I'm from north of New Orleans and, in the 1950s, my aunt made this cake using mahaw jelly. She got three layers from each pan so the cake was six layers. It was heavenly. Thanks for sharing.

Tyrone, I just asked my husband who's from DELAWARE :) if his mom ever made a jelly cake. He said yes. "When we didn't have anything for Breakfast, we'd eat cake until it was ALL gone! ME: "Well buddy, your mom didn't know how to make it better than my mom!!" We're Southerners and, that's one in a million things we are better at, Mister! I'm from the (504), "THE BIG EASY," BABY! Got on KZbin, and, look who I found, Tyrone, A SOUTHERN MAN, who did it right!!! Thanks, Tyrone for making my night!!!!

When I was a kid, my grandmother made this cake every Christmas. . . She made the cake layers about half the size of a regular cake and stacked them six layers high . . . She used an old school jelly that was called " Rex Jelly " that dates back to the 1930s but became hard to find by the late late 70s when I was a kid . . . Rex Jelly was a very thin jelly that was transparent much like Kool-Aid and bright red in color with consistency that was a little heavier than syrup with a raspberry/ apple flavor ! When Rex Jelly was unable to be found by 1980, she mixed apple and raspberry jelly together to duplicate the Rex Jelly flavor . . . And til this day , it's still one of my favorite cakes 😋 🥮
