My mother invented this back when I was about 6 years old and I'm 76 now. After filling the cubes with the lemon juice, she served 4 to 6 ice cube in each tall glass, gave one to each person than hande them a FORK. Part of the FUN was chopping up your own cubes to eat the "Ice Cream" as she called them. My sister and I loved it. Then I did the same for my kids and they loved it and I never heard an adult complain about chopping up their own ice cubes. Keep in mind, the more sugar you add to your juice, the softer the ice cubes get to chop up. The less sugar, the cubes STAY as frozen water then you need a BLENDER!

I live in Atlanta where it gets really really hot. If I happen to have juice on hand I will take some of it and freeze it in ice cube trays. I pop them out I put them in a plastic freezer bag. I take a few out OK maybe six or seven and put them in a coffee mug and let them sit out for a minute or two they start to thaw out just a little bit and then they get to where you can just pick them up in with them in your mouth and they’re so good. Can’t recommended enough.

I love, love, love America's Test Kitchen!!! I am far from being a cook. I can barely boil water w/o setting the house on fire. I live vicariously through each and everyone of these kitchen geniuses! My favorite episode was when they were trying to make the perfect brownie...Mmmm. The funniest thing I came across on social media was finding a FB page dedicated to Christopher Kimball's chew. (lol) This refreshing lemon-lime ice dessert looks so tasty! I think Julia forgot to add the lime zest. I only bring it up bc this non-cooking demo might be the only thing I can actually make.

I forgot, you can mash up any fruit, banana with milk, strawberry with just sweetened water, and you can do the same thing, chop them yourself. You don't need to add lemon. Lemon is only for making lemonade ice. Try watermelon or cantaloupe or peaches. You can go on and on. Just sweeten the water generously so the cubes are easy to chop up. Chunks of fruit in your ice water is FUN.

I agree with rolling or heating the fruit to get juice flowing. However, doesn't that only apply if you are squeezing? Wouldn’t using a reamer style juice, as you are here, break open all those little juice cells anyway? Perhaps the rolling is just muscle memory every time you pick up the fruit. Great recipe!

1:28 - That's a cool gadget. An obvious improvement that comes to mind when watching this video: marks to indicate how much juice you've made. Those can certainly be added by the end user by pouring measured amounts of water into the reservoir and marking the height in some fashion, but it would be even better if it were built in. At first it might seem like such marks would be very imprecise, because the reservoir is so wide and you usually only need a little bit of juice. But notice the inner pink part. This displaces a lot of the liquid, which means the height-per-volume of those first few reams are going to have greater precision. As a matter of fact, I can't think of another reason to have that pink cone in the middle. Maybe this thing does have marks already. That's... why else would it look like that? Edit: I think I found the particular juicer used in this video online. The one I'm looking at _does_ have volume marks. And even though the volume of the marks is at equal intervals, the lower ones have more space between them. Which suggests there's something in the middle that's wider at the bottom than the top, like this one. I think the reason we don't see the marks, nor are they mentioned, in this video is because the marks are right next to the logo, and since this isn't a product test video, ATC probably doesn't want to throw an endorsement in their direction. It hasn't gone through the usual rigors. So this all makes sense. I over-analyze everything. Since this is a thing, I've done it to this thing.
