How to Make Purple Frosting for Cakes, Cupcakes, and Cookies

Learn how to make vibrant & bold purple frosting easily & quickly for cakes, cupcakes, and cookies! Purple frosting can be difficult to make since there are many shades of purple and most recipes use blue and red gel food coloring which has always made a grey color for me! I highly recommend using gel food coloring compared to liquid food coloring since gel food coloring is more concentrated than liquid food coloring. Americolor gel food coloring is my favorite gel food coloring since you do not need to use many drops of gel food coloring to make vibrant bold colors and it does not make the frosting taste bitter. Feel free to use another shade of pink or blue but I found that Americolor Fuschia & Royal Blue gel food coloring produced the best result for a beautiful shade of purple. Purple frosting is great for decorating flowers or other designs on baked goods.
Directions
Add 9 drops of fuschia gel food coloring and 3 drops of blue to 1 cup of white frosting and mix together. Letting the frosting sit for around 1-2 days will help deepen the color.

I tried using the Americolor Deep Pink gel food coloring, and it did not turn out purple. I highly recommend fuschia gel food coloring if you have it. If you do decide to use pink, try adding it a little at a time until you get the shade of purple you would like.
