Great video, I am just getting into surf fishing on Amelia Island, Florida at the age of 71. I stopped by home depot today and bought the 10 ft x 1 1/2" PVC. Tomorrow I will blow the dust off of my deWalt chop saw and make myself three spikes. Oh yeah, I just subscribed.

Nice! Hope you enjoy the spikes. I'm still using the ones I made in the video. Good luck out there!

Hey I subscribed and watched two of your videos. Great job! I retired to Brazil and live 3 minutes walk to the beach. I used to fish with my dad when I waa a kid. Mostly deep sea fishing on a boat out of Monterey CA. My daughter and stepson like to fish so I decided to have some fishing get togethers on the beach. I dont eat fish but everyone else does so it will work out fine. I have zero experience surf fishing and only have a reel that belonged to my dad. So watched your intro video to get me started. Great stuff! Thanks for making these videos and I will be watching more.

Greay vid as always.quick tip.if u drill another bigger hole up top and feed a string to it tie the ends and u can then carry it round ur neck so ur hands r free wen walking down the beach with ur other stuff.that way ull always have it close by wen working the coast

You can use a heat gun, beer bottle and some olive oil to flute the end of the sand spike and then sand it off ! As always awesome video.

Great tip! Was just too cheap to buy a heat gun 🤣
@MatthewPainter Жыл бұрын
Good video. If you want to take it a step further, take a heat gun (or torch or maybe even a hair dryer) and heat up the top 1-2". When it starts to get bendy, mash it over the top of a wine bottle, or take a metal rod (ratchet handle works good) and create a flared end. When you get it the shape you like, run it under cold water and it'll set back. The flared end makes getting your rod in easier and also prevents wear on the end.

Some may have said this already but 1-1/2" PVC is not always big enough. One of my rods(12' Penn Battalian 2) is a bit more than 1-1/2 at the bottom. So I need 2'

Easy build! I saw a video where it was difficult to push seep into the sand, even with a rubber mallet/hammer. He used his mouth to close the top, and suck in air while pushing down. Went down so easy. 😂
@JustinReedFishing5 ай бұрын
I've had to use the suck method a few times myself. It's crazy how easy it'll go in that way. Good luck out there!

Great basic inexpensive sand spike! These can be customized and when creating mine awhile back I added a rope strap for easy carry onto the beach along with a smooth vinyl tape measurer adhered with rubber cement. A rubber plumbing coupling (hardware store) that inserted on top that can be adjusted up and down depending on the rod length.
@JustinReedFishing2 жыл бұрын
Dude adding a rope for carrying is a genius idea! I am going to be doing that for sure. How did you attach the rope? Other add ons are great ideas as well.

@@JustinReedFishing Thanks Justin. I have a bolt inserted through the PVC at a distance toward the middle to stop and support the end of my rod handle when inserted into the surf spike. I simply secured one end of a quarter inch nylon rope underneath the washer/nut of that bolt and just tied the other end to the upper part of the PVC. The rope works as a "sling" to throw over my shoulder and the tied end simply slides up or down out of the way while in use on the beach.

Got a beach house rented for a week next summer ft Morgan area on gulf shores al.going to make some of these.

I made these several years ago. I added drilled holes for 1/2" pvc stops vs the wood screws. Depending on the rod using, adjust depth goes in. My single and biggest complaint, the weight, gawd they are heavy to drag 3 of them along with rest of your stuff to a spot if you do not have a cart.

umm... you can make yours and they are just as good but that bell shape is to rest your mouth against and suck... the vacuum tends to do the work for you...
