My Mom was a Southern Belle, who could shame everyone who dared to compare their cooking against hers. Growing up, all my friends pleaded to come spend the weekend at my house just so they could pig out on her cooking. I'm 56, and sadly my Mom passed away 3 years ago from Alzheimer's. To this day, there are a very few people who could cook as well as my Mom. You Mrs Tammy, have the honor of now being in that very small group of people whose cooking is as good as my Mom's. Your fried cabbage brought back fond memories from when I was a kid in South Carolina on my Grandma's farm. We'd have fried cabbage with homemade smoked sausage, and honey cornbread with bacon bits, and cheese grits. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to more videos and good Southern cooking from you. 😍😁😘

Nice Carolina memories you were blessed to have a Fab mom. I am in Chicago, but I had a landlady lived to 100y who was from Arkansas and cooked the best soul food ever !! I can still taste her ham hocks, smoked turkey, greens, neck bones, yams, cornbread, peach cobbler, etcetera. Her name.... Mrs. Elmoe Greer, June 1918--May 2019. She is a great spirit !💓

Actually, my friend that is Polish, he uses 3 tablespoons of garlic, 16 ounces of sour cream with a 3 pound cabbage, chopped up in pieces, one medium onion, pepper, and a little and a little salt for taste. You can always use more when it’s done and we use egg noodles extrawide makes the whole thing together put it in a half sheet pan. Little numb And sprinkle it over the top with Parmesan cheese and mozzarella put it in the oven at 300 Fahrenheit for 45 minutes covered with foil and the last five minutes that it cooks take the foil off until the cheese gets bubbly. It’s almost like having a Polish lasagna without tomato sauce lol delicious doesn’t last too long in the house. That’s a great thing and it’s very good for you but I’m just saying all Polish people use different stuff and it’s all good. Have a good day off. Yum Yum.😊

I grew up in a small southern town and my best friend had a black maid who cooked for him while his parents worked. I would often eat with him during summer vacation. This woman could cook perfectly. I don't know how else to explain it. In my life time I have never found a person who could cook like this lady. She once told me that black people cook from the heart. I truly believe that. Why else would you get such mouthwatering dishes. I can understand soul cooking and it is outstanding good!

I have been craving this dish lately! Now to make myself go to the grocery, even as scary as that is right now. The best and easiest way to core cabbage, and get out some frustration is this...take the head of cabbage, hold firmly with both hands, then with the core facing downward, bring it down firmly and whack it on the counter. Done! All you do is flip it over and pull out the core, cleanly and very efficient.

So I'm watching Chef Tammy make this beautiful and wonderful Fried Cabbage, and because of the way Tammy explains and creates this gem, and the way each step was accompanied by continuous filming, there came a moment where the peppers and onions were dancing in the bacon rendering grease, and I honestly was so attentive, I could nearly taste her creation..! I have made this dish myself, and it is wonderful. Thank you, Tammy...!!

I'm going to be the white guy here and say it; damn, damn, damn, that looks incredibly delicious. I was fortunate enough as a child to live in a part of Stockton, CA, and had a wonderful experience in eating soul food from a few friend's families. Some of the best dishes I have ever had growing up. Don't say poor, we were all poor in our neighborhood, but rich in food, and to me, that was everything; some of the best memories I have of that time came from those families and around the food they served and shared with me. ; ) I'll definitely add this one to my recipe list.

Mr Hydden, great comment. I spent my later adult years in the east bay. (Earlier years in New Orleans in poverty.) Stockton has Mexican food! I remember driving down the valley to eat lengua and to die for chicharrones in Palmdale. I learned to cook at SF Zen Center. While these foods are undoubtedly delicious, they look like heart attacks waiting to happen. Using powdered garlic when Gilroy has garlic galore? Fresh ground pepper isn't that hard to come by. I'm a vegetarian but there are many ways to cook and vegetables and spices make the difference.

Wonderful, I'll share this with my mom. She loves fried cabbage and will love this recipe. In my tribe in Kenya, we substitute the bacon for beef, mutton, or goat meat (because fresh meat is cheaper than bacon here). We fry the meat and veges before adding in the cabbage and a little cilantro at the end. Then we serve with our version of cornbread called ugali.

The red color in the dish makes it look more intysing and I'm sure that it changes the taste of the dish as well. I will be making your virgin of the dish this weekend. As one of your others viewers stateted, this would go good with some black eyed peas and cornbread. I'll take it a little further and add some yams or potato salad with it. Thanks.☺
