I don't remember how my grandmother would do it but she made beautiful things like chokers, crosses, roses, and other things. If she looks at something she could make it. She would even crochet with beads. I would do it for a bit but my grandfather would have his fishing poles and I would go fishing instead. I can make some awesome fisherman knots. But she could knit, crochet, tat, and many other things.

Okay, I have to say: you really surprised me. I've been doing kumihimo for more than a decade now, the kind where you use a wooden marudai and weighted spools and silk thread and so forth, and I initially kind of looked at the title of this with kind of a "Yeah, kumihimo? She may *think* so, but..." I still would say that what you're doing is closer to the handwoven South American patternwork, but that stitch is definitely a simple kumihimo pattern, and the work is lovely. I wouldn't want to try a 16-spool Genshi pattern with beads (I'd lose my mind, it's hard enough with just silk) but your necklaces are beautiful and worth the work. Thank you!

hello I recently finished the black & rainbow teal necklace and I love it! however, I would very much like one that is red & black or red & white. how many tubes of each color would I have to buy in order to make the full necklace. I want to know before hand cause I don't want to have to stop and wait to get more beads. Thanks!
@beadaholique8 жыл бұрын
For your "focal color" you will need 2 tubes (possibly 3 depending on your length). For the "main color" you will need 4 tubes (possibly 5 depending on your length). Since the tubes are not the "quantities" we use for the kits, I would err on the side of safety in having more. I know how frustrating it is to get half way done with a project and have to stop because you need to order more.
@elisadallomo7 жыл бұрын
When you say "tubes" you're talking about the 8 gram tubes, right? So for the focal color we'd need 16-24 grams and the main color, 32-40 grams..?

We can sell and ship our kumi necklace kits internationally, you can see a list of countries we currently ship to here: www.beadaholique.com/support-center/help-shipping If you don't see yours on the list I'd suggest emailing our customer service, it is sometimes possible for us to add countries. If we're not able to ship directly to you some of our customers use a package forwarding company such as www.viabox.com to get a US address that we can ship to.

I would like to order but the website does not say the size of the beads. Also I would like to know the quantity of each color of beads.
@rebeccajns8 жыл бұрын
Hi Prakash, the size seed beads Kat used were Toho 8/0. The project will take 40-45 grams in total. But because beads are measured by weight when u purchase them, it's always a "Rough guesstimate" So, I personally would make sure to have 50 grams for the project. That will give you enough with a few grams left over. U don't wanna run yourself short so you have enough to complete your project. So, Basically there's 40 beads per gram (if your using toho brand) and it's an 8 warp project. So u multiple the 40 beads times the 8 strands. That equals 320 beads for the first 6 inches of the project. Then multiple those 320 beads by 5 (because it's a 30 inch necklace & its done in 5 separate intervals. Again, each interval being 6 inches long).. If you search on Beadaholique website they have the kits & refill kits for a really good price. I hope this is able to help you. :) If u have any questions, I'm always happy to help. (if I can) lol... :)

The beads are all 8/0 tohos. By purchasing one of the kits you'll get all the beads and other supplies necessary to complete one necklace at a discounted price.

We use a camcorder with a long 30x optical lens which helps us get very clear close up shots of the beads that's difficult to do with a phone or DSLR camera. Careful lighting also helps, you want to make sure that your lights are coming from an angle that won't cast any shadows on the beads.

Hey, there! I recently found about Beadaholique and have been binge watching a ton of tutorials. I LOVE this pattern and I'd love to adapt it to a bracelet. Any suggestions? Many thanks!
@beadaholique4 жыл бұрын
Hey Caroline, welcome to the channel! So we haven't tried this sort of gradated pattern as a bracelet, but what springs to mind is doing it as a wrap bracelet using slightly smaller 10/0 beads. You really want length for this pattern so the gradation can happen slowly and you get a lot of that blended look. Take a look at this video we did for another kumi kit of ours, I think if you apply the pattern to this style of bracelet it'd be lovely: beadaholique.com/products/instructions-for-making-the-beaded-kumihimo-wrap-bracelet-kit

Thank you for this. I have a question, though. How do you keep it from stretching out after you've woven it together? Are you using a heavy weight in order to "pull" the braid down? I am finding I get different lengths with different types of cords and weights and am rather lost :)
@beadaholique2 жыл бұрын
For this project we are using Super Lon Nylon thread, size 18 (0.5mm). We recommend pre-stretching the cord just a bit. This can simply be done by wrapping some thread around your index finger and gently pulling the other end with your opposite hand. You should stretch about a foot at a time or so. You can find the S-Lon thread here: beadaholique.com/search?type=product&q=S-Lon

Hi, I just started today with this bracelet but I can do it wright😢...my thread keeps showing threw.! What am I doing wrong? I use 8/0 and same cord but the beads don't even touch correctly I did the 1/3th off the bracelet but I can stop because this isn't working *Help* (in bed now for about 6 to 8 hours than I can respond) if needed, thank you Bianca
@beadaholique Жыл бұрын
Hi! If your thread is showing, I am guessing it's a tension issue with the cord. Do you have some sort of weight on the bottom of your thread knot? It sounds like perhaps the beads are not sinking down properly or the thread is too loose so it's creating gaps causing the thread to show. I hope some of this helps. If you do have a weight on your threads, how heavy is it (approximately)?

I would love to learn this technique for western hat bands. I use a loom but would like to offer more variety for my business. I generally use size 11/0 seed beads. Would the mini disk work better for this? Have you had any experience in using seed beads with this technique? Thank you!
@beadaholique2 жыл бұрын
We have not made any western hat bands using the Kumihimo technique, but we imagine it would work well. If you're working with 8 warps or less, the regular size and mini disk will work. If you plan on using more than 8 warps a larger disc will work better. Thanks so much!

i think that you can make the same necklace with another way by crochet beading ?? and it will be more easy and have a lot of patterns
@beadaholique8 жыл бұрын
Yes you could make a very similar necklace by crocheting, it's mostly a matter of preference. We've seen a lot of interest in the kumihimo projects we've shared over the years so we like to offer kumi kits for designs like this.
@NoOoDYSAMO8 жыл бұрын
i really like this way so much but can i make another pattern by this way + this one the circle is 8 beads can it be more than 8 ? cause in crochet beading if the pattern is more than 10 beads it's getting tough and not fixable
@hannahprindiville78255 жыл бұрын
Could you do this ombré type pattern but made into a bracelet? Just trying to figure out how you would adjust the pattern? I’m thinking a bracket would roughly be a 1/3 or 1/4 of the necklace? If you have a pattern for that I would love it!
@beadaholique5 жыл бұрын
Regrettably, we do not have a bracelet with an adjusted pattern, but we have a similar bracelet project available here: www.beadaholique.com/heavy-metals-rock-kumihimo-bracelet.html Thanks for watching!

When you start can’t you just do 4-14 foot strands and just cut them in half or is it just faster to do 8-7 foot strands?
@beadaholique4 жыл бұрын
Cutting strands in half like that is a good method. It can be faster for a lot of people, but that can depend on other things too like their range of motion and how big of a space they have to work in. The thing that effects speed the most is practice really, both methods can be very fast after a few years of crafting.

Oh, just a thought, I marked the numbers on the bobbins with a sharpie marker, the fine tipped one, you could use the other one too. It comes off with alcohol in case you want to change the numbers.

Can we do it using 8/O size beads and beadlanding transite cord. I tried with these but braid is not coming as expected. Please advise
@beadaholique8 жыл бұрын
8/Os are the right size so I think the transite cord is the problem. We haven't tried doing kumihimo with it here in our design space, but monofilament cords like that can have difficultly holding in traditional knots because the material is so slippery. I'd recommend a twisted nylon chord, this is what we use in the kits: www.beadaholique.com/beadsmtih-super-lon-cord-size-18-twisted-nylon-turquoise-77-yard-spool.html

Is there a way to use 4 colors with this design? Like just do the pattern part 3 times and the 4th color would be the center part and repeat it going back up?
@beadaholique6 жыл бұрын
That could look very cool! Not sure how the beads would divide to get the graduated look. Might take some trial and error but worth it!

У вас катушки подписаны. Имеет значение как ставить в пары собранные нити ? You have coils signed. Does it matter how to pair the assembled threads?

To make it flexible which thread should we use. It getting stiff when I used wild fire.
@beadaholique6 жыл бұрын
This kit/tutorial does not use Wildfire, it uses BeadSmith Super-Lon (S-Lon) Cord - Size 18 Twisted Nylon 0.5mm thick: www.beadaholique.com/catalogsearch/result/?type=simple&q=BeadSmith+Super-Lon+%28S-Lon%29+Cord+-+Size+18+Twisted+Nylon You could try Stretch Magic Clear Stretchy Cord 0.5mm: www.beadaholique.com/stretch-magic-clear-stretchy-cord-5mm-019-inch-width-10-meters.html

Hi Emily! Yes, the pattern will work. It will simply spiral in the opposite direction.

I noticed that u start at the bottom of the disk and go bottom left up, top right down. Does it matter if you start at 32 and go top left down bottom right up? you also turn to the right, can you turn to your left?
@beadaholique8 жыл бұрын
@PennyCandy108 жыл бұрын
Great pattern .. About how much time would it take to complete this length ?
@beadaholique8 жыл бұрын
Depends on how quickly you work but I would estimate it around 6-8 hours of work. It's a great project to start and leave off if you have to walk away. Just move one strand up as shown in the video so you don't lose your place.

What size of seed beads are these? I originally bought the blue and rose gold, but I want to order from you guys and do another, but not in the colours you offer.

I absolutely love this necklace, normally I make different kinds of beading jewellery. I would like to make it with the beads that I already purchased from this shop. I have everything I, the disc enz I was just wondering, are all strands stung the same way as the first that you did you did in the in the tutorial? Or do really need to by the refill kid as well ? Greetings from Belgium, Sindy 😉

😆😆 refill kit
@beadaholique8 жыл бұрын
The strands are not all strung identically. We decided not to show the stringing of each strand because it would have made the video 50 or 60 minutes long but we've included a write-up of the pattern in the video description here on KZbin. If you click "Show More" beneath the video's text and scroll to the bottom you'll see the stringing pattern.
