The process from these dried shrimps in the video might be way too different from the ones feom the mexican store. These rediculously salty to be eaten as a snack.

@ivandanielvargassanchez1837 Жыл бұрын
Just for seeing the color of the shrimp i can tell you that its not well done, the salt water shrimp cant be used for dry. It has to be estero shrimp, farm shrimp or swet water fish. I tell you because i’m whole seller dry shrimp. You also ve to put some color on it, we use red achiote or some vegetal colorant.

And the next, men the skin its eatable too 😮. I think that this is not for busisness.

Is it acceptable to peel first before drying or do you lose flavour by doing so? I’m going to use a food dehydrator as I live in a colder climate.(Canada)😀
@MultiSanchez145 жыл бұрын
Frank Schabler from what I know, peeling them makes it easier for you to just hydrate and toss them into whatever dish you want, don't forget to devein them first! It makes them convenient. The shells have lots flavor, too, though, which you can use by grinding up the shrimp in its entirety to make shrimp powder. Hope that helps :>

How much dried shrimp do you get after starting with 20 lbs?

Not very much, about 3 - 5 lbs depending on how dried and shrinked up they are.

Your video is the most explicit one here on the subject, i like it. My questions are: is it just as safe to sun dry baby shrimps without the shell? What if the temperature is not exacly as high as the one you've mentioned?
@AngkorSpice9 жыл бұрын
Gio Biocampo I have not sun dried shrimp without the shell before; always with shells on and break later when it's dried. The shell traps salty water in the shrimp while evaporating slowly in sun that gives the shrimp a bright pink color & flavor. As far as safety goes I would cook shrimp first before drying. If the temperature is not hot enough use food dehydrator or dry for more than 3 days.

How many lbs of fresh shrimp do you need to produce one lb of dried shrimp?
@AngkorSpice8 жыл бұрын
+Khang Nguy I never actually weigh shrimp before and after, I just do it a big pot at a time . About 3 gallon bag fresh shrimp give 1 quart bag of dried shrimp clean and shell removed. I would think about maybe 12 to 15 lbs to 1 lbs dried shrimp. When shrimp season is here I will weigh the shrimp before and after to check.

Is it shrimp season already? I'm also curious

The guts are not cleaned out like how they do fish?
@AngkorSpice6 жыл бұрын
There isn't really any guts to clean out, just a vein on the back of the shrimp. It usually falls off with the shell once you smash and clean the dried shrimp.

But this looks pretty good might have to try this sometime a guy that works for me is Asian and eats sundried shrimp by its self as a snack like potato chips all the time and it smells pretty bad to

Yummy expired rotted shrimp. I never understood why you would want to sub dry shrimp when you can eat them fresh from the water like that ruins the freshness of them just eat em fresh I know it's for certain dishes but damn. I live on the Gulf of Mexico and when I need fresh shrimp I just go.to the shrimp boats and they load my cooler full of freshly caught shrimp they caught that morning and only charge me 50 bucks for a huge cooler full and it's about 25 lbs of shrimp I get
