeavours. Regards

Not so good, ok for the temperature but do you see the humidity? The cold steam of the ultrasonic pods pull up the humidity and this, in accordance of the Scharlau's index, causes discomfort. It is better to reduce the humidity than the temperature. A hot but dry climate is more bearable than a humid one, although relatively cooler.

So you're using a freezer (which pumps heat from inside the unit and out into the room in order to freeze things) to create ice. Then you're using that same ice to try to cool the room back down again. You're running in circles and wasting electricity that could have been used to run an actual room conditioner that pumps heat outside. The water evaporating might help a little bit, but only if the air is especially dry - otherwise you're just raising the humidity to the point where the evaporative cooler stops working.

Thank you so much for saying this XD the stupidity here is painful.
@rmaiz470

Assuming that people are actually cooling their homes with a homemade unit is where the stupidity really is tbh. This is for convenience. We waste so much electricity on pointless things that provide us convenience, that's the whole point. You sacrifice efficiency for convenience.
@MrZedblade
@MrZedblade Жыл бұрын
@@rmaiz470 Lol. Agree about convenience but the point is that the freezer will heat your house up more than the ice could possibly cool it down, due to conservation of energy. You can't reduce the heat inside a space unless you move that heat energy somewhere else, like outside. So this contraption is actually a heater, not a cooler. Although I suppose it might work if you put the freezer outside, which is exactly how an actual air conditioner works. Or, if you're really smart you go to your neighbor's house to fetch their ice - heat up their house with their electricity while you stay nice and cool.

Super job. Love the creativity, simplicity. Those who build this could also use stronger material like metal tubing to make sure there is no water leaking into final Airstream. Those who do not have a fog device wet Cloths work for evaporation. Two stages and a expansion area for a pressure drop.

..the temperature came down a little bit but the humidity went up! ..not good! ..also he's got it that it's a 12v power supply but it says 24 v. on the unit ..? ..I do like the concept tho that the air is pushed thru the cooled cans without touching the ice which would have added moisture to the air had it been pushed straight thru the ice itself ...so why add water to the 1st section at the beginning? ..it only adds moisture to the already humid incoming air thru the fans? ..unit needs to be much larger with coiled 1-2inch tubing running thru lots more ice ..warm moist air pushed thru coils of chilled pipe will condense on the inside walls and need somewhere to drain off ..with some refinements and changes to dehumidify and cool the air, it might be possible to have a more efficient cooling unit.

that diy is actually a humidifier, the purpose of this equipment is to cool the air by adding more water (preferably cold or ice cold) in to it. i.e. humidify. sad fact is that ul still need to have an electric fan to circulate the air. atleast it will lower the room temp to 3-5 degrees. which is alot better.

Technically speaking, this is never an air conditioner, this is an evaporative cooler that works by exploiting the fact that as water evaporates, it takes heat energy with it and the air gets a bit cooler, and adding ice may help with the cooling. Meanwhile, an air conditioner is an appliance that dehumidifies the air and moves heat energy from one place to another, using a refrigerant and a set of evaporator and condenser coils within the AC. Evaporative coolers such as seen in this video increase humidity because they rely on the evaporation of water for cooling, that's also the reason why your thermometer reaches over 99% when you measure the blowing air, that's the humidity meter. So during humid conditions, these DIY "air conditioners" just wouldn't work efficiently. You also need to put ice on this DIY machine, which means you're using your freezer to cool you, in which your freezer cooled that ice by absorbing the heat energy of the ice and dumping it into the surroundings and that's a quite amount of ice, which can be a great hassle too.

Your foam box looks bigger than the one I used. Mine was a shipping foam cooler that contained medical items that have to be kept cold, or refrigerated. I took the top off and cut out most of the bottom, leaving a basic four sided foam frame with no top, or bottom. Set it on an end table, made of plastic (cheap), put a fan on the same table and the freezer bags that replace ice cubes for shipping on the inside so air would flow past. I replace the freezer bags as needed and in this heat is often, like every 40 minutes, or so. Not as fancy as what you have, but nearly dirt cheap.

It looks and sounds quite good. One major problem here though, please get rid of the awful music which goes with this video. There is no need for that awful thumping bass. PC. 30. 05. 2019.

Peter Carruthers well, you don’t like the music… I like the music and so probably many others (including the author of the video) Alternative way for you to solve your problem: turn the audio off. He doesn’t say a word anyway.

In such arrangements, the air flow is OK and nothing to worry as the air is passing in the cold tunnels. So not much humid. Yes no need of the normal water and lightning.

A DIY swamp cooler. Cool but it needs a DIY dehumidifier or else all the water is going to end up as humidity in your place. You don't want that unless you like mold & mildew. So where's the dehumidifier part homie?
