Made these the other day, no machine to roll them, just kneaded them for a count of 50! They turned out fabulous, even the icing glaze was perfect. Watching a video is the best as you can see exactly how these are made. Thanks so much. They are already gone! Yum!

Nonna is beautiful! Thank you Nonna for sharing your recipe and knowledge. Rosella, please let Nonna talk more and ask her questions. We’re interested! We don’t want these stories and experience to get lost. The point I think she was making about the resting is that because of the baking powder in the mixture, the rest time allows the baking powder to activate and the dough to rise a little before the boiling.

Another great video. I love these recipes. Every Time we visited different regions of Italy we are treated to different types of treat and this was one of them but didn't know what they were. Fantastic!

I enjoy your cooking with Nonna and Iove your recipes. I have made a few, but most of all I love your Nonna. My grandmother was also from brooklyn and everyone loved her cooking. Your family is very blessed to have her. Please keep on sharing your recipes.

Nona Romana, molto grazie for showing us how to make these, and sharing your secrets. This is my childhood. I always loved them and cannot find them anywhere, anymore. Now I can try to make them.

I wish I could bottle and preserve the patience and effort that our grandparents put into what they believed in. Sadly, things are always rushed.....With time and patience, perfection. I love to watch your Nonna.....she reminds me of how my Grandmother used to do things. :-)

I totally agree....I used to get really bummed out when things didn't come out 'right'...I'm not as hard on myself lately....ok, next time we'll try it a little different. :-)

just wanted to let you and nonna romana know i FINALLY got brave enough to try the sugar glaze! omg the tarralli tasted so much better than using the powder sugar/milk method my nonna used,i dont think i will ever do it that way again.hope my nonna up in heaven approved of me changing her recipe lol.thanks again and keep the videos coming.

My family is from Bari, well part of them heheh. I'm from Brazil and I loved the recipe cuz we are very familiar with tarallo but didn't had any recipe. I'll try it one day congrats.

rossella,thanks to you and nonna for the video!! my nonna made these every easter and i do them now that she is gone. my nonna never did the frosting like that though,she used powder sugar/milk.i guess that was the americanized version lol. i never saw it done like this and cant wait to try.i HOPE mine come half as good as your nonnas!.btw mine never raise this much either but my nonnas did and our recipe has no baking powder or any other leavining besides the eggs. only difference is my nonna boiled them and let them dry overnite before baking(right on the oven rack no pan)gonna try this and the sugar frosting,wish me luck!!keep the videos coming!! btw my family emigrated from montefalcone de valfortore,a provence of benevento but our food mirrors your pugliese heritage almost identically!

Aww thank you! My Nonna says we are all made from the same dough!! Nonna's icing technique is famous in Brooklyn! Lol Her sister in law taught her and all her friend ask her to teach them! I'm glad we finally documented it. It's coats the Taralli with the perfect amount of sugar!!

Hi there Rossella, my own nonna is no longer with us, and I have found her recipes again with your videos...so thank you very much!! Only thing is, can you advise measures in grams as well? it's difficult for me to understand lbs and cups...thanks again!

fiorella nero aww I am so glad to hear that!! 😀 This recipe is actually measured in grams in my new cookbook that just came out. I get asked to measure in grams a lot but it's very difficult for me being in America. I try to do most things by weight though, so if you have an electronic scale that converts it is very easy

Just like my grandma use to make. She was Maschcitan. We have tried to make her recipe for over 50 years. This was the closest I could find. Thank you and God Bless. Gale The only difference I remember was she shaped the taralli with her hands to fan them out. The cutting of the taralli is much easier. In Italy did they use a plain All purpose flour or did they add semolina to the taralli?
