I'm from the south and my family prepares cabbage very similar. The difference is we pre-cut the bacon before we fry it, add the onions while the bacon fries, don't remove them and the cabbage when the bacon is done! oh and I think the sugar must be a northern thing. lol we add it to collards but not cabbage. either way looks delicious! I'm a fan!

i dont use sugar...Cabbage and peppers naturally get sweeter as you cook them and the bacon adds a bit more sweetness. Looks good though Phillyboy
@toniturner34785 жыл бұрын
James Corvus it’s not just about the sweetness. What he calls little burnt pieces is merely caramelization. You are correct that the peppers and onions become sweeter. The sugar just helps in the caramelizing process. It’s optional. Also many of us people of color tend to appreciate some things more on the sweet vs. savory side.

Very good cabbage. I learn to cook cabbage from my mom. I am 73 years young.The one thing I was tough you do not need any water to start the cooking process. Cabbage make its own liquid. With just another thing to the pot.Little salt, and no sugar.Only if making sweet and sour. Cabbage. Bit there is something that can be used.and it's Red and juicy.Thats all the sweetness I need. Love you Philly Boy . I am from Philadelphia to. GOD BLESS YOU.keep up the good Cooking.,
