Thanks really comprehensive and clear instruction backed up with demos. I have been eradicating a slight waiters tray aspect to my serve I think that is behind me now. You didn’t mention how Ryan has his strings facing upwards when he starts the motion. I have found this makes spin easier than having strings facing down which seems to suit the flat serve. As you have to pronate to get the topspin I find this helps to ensure I don’t slip back into any waiters tray aspect to my take back. I was using an abbreviated backswing aka Andy Roddick but I struggled to get any topspin seeing Ryan take a longer take back I realise I can do that and still pronate plus this gives more natural rhythm and I believe power. I need a consistent serve with kick with pronation especially for doubles. Something I don’t bottle out of under pressure. Thanks again love your instructions will check out your swing path video. 😊

Thanks for the kettle bell exercise. For me, the kick serve is not difficult if you have a good flat serve. That is, if you pronate well on the flat serve, the kick serve is simply tossing the ball slightly behind you and changing your swing path to hit the ball behind you. As long as you pronate correctly, your ball should kick out. The key is to have a good drop and swing just as hard as your flat serve.

I agree, if you have a good serve it shouldnt be too hard for you to develop the kick serve. Factors such as height can help with the kick serve too!

Spot on guys! Making the statement that this a very challenging serve to master and talking about stuff off the court is so much more honest than most videos out there that sugar coat it and try to make this serve more accessible to mortals. I’ve played tennis my whole life (well 10 years old & on) played HS Varsity and at 48, this serve still eludes me simply because: (A) it’s evolution as a serve really occurred after I got into it-I credit Edberg as first real big kicker guy. -and-(B) It’s really f-ing tough to master! Great video guys! P.S. Edberg’s fitness (Along with Becker) was amazing!

vectorthurm thank you for the kind words, they’re much appreciated! Glad you enjoyed the instruction. No doubt the kicker is a difficult serve to master. Hopefully the instruction provided will help break it down and make it more accessible (with lots of practice). Love the Edberg reference, he was always one of my favorite players.

Hi , I've noticed that Ryan doest pronate on his quick serve I've seen so many slow mo kick from the pros and it seems like every time they pronate and the hitting part of the racket faces the back fence every time. But Ryan's racket is facing the ground. Can you explain please if it's important? And why all the pros seems to kick serve that way

Great more advance instructions. However, it d have being more clarifying if you had record some serves facing the court sideview, I always wanted to get explanation that even if it's a circular motion, how much the racquet goes towards the net. Thanks for this amazing content you guys are releasing.

Thanks so much for the kind words. We're thrilled to hear we've been able to assist in the improvement of your game. If you have back issues a kickserve can be tricky. You can still achieve a pretty solid kick with focusing on just the hand moving from left to right and loading into the direction of the serve. We have a video coming out soon that I think will help with your question. Stay tuned!

Thanks for this great video on explaining kick serve. I wonder if next time you provide a helicopter view using Drone. My kick serve is kick but not moving forward. May be your second point in the video is correct as my hitting arm to not parallel to the baseline.......A short guy from Hong Kong.

pauamy0829 interesting thought with the drone. The overhead footage is something we’ve been giving a lot of thought. Keeping the swing path parallel to the baseline is critical for a successful kicker. Give it a go and let us know how it progresses. Thanks for the feedback and for watching!

My kick serve has good pace and kicks high and alot towads the right, but its very inconsistent, sometimes I spray it long or in the net, not sure if its my toss that gets messed up or something else.
@Playyourcourt

Alen X sometimes if the toss gets to high it can cause issues with the timing. Perhaps play with shortening the toss and even allow the ball to descend just a bit for additional spin. Thanks for watching!

What always give me trouble is how far in front and how far left to toss the ball. Sometimes I hit a great kick serve where it just feels right and kicks up to the right, but other times I feel off balance and my serve has nothing on it. I've heard you should let the toss drop a little and also like you said here you need your body going up with the toss into the court. Where should I aiming my toss so I can execute this serve consistently under pressure?
@Playyourcourt
@Playyourcourt 4 жыл бұрын
Howdy sir, great insight and question. Tossing behind you and leaning in is a concept that a lot of players struggle with at every level. The toss is often more efficient when tossing parallel to the baseline for a kickserve because of this reason. You want to toss the ball so that if you were not to hit it, it would land on your back. It will help if you lean in towards the court before jumping to assist the balls location to stay above you as well. Allowing the ball to drop just slightly will definitely help with the kick. Hope this helps, keep swinging!

Supernovasia honestly, the mechanics don’t change all that much. As the target changes, the direction of the jump and the contact with the ball varies but ultimately the biomechanics are the same. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.

Hey guys, I noticed Ryan doesn't bring his back foot up to meet his front when he springs up to serve like a lot of players do. Is that something he only does on the kick serve or all the time? He just springs up into the serve with his feet separated. Which is better? Does it matter? I hope this makes sense!
@Playyourcourt
@Playyourcourt 4 жыл бұрын
delplaya5 hi great question. Ryan serves from a platform stance. What your referring to is known as the pinpoint stance. Both stances have their advantage but ultimately they are both really effective. It simply comes down to personal preference. Federer uses platform while Monfils uses pinpoint. Both have great serves. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

LIL confused because above your head would be second serve to curve the ball into the serve box not much power so if you have the ball behind your head you would get even less power on your ball. maybe if you showed a side video shot of Ryan's serve it might help us.

I don't see a kick serve, it could just be the geometry of the court, why not have him serve in the deuce to show it actually breaks?
@Playyourcourt
@Playyourcourt 4 жыл бұрын
Mike Tung perhaps it’s the camera angle or even the geometry but if you look at the trajectory off the bounce you will see the ball striking the curtain well before it would reach its second bounce. That’s the ball breaking and breaking aggressively. We plan to release additional content with several different views to better illustrate the serve. Thanks for the feedback and for watching!

A-la Sampras finish of your guest proved to be a flop. Look at the elbow. The elbow was the key of that Sampras's serve element. Secondly, could you dwell bit more on the kick serve ball/racket contact point. Not the usual 7-13, or 8-14 o'clock, but in a 3D logic?
@vectorthurm
@vectorthurm 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I noticed that, but even though he doesn’t have the classic Sampras finish doesn’t prove him as a flop. I would not like to see the video of me trying to return any of Ryan’s serves😆
@Playyourcourt
@Playyourcourt 4 жыл бұрын
Omar Sultanov A D1 serve is a flop? The major take away in that segment was emphasizing the importance of focusing on the racquet head (tip) facing down. The reference to Sampras was simply to provide a visual. Granted Ryan’s elbow didn’t stay up but that wasn’t necessarily the goal. We plan to release an overhead view of the serve, hopefully that provides the details you’re looking for regarding the contact point. Thanks for watching.
