Sun dried is way better than on a dehydrator, thank you for sharing this COOL video and I wonder if it would be better made in a Summer sun, the sun here in winter is just not hot enough, maybe it's because we're at 6,500 ft. above sea level, or instead of the 4 days in the sun, maybe 6 or 8 days? 🤔😋🍅
@GetCookingАй бұрын
you want strong sun...i dont think you can pull it off in winter sun...you also need a nice low humidity, i'd say dry days
@silverlorian62587 күн бұрын
If it takes too long because of too much humidity, you will get mold. It needs to be dry sunny heat for this. That‘s why dried tomatoes are rather made in the mediterranean, but you can try it elsewhere of course. But not in moist winter.

Thank you for sharing and you are amazing. Also, there's no difference between sun dried and oven. The oven is the same type of heat source as the sun but more controlled. What does matter is the type of tomato you use because the flavors will be slightly different, and the juiciest tomato takes a little longer to dry because the water index is higher. I like sun drying because I love watching the tomatoes slowly shrivel up and it reminds me of family reunions in Mexico and Philippines with my cousins. We would make large racks from broken shopping baskets and lay out whatever food we wanted to dry out and placed them on the roof, we also sold jars of homemade sun dried tomatoes at Native American gatherings where my family does sports dance and music. It's kinda like a Native American fair where we share our cultures and people can learn about the history of the United States and Mexico is part of the Pablo and Other tribes that migrated around the country. Also, the summer is the best time to dry foods in the sun because of the intense heat and longer days for sun exposure. The environment is important for proper food prepping. I wonder about the honey bees that pollinate your tomatoes too, they will produce very nice rich honey from the flowers of the plants. My family have lots of honey bees for pollination we have orange groves, roses and pecans as well as grapes for wine making, we used to sell tangerines on the side of the road beside our groves. People love our tangerines. We had to setup security cameras around the groves to stop thefts and vandalism. I guess they are addicted to them. I don't know. My family allowed me to give the leftovers to the homeless shelter and I made homemade jelly and jam for the homeless to take with them and I baked bread and gave loafs with the jelly and gam so they can snack on something. I miss those days. 😊 ❤ Now I can barely afford my utilities because for some reason my bill is $500 a month while neighbors only pay $99 on the same plan. I am going to figure out why the gas and water company is forcing me to pay more than everyone else. I don't even use my lights very often nor do I have lots of electronics plugged in. I am trying to figure out how to have enough food so I can afford my bills. That's why I was looking for sun dried tomato recipe and I came across your video, I thought you look like my uncle and you made a video about sun drying instead of oven. I am glad I found you. 😊 Also, I think the name of your channel is awesome. Get Cooking! Italian. ❤

After the drying process, when yiu wash the salt off and then pat dry. Obviously all the water won't dry off and thats okay yes? I live in Goa so hot weather here too. Just confirming that if a little water stays on womt spoil the tomatoes after adding the olive oil?

you need to remove the water completely, so pat them dry and if you want keep them a few mins again in direct sun light. Water is the enemy as it will start fermentation in the jar, which you dont want.
