Most of the Portuguese immigrants to Hawaii (late 19th century to early 20th) came from the Madeira islands. Maybe the Hawaiian version was a variation of Madeira style malasadas.

What is bread flour? My local store only has plain and self rising which one can I use?
@OnoHawaiianRecipes4 жыл бұрын
The difference is that bread flour has more protein than all purpose. It means the bread will rise higher, but if you use all purpose flour, it will still rise fine.

There is a mistake, when you say 1 1/2 teaspoons of yeast in the ingredient part of the video and below the video, on the screen when you show yourself putting in the yeast in the bowl, it says “1 1/2 CUPS YEAST” Just want to make sure nobody puts 1 1/2 CUPS! No worries though 😉 🤙🤙

Vinegar? Mmmmm.. I use a different ingredient...and my dough is way more sticky
@OnoHawaiianRecipes4 жыл бұрын
Funky right? I've seen other recipes use vinegar as well. What the vinegar does is make the malasadas lighter and springier. If the dough is sticker keep adding in about a tablespoon of flour as you knead it. It depends on your location. For example I'm in a drier place, so I would add in less flour. If you're in a more humid place, add more flour to the dough. Hope that helps ☺️
