When it comes to gardening, I am quite frugal! In this video, we create a bunch of spring hanging baskets for my tree hangers. We fill the baskets with plants that I started from seed or perennials found in my yard. Those plants are Sweet Alyssum / Lobularia, Pansies, Creeping Jenny and Lamium / Spotted Dead-nettle. The hanging baskets were purchased years ago and we just reuse old potting mix and mix it with compost that I made last year. You can do this same flower combination or idea in a pot or a container.

Yes shop your yard. Last year I decided grow perennial pot spillers such as lamium and creeping Jenny ( and save $$). I bet you gave me that idea 😉

I love it! I'm sure you will have double the amount of these perennial spillers to play with for this year. Yay! ♥🌷

I plant mostly petunias that I grew myself from seed into hanging baskets and hang them around the sunny parts of the yard. I will be planting most of the rest of my flowers that I grew in pots or in the ground.!!😁

Such great info! You are right, gardening can be so expensive. I would also be interested in how you make your own compost. Maybe there is already a video? I’ll have to look. Thanks Vita!

Thanks so much! Here's a video that I made last Fall on how to make a compost pile: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4DHgH-XhK-Bbac. Pretty soon, I'll be disassembling that pile and will make a video showing how to heat up the pile so that it kills off any weed seeds and breaks down into Black Gold. Definitely give composting a try! 😊🥀

Thanks so much! I've been looking around seeing which Spring bulbs I can divide and move to areas of the yard where not much is blooming. I plan to move a bunch of Spring bulbs pretty soon. 😊🌷

Wow you made such nice baskets, I have such bad luck growing pansies and violoas from seed. But I leave the violas alone this year I must have over a thousand plants. Seems when they sproute outside by themselves they grow big and strong. think I started my petunias too late.

Hi Michael. You are so correct. It does appear that the pansies that overwinter or sprout in the spring are much stronger and healthier. That's too bad about your petunias. Are they still very small in size? Maybe once you bring them outside they'll take right off. Fingers crossed. 🤞🏼🌻

How do u overwinter Creeping Jenny? I would love to know versus buying each season.
@budgetgardeningvita
@budgetgardeningvita 3 ай бұрын
Creeping Jenny is a perennial in zones 4-9, so if you plant it out in your yard / landscape in the early fall and give it some time to establish its roots, it should overwinter for you (as long as your live in zones 4-9).

How do you start your Creeping Jenny? From cuttings or seeds? I would love to have a hundred,lol
@budgetgardeningvita
@budgetgardeningvita 3 ай бұрын
Hi Kathy! I originally bought one small Creeping Jenny plant and have propagated it from runners as well as division. If allowed to run over the soil, the stems usually take root and spread. You can also dig up a clump of Creeping Jenny plants with roots and simply divide them. Another method for propagating Creeping Jenny is to make 2-inch stem tip cuttings just below a leaf or bud.
