Couple tips you might find handy. I use a carbide tipped scribe to etch the stainless steel, I bought a cheap one from harbor freight for like 6$ (dremel makes a better one for more). It works good and essentially works like a tattoo gun. It might make going around curves a bit easier. Second (which you may know about already more than likely) is using .045 filler to make small detail work. Stepping up to 1/16 or down to .030 wire also gives contrast in bead size, which adds depth to a piece. Using 1/16 filler on a lower amperage can help keep the weld bright silver or bring out the yellow/reds because your using the rod itself to pull heat out of the weld puddle. I am still learning it myself but I can pretty reliably outline something and control 90% of the oxide color. I tend to do 3/16th stainless steel on a 5/8th backing plate which gives significant control over oxide color due to the thermal mass of all the metal. Overall great video and thanks for sharing.

Such an awesome skill! You killed it! Being a fabricator/welder I really appreciate your talent!! And really envy people as creative as you even though I'm a great tig welder I'm not creative enough to do "art projects" with one unfortunately because something like that would make a kick ass present for someones birthday or Christmas or whatever!

How did you get Rick so large on the paper? I'm new to this printing and metal art.

If I were to use something like this outdoors would I need to clear coat to protect it or would it stand up on its on well?
@arcdetailing26035 жыл бұрын
The colors are a layer of oxidation. If the welds are silver or gold they will retain the rust preventative properties. The reds and blues are hot enough to remove that layer. So a clear coat would be needed for those colors.

I just started messing with this kind of weld art and wanted to know if adding a clear coat would damage the colors ?
@arcdetailing26035 жыл бұрын
Adding a clear coat will not damage anything

I have just started seeing this type of artwork. Really diggin it. I want to try some of this as well. Question.... what do you for stencils?
@arcdetailing26035 жыл бұрын
When I purchased my stainless sheets I bough them as 8x11 for a reason. I just launch a google doc. Search for the image I want on goggle. Copy paste into the doc. Make it the size I want and print.

@@arcdetailing2603 got you. Now once you print it off the artwork or design and then you tape or glue it to the workpiece. the other thing I would like to know is once the image is down on the workpiece and you start to cut out the design with the Dremel does the paper rip? I know I've tried doing the same type of Artwork for lettering but on a piece of wood. But when I use the router it does tend to tear up the paper quite a bit.

Sorry for the late response, but it depends on the bit and how fast the bit is spinning. Fine point bit and highish speed are what I go for!

Hey, what specs do u use? What pulse and pulse duty cycle?
@arcdetailing26034 жыл бұрын
Hey sebek! I had the machine set to about 80 amps or so but was not using the full pedal. No pulse. It really isn't necessary.
@sebek13524 жыл бұрын
@@arcdetailing2603 ok, thanks, i tried to do it with my welder on 6mm black stell plate with 1hz pulse on 65 amps and it looks not too bad, I will try it without pulse.
