It depends for me on how I cook it. I like my bacon very crisp so on my Blackstone without a press I will flip multiple times. On my Blackstone with my 18"x24" see thru press bacon cooks a lot faster so only one flip. Most of the time I cook my bacon in the over @375° for 30-35 minutes no flips perfect every time. Those are my favorite ways.

Since I also have a Weber 36" Genesis natural gas grill, a Traeger Pro 780 pellet smoker, a 22" Kettleman Char Broiler charcoal grill and a free standing utility sink w/ sprayer...When my 36" griddle isn't use, I place a 48" x 24" x 3/4" poly board on top of the Blackstone to use as an outdoor utility table. If you take your burger smasher and smash the hamburger all you can, then put your spatula down on the hamburger, and then use the smasher on top of the spatula. WALTWINS thank you so much for the replies, love the channel, learning a lot. Hate to ask another question but I’m planning on seasoning today and given what you’ve learned and your above response, would you still go with canola for the seasoning?
@waltwins4 жыл бұрын
What an excellent question! You know, before, I was kind of agains flax seed, just because it’s harder to find. I happened to find some at Walmart, and have used it to reseason, and it really is an excellent choice. I find the higher smoke point gives it a strong cooking surface, and while it still will flake over time, it may last a bit longer. However, I’d have no problem continuing with Canola, even grape, vegetable oil etc. 🤙🤙

Something I discovered that people seem to love...I pre cook the bacon and rough chop it. That keeps you from pulling off a whole piece when you bite. I leave the bacon slightly undercooked and toss it in the griddle before putting it on the burger.

Brian Heaney thanks so much for watching - agree. If you see after the bacon is cooked, the burners were cranked. This was the first cook on the new Blackstone and it cooked cooler - the only reason we kept the vid, is because we still came away with a sear that kept the juices, and it was delicious. i'm wondering if having the air fryers on is lowering the propane going to the griddle, on mine (no air fryer) if i was on the heat setting you were on for that amount of time my bacon would be black. It didn't seem to be getting very hot, did you find it much hotter when you seasoned it? looks like a good season so i assume so. Welcome to the club, i'm sure you will love it, all i do is watch blackstone videos and cook :) it is taking over my life!!!!!
@waltwins4 жыл бұрын
Haha! I hear you! Are you in any of the FaceBook groups? I spend way too much time looking at what everyone is cooking! The flame is just below the griddle, and the air fryers are below those flames. After the initial cook here, the heat has been perfect. Not sure if it was because this was the first cook, but I was wondering why it was taking so long. Love this thing, I cook on it almost daily, and used if for all three meals yesterday for Mother’s Day! Thanks so much man!🤙
@smokeyduck97334 жыл бұрын
I was so confused about that too. All his burners were set on high, and on my Blackstone those burgers would have been ready to flip in a little over a minute with a much better sear on them if it was set to high. Also, after he smashed them he gave it a little while and moved all the patties around. You won't get that good crust if you do that. Don't touch them until they're ready to flip
@waltwins4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I’m loving what I’m learning with this thing! Getting used to it all has been a blast - thanks so much for the comment!🤙
@smokeyduck97334 жыл бұрын
Regardless they still looked delicious! One other tip I'll throw in is using a different burger press. If you use one that is completely flat (and preferably kind of heavy like cast iron) you get better down pressure and the sear will be much better. But like I said, I'm sure they still tasted phenomenal!

We are a one turn an done group. One tip I would make is once you have your burger the flatness you want don't press it down again. It allows the juices to stay in the meat. Also if they bow up press a small dent in the middle before you turn. That is just my opinion. We also love our burgers a little thicker but I know that is not a smash burger. Man, I want to get one of these someday! Crank that heat to get a better sear and hold the fat in. Cooking on low renders out the fat and moisture vs. high heat especially for the smash, the caramelization from the smash forces them to rise up and that's when you flip it to seal it inside!

Great video! Love the channel. I have the same model blackstone. It’s awesome! I have had it a few months now and went through some propane! Lol. I know this video is a year old but I wanted to point something out. Since I have that same model I see here you had yours on high a lot. I found that if you light all the burners at once there is something that slows the propane flow way way down. It happened twice on my grill with half a bottle of propane. Read somewhere it’s possibly a safety thing to not flow that much propane at once. the regulator stops it. Not really sure but I changed to a full tank to see and it happened again. The fix was to light them one or two at a time. Then adjust. The flames get really high and hot when it’s right. Barely past low when it’s not no matter where the dial is set. When it happened the griddle wasn’t getting hot and it was strange. You can definitely tell the difference when it’s working right. The air fryer model and the pro series get really really hot. After watching your video I said there is no way on high for a while can I get close to the griddle to smash burgers. That bacon would be black in 5 minutes. I have to go to medium to smash burgers and still get that crust. I’m watching your awesome video and seeing burners on high and it’s not looking very hot. That model gets really really hot fast! Todd will tell ya too! Also that model uses a high flow of propane with the air friers and all going that blackstone doesn’t recommend the natural gas kit for it. Propane burns three times hotter than Natural Gas they say. So the poor thing might not get hot enough. I love mine and have gotten two more! 22 e series and two burner adventure series. They have helped me lose 30 lbs in too months. They are amazing 🤩. My two cents! Happy Griddling !!

Griddle temp for Smashburgers?
@waltwins2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching! This particular cook was not coming up to temp, but you want the griddle hot! We set our Blackstone to medium high heat (because it cooks really hot - high isn’t necessary) - we say over 400 degrees will get you a good sear!🤙🤙

Great job Adam! The burgers came out great! Like the two cheeses. I’m really going to Look into getting one. How do you clean it?
@waltwins4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much man! It’s actually really easy - it’s more of a scraping of the angering stuck on, wipe down, and then you re-season it with a layer of oil when it cools down, rub the oil in and cover it. I’ll eventually do a tutorial for cleaning - those really helped me to learn!
@BBBYpsi4 жыл бұрын
To make those real smash burgers do not keep pressing with the spatula. You do that your pressing the juices out of them. You get that really good sear is why you put it on high then when juices bubble out of top you turn them once only. The reason some of the bacon was cooking faster is because you put a few slices over where you have the burner turned off. If your gonna use almost all of the space you need to have all three burners on.
@waltwins4 жыл бұрын
You are correct! This was the first cook after seasoning the griddle, and the heat was a little less predictable. I also didn’t expect the patties to be so thick at first, but since this video, have got it down, following the technique you mentioned, plus the addition of a bacon press which has helped with a good quiz press, allowing me to get my meat cooked in less than 4 minutes. Thank you for the advice!🤙
