Many years ago I spent my summers in Rhossili, Gower, staying with a lovely lady. When she prepared lava bread, after boiling it, she made patties and rolled them in rolled oats before frying them. I really enjoyed harvesting the seaweed from Mewslade Bay. I am an American with Welsh ancestry. I felt so at home in Wales. Judy Hopkins

I used to hate lava-bread as a child, but now it is absolutely amazing stuff. The only thing I would say to any one new trying it is to ensure it's as fresh as possible. It's one of those things that's absolutely amazing when it's done right but will put you off for life if not. Cockles and Lava-bread are just something pretty special and I would say gets better the more you eat it.

So hard to buy this in South Wales (even without lockdown). I love it, but I add oats to my laverbread. Tinned is great, fresh from the market is mind blowing with the cockles and smoked bacon, love this, thank you

True, English tastes far too greasy and feels like unhealthy lead when you eat it. Black pudding is the best part of an English breakfast.
