On a side note, the log-polar coordinate system (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Log-pol...) also uses this kind of transformation. It has various applications, e.g. in image processing where the density of squares in the grid correlates with the density of light receptors on the retina.

Nonfictional Yeti, it wasn't that hard to follow. Now I don't say that there isn't a lot of things going on and it's hard if you don't know it all. I certainly don't, and I studied half of this shit. If you really want to learn more math, KhanAcademy , 3blue1brown , blackpenredpen are good channels to check out, oh and also what's his name? Eddie Woo. KhanAcademy has a comprehensive video lesson library pertaining to Math, from the ground up. 3Blue1Brown uses pretty graphics to ease the understanding of complex problems with relatively simple solutions. blackpenredpen (yes no capital letters) talks about derivation and integration and shows examples of math problems and how to solve them. Using many different methods. Eddie Woo talks about numbers and math in a classroom environment, so it is like you are being taught in class, but without a boring teacher, how to tackle math problems in general and so on. Good Luck with your learning.

Well, this is Minetest and the source code is publicly available. So if you know what you're doing it wouldn't be too hard to hack the map generation to create various sphere shaped land masses floating in air that each have their own gravity. The build limits in Minetest are -31000 and +31000 so unlike Minecraft's -256 and +256 you have TONS of space to work with. If I knew more about how Minetest's internals worked I'd immediately start writing some new code to implement those features.
@lolalucxyz
@lolalucxyz 6 жыл бұрын
The thing is that that's not shaders. That's terrain generation. Also I'd really like to see how you build a solid sphere out of cubes without breaking reality. At the very least things break down at the center. And that isn't even mentioning that the blocks won't fit in the grid that these worlds are based on, so we are looking at a complete rewrite.
@RealLifeKyurem

So... If you want to map the Minecraft flat Euclidean voxel world to a hyperbolic world instead of an elliptical world, would one need to use: "r_p * e ^ ((x + yj)/r_p)" where j = sqrt(1) instead "r_p * e ^ ((x + yi)/r_p)" where i = sqrt(-1)? Oh, for j = sqrt(1) is the imaginary unit for what are known as "split complex numbers"...

But what about making a cube shaped planet?
@theLuigiFan0007Productions
@theLuigiFan0007Productions 6 жыл бұрын
Just add local gravity to the center of a cube shaped mass of blocks. When you walk off the edge you get attracted to the new edge you're walking on.
@jerrb7991
@jerrb7991 6 жыл бұрын
theLuigiFan0007 gravity force is always directed to the centre of mass of the Planet, so u will have Cube shaped planet, but with sphere shaped gravity field. There would be 6 isolated facades with a sort of dome (the atmosfere) above it and the edges of the cube without atmosfere. Sorry for Mu bad english
@theLuigiFan0007Productions
@theLuigiFan0007Productions 6 жыл бұрын
That sounds about right. The gravity would indeed be a bit strange to say the least, but it'd make for interesting gameplay too. Also, depending on the thickness of the "atmosphere", as you said, the edge might touch the corners and they'd have no atmosphere. Or if you made it thick enough to be above them it would end up being much thicker on the flat sides due to the fact you put a spherical atmosphere on a square planet. Your English is actually fairly good, and I can understand it about as good as anyone else's. There's only a few notable thing I'd recommend you do differently. Using "you" is more proper then "u" when referring to someone, although people commonly use that abbreviation. The second thing is that "atmosfere" is spelled "atmosphere" (ph usually makes a "f" sound, think of the atmosphere being a sphere, so you spell it like "atmo" and "sphere"). The last thing is that you said "mu" at the end instead of "my" when you said you were sorry for your bad English. Besides those three things I wouldn't worry too much about it though. You seem to understand English fairly well and can effectively communicate what you wanted to say. only a few minor spelling errors. Just keep working at it and you'l only get better with time. Commenting on the internet and reading what others say is a easy way to practice and learn. Have a nice day!

theLuigiFan0007 The gravity would pull the mass from all sides to force the cube into a spherical shape.
@theLuigiFan0007Productions
@theLuigiFan0007Productions 6 жыл бұрын
Well, no it wouldn't in this situation. In real life, yes it would happen, but not in Minetest or Minecraft. It's because the blocks attach to each other in such a way as only user actions, explosions or machines (if you have mods installed for that) would be able to remove them. Gravity only affects movable blocks like sand/gravel and entities like players and items. Items dropped on the ground might have a tendency to try moving to one sit a bit if you were near the corners of said cube. This oddity wouldn't effect sand/gravel as they only fall down towards the block below, but the rate at which they do will be effected by where you are on the cube.

Very interesting, how would things like, dropping stuff out of inventory, shooting an arrow, or shooting a TNT cannon work? Would it be effected?
@theLuigiFan0007Productions
@theLuigiFan0007Productions 6 жыл бұрын
For arrows, I'd assume do to the nature of this modification they'd curve around the edges no problem, because the coordinates are also curved as it follows them. I can test that though, I just downloaded the source code and I'm going to build it. Don't remember if the arrows mod is included by default so I may need to grab that as well. I'l respond with another comment when I have the results. As for the cannon however, I'v never been able to build a functioning TNT cannon in Minetest. It just blows up. XD
@EllipticGeometry
@EllipticGeometry 6 жыл бұрын
No. This is just some post-processing to make the world _look_ spherical. Well, circular, because that’s all the math covered. A direct 3D analog wouldn’t even be very coherent, with perspective-dependent variable aspect ratio in the horizontal plane. And then what are you going to do once you get all the way around the world? In 2D, you could at least actually make it repeat, although as post-processing of a large world it would cause aliasing with many parts of the world occupying the same space. In 3D, there’s nothing sensible that doesn’t undermine the spherical nature.
@randomacountboy
@randomacountboy 6 жыл бұрын
It might be possible to orbit the planet once depending on the angle and velocity you fire at as well as the circumference of the planet but I think that the ratio between the planet's acceleration and the height of the arrow would achieve the same effect as firing an arrow in the regular world of minecraft. If you shot straight up then it would fall back to a spherical planet at the same time as the flat planet. This is because the acceleration would change as a function of height where the acceleration towards the planet increased as a function of height. It might appear to travel a greater distance than an arrow on the flat planet, but it would just be an illusion because the ratio between distance and height would stay the same. It would basically travel the same number of blocks, those blocks just appear bigger and bigger the farther away from them you get.

Mesa Meme Radio If you want to learn about complex numbers, you'd need to know trigonometry first. Depending on where you're at in math, you should either learn in 9th or 10th grade. But the basis of trig is pretty easy if a little unintuitive at first, so you could probably learn about it in a Khan academy video right now if you want to.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Minecraft. The math is completely complex, and without a solid grasp of TRIGGERnometry most of the math will go over a typical player's head. There's also Notch's 3D outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from a not so popular game ,for instance. Khan academy understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just boring- they say something deep about Math. As a consequence people who dislike Minecraft truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Notch's game catchphrase "Uuhhh" when you get hurt, which itself is a cryptic reference to the roblox death sound. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as 3blue1brown's genius unfolds itself on their computer screens. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Minecraft tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the meme' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

I've thought about what it would take to put a tesselated voxel space on the surface of an actual torus. If you have a certian acceptable scale tolerance, you can use that to constrain the intrinsic and extrinsic radii based on the render distance and world height. If you set that tolerance small enough, you can hide it by approximating the region around the player as flat, and implimenting additional warping in some kind of far plane style lod system to make up for it and allow a smooth continuous toroid surface. If done right, I don't think it would be very noticable, and you should be able to have a fully cohesive looking torus block world while also keeping all the orientable/tesselated properties minecraft is known for.
