Jay, I’m sorry if I sound “!!???!???!?!” but as I watch and listen to choose a dish to make, gather the ingredients, and combine them all with your skill to create a brilliant masterpiece.....it’s as if you deeply love each and every part of your creation and it’s not JUST cabbage, onions, peppers, and bacon with your skills.... It’s like watching a beautiful love story that you never want to end. Sincerely, Sheila

I'm from the south and my family prepares cabbage very similar. The difference is we pre-cut the bacon before we fry it, add the onions while the bacon fries, don't remove them and the cabbage when the bacon is done! oh and I think the sugar must be a northern thing. lol we add it to collards but not cabbage. either way looks delicious! I'm a fan!

i dont use sugar...Cabbage and peppers naturally get sweeter as you cook them and the bacon adds a bit more sweetness. Looks good though Phillyboy
@toniturner3478
@toniturner3478 5 жыл бұрын
James Corvus it’s not just about the sweetness. What he calls little burnt pieces is merely caramelization. You are correct that the peppers and onions become sweeter. The sugar just helps in the caramelizing process. It’s optional. Also many of us people of color tend to appreciate some things more on the sweet vs. savory side.

Very good cabbage. I learn to cook cabbage from my mom. I am 73 years young.The one thing I was tough you do not need any water to start the cooking process. Cabbage make its own liquid. With just another thing to the pot.Little salt, and no sugar.Only if making sweet and sour. Cabbage. Bit there is something that can be used.and it's Red and juicy.Thats all the sweetness I need. Love you Philly Boy . I am from Philadelphia to. GOD BLESS YOU.keep up the good Cooking.,

I like cabbage so this looks great. And since I’m the only one because my moms gone I’ll get to eat this by myself, lol. Great job. And it’s heathy because the grease from the bacon is not much. Peppers and cabbage are good for you.

M R you know you can steam it how ever long you need to I never use water and don’t cut the stems off ( I cut it smaller too) they have a lot water in them ... it never comes out hard... but water and stock is respectively good if folks prefer 😉

There's so many good things that can be added to this! ;-) Last time I made this I added a large handful of fresh asparagus spears cut up, a couple large handfuls of sliced okra, creole seasoning, 3 sliced hot links and some apple cider vinegar. Had a hard time knowing when to stop eaten! ;-)
