Fantastic work. Instead of using sandbags, in the 'old' days when we built balsa wood models, we used pins to hold pieces together while the glue dried. When dry, you just pull out the pins and there's only a little hole left which gets filled when you paint the model or cover it with a film. You can make all sorts of odd shapes hold together that way and if you need more strength, just use more pins. If the parts want to pull apart, just put the pins in at an angle.

I've actually built an RC airplane once back in the 80's using the paper plans from a Do it yourself kit everything was a pattern in the same dimensions, I went to a hobby shop and bought a bunch of balsa wood using sharp razors and hacksaw Blades. I was able to build and lay out every part it was a lot of fun, it flew just like the one in the kit ,I'm going to do it again

I see a lot of attention to keeping the build very lightweight even though it is also fragile. The fact it will only fly slow with the small motor should help prevent over stressing the airframe. I like watching slow and graceful fliers, even if the only days they can fly are very calm and breeze limited.

Thank you for sharing plans, experience and a detailed description crafting video. I have been thinking about a slow floating plane. Do you think it could be possible to lift the plane from water with a low speed or is it necessary to achieve high speed to 'jump above the wave' and unglue the hull ? I find the floatplane you design very nice and efficient but very fast to me as a contemplative model to fly above a calm lake. Is there a way to engineer such a low hydroplane ? Maybe not as slow as this one above but closer to this... Slow speed challenge for models appears to me as exciting as high speed quite easier if I understand reynolds number.. Maybe for a slower hydroplane a thinner hull would help. With a longer flatter front hull part before the cut. Associated with a Decreasing V shape. Just wondering :) Hope to read some advice and see your next creation whatever it is. (A suggestion if ever you would need it, about a real bird model, either eagle type, or see bird, or kind of crane, more original) Have good flights and crafting !

@NumaVIG4 жыл бұрын
@NumaVIG4 жыл бұрын
Very interesting but the construction method is slightly complicated for a beginner. Those who want to simplify it with a very little penalty in performance, could use the wing section with flat bottom (eventualy the upper surface of trailing edge overhangs for 2 cm) and reinforce structural critical points, for example the internal white sheet of fuselage and the upper surface of fuselage to to be extended 5 cm further the trailing edge (in opposit direction) to avoid the abrupt interruption of the structure (+2 g? but much better).
