I have no intention in making a violin. But, I really enjoying seeing how one is made. As I watch, I try to imagine how the great luthiers of the 16th century used far more primitive materials and tools to do the equivalent tasks. Thank you for sharing what you have learned.

I have successfully completed one very traditional strad model and I'm starting my second loosely based on a guarnerius violin but with a black walnut back and sides. Great video series 👍

Thank you for these videos! When I was in school I tremendously enjoyed working with wood and my mother encouraged me to become a violin maker. I chose a different path but recently I wanted to get back into woodworking. There is another very good video on KZbin in which an American violin maker is explaining how to use compass and ruler to create the outline of the violin. I tired this method to shape the body of the violin. Thank you for the links to the other resources! It is a joy to watch your work and I will try to follow along.

If you don't want to do all these, there are some commercial sets you can buy out there, just that I find some of them are not very accurate, and expensive... But you will have to make the Curtate Cycloid arching templates yourself anyway, as all the commercial archings are straightly copied (more or less) from the poster, which is the worn out archings. And here's the Digital Titian Templates again: mekwok-studio.myshopify.com/products/titian-template?fbclid=IwAR18Z3whKkR3PfXumKCgGUbDs7NjYDUw07gFrOUbsIdyA1dvmSqqT44BjaI

Thanks for all these videos that explain how to make a violin. I watched the video text 1:26 "this traditional 16th century criminals made violence with a form" I don't quite understand. Maybe this "violence" means "violins", but what do you mean by "criminalists"? In what sense were they criminals - if not in the sense that they used at least the now-endangered Ebony? One thing that was unclear in the video where you show how to form the ribs: How do you actually get the mold out of the inside of the pre-glued part. With fast-forwarding and a weak viewing angle, it didn't get it at all. Which one would you have the opportunity to record on video in more detail :)

Hey! You said here 2:25 “there are no measurements included” and “make sure your printer is calibrated” my question is, what is the measurements should i calibrate in the printer? Thank you for your efforts
@MekwokStudio
@MekwokStudio 4 ай бұрын
There is no measurement on the photo, but there is a chart somewhere in the website. Follow the body length and print it with the right size.

I can't wait for the rest of the series! For the 5 arching templates, how do you know the shape is correct in between the templates? Also what about the arching on the underside? thanks!
@MekwokStudio
@MekwokStudio Жыл бұрын
Thanks! If you've watch the Tools video, there is a thing called the Sacconi Compass, we use that to draw contour lines on the plate, to see if the in between area are in good shape!

Thanks for your very instructive video. Always a pleasure to watch. I'm now building my second violin and used the Stainer 1679 model from the stradshop (not the easiest to do as a second build). I found that the pictures are somewhat misleading. Only the foto's appear to be on a 100% scale. But the drawings on the backside, except for the arching, are just sketches to show where the measurements are taken. You definitely need to be aware of that! Making a template for the neck from that poster is also a bit difficult. You can only use a foto of the scroll, but there's no dimensioning for the rest of the neck. Do you use a default template for that?
@MekwokStudio
@MekwokStudio Жыл бұрын
Yay, some of them are misleading, that’s why I make my own templates. For the scroll, I will get the outline of it from the poster and work the neck out on my own with universal measurements!

@@MekwokStudio Thank you so much for your time and effort ion making these videos! I'm preparing to start my first build. For the neck and scroll, most templates I've seen include a side view, but nothing from the top showing the dimensions of the scroll, peg box and peg locations or even width of the neck/fingerboard. Am I correct in assuming that these measurements would be taken from drawings, or are some templates or drawings available that would include these measurements? Thanks again!

Sorry for the simple question, but I want to know: Which is correct: 40 grams (shellac+sandarac) and 160 grams of alcohol, or 40 grams of ingredients and 10 grams of alcohol? Another question I have is what type of alcohol was used? Thanks for the enjoyable video

I purchased your set of Titian templates. The long arch template for the top seems very flat compared to the others, and to the Titian strad poster. Is that template supposed to span the entire length of the top?
