I'm pretty sure it's from the string he used to wrap called sinew. I saw a tutorial that used it and it created really clean lines

It’s due to the twine which you use: Kite twine is necessary for its high tension required when tying. This is what makes it look so clean, also the soda ash helps wash any surplus dye, = less bleeding. I think 😉

I've been doing tie dyes for 25 years I cannot do any of the designs you guys do You just blow me away when my youngest was a senior in high school he would only wear tie dyes so I taught myself how to do them

I'm starting to get into tie dye and my favorite thing about it right now is when I sit around not tie dyeing and go "I wonder if I folded it this way or twisted it this way and instead of doing I pattern I just draw a diamond in the middle and go around it with different colors and......" moments where I just think of random things I can do and see what the results are

Spot on. I regard myself as a Medium level tiedyer, am i'm trying to move towards being an Advanced level dyer, like this. With this, its dye penetration, getting your folds right and taking your time. You're going to fail a lot - shirts like these take 20 plus hours to dye, so don't be afraid to fail!
