I can definitely recommend Van's Silicon Molds. they are amazing! The detail is astonishing. The difference they make to your finished soap is wonderful, and they boost your creativity. They are more expensive, but as I buy the basic ones as you do in our equivalent of "Wal-Mart", I save up and buy one or two when I can. Thank you for the hints on colouring, my first batch of little red hearts were beautiful. Deep ruby red, with a pearlescent swirl to them. Oh dear, in pink cupcakes they bled and bled, looked like Horror Cupcakes. Lesson learned. Once again, this and the two frosting videos are excellent Katiebabes, well done!

I just adore your videos! I’m from Southeast Texas and owned a Candle Shop back in 2001. It burned in 2002 so I set back for a while and now I’ve moved to Oklahoma and don’t have to work outside the home. I’m getting back Into the Candles and Soaps and you’ve been a huge inspiration! Your amazing and always so upbeat and positive! Looking forward to your future crafts and thank you for being such an inspiration to me getting started in this industry again!

Hi :-)! when you label your soaps, do you have to include an ingredient list for the MP embeds too?
@HighTideSoaps3 жыл бұрын
I know this is an OLD post, but it depends where you live. In Canada, yes, we have to list EVERY ingredient from most to least on our soap labels including the embeds. Can't just add a sprinkle of glitter or a new colour if you decide it would look nice without changing your labels, website description, Health Canada forms, etc. SUPER big annoyance. In the US if you're making soap without making claims about it being a cosmetic, you don't even have to list the ingredients.

Also what is low sweat melt and pour compared to regular m&p?
@nyssac29147 жыл бұрын
rainbowcuppycakex low sweat has less glycerine and if will absorb less moisture from the air (which is what causes "sweat" or little water droplets on exposed melt and pour). It's great for embeds but if you're making a whole m&p soap use regular cause it will feel nicer due to the extra glycerin

Hi Katie, I love your video's and have just started soaping at 45 because of your great inspirational work! I have a question. I made some melt and pour hand carved quartz crystals to go in the top of my CP soap. The only problem is the crystals attracted water droplets all over them whilst I'm curing. when I add melt pour embeds to my cold process soap it melts why? thanks for answering
@wmidds9 жыл бұрын
+Carmen Aviles Your CP base is too hot: Melt and pour usually has a melting point of 120-130 degrees. If your base is too hot, they melt! If you let your soap go to gel phase, they will melt also!
@carmenaviles7799 жыл бұрын
What can I do to prevent that? I pour the lye with the oils at 80 degrees both. Do I have to leave the soap unwrapped? Thanks

@nyssac29147 жыл бұрын
emm emma it's a "how long is a piece of string" question. Do you mean cold process soap? You can get most (if not all) ingredients at the supermarket - olive oil, lard and coconut oil are a good start. Then a mould - can use a milk carton or a silicon mold (that will never been used for food) or one specific for soap making that will cost a bit more. Adding in colours and fragrances make it quickly add up. I would expect $100 could get you started with some scents, colours, a mould and oils (depending on where you live and where you order from).

You could also try putting the embeds in an airtight container with silica beads below. If airtight then the embeds wont be able to draw moisture from the air and the silica beds or aroma beads which you find in shoes also help to dry the air within the container. Also remember to spray with 95% rubbing alcohol
