Thank you! Idid a wavetable where it sweeps from 0 fundamental and 1st harmonic to the full saw alowing to have it in one patch. I then automated it with a synce lfo. Adrenakrohm used a similar aproach, but had 3 wavetables in oscillators, 1 saw without fundamental and 1st Harmonic, then one with only fundamental and on with only 1st harmonic. The volume then would be controled via velocity in vital and then in the midi. I think thois approach saves some time when changing something in the patch. Also, i second the call for your take on a tutorial for kick synthesis :) such an important topic, yet so few important details flying around. for example: dash gives a good general guide but there are soo many more things to keep in mindd so that it works on a big rig.

You're introducing phase shift in the low band vs the higher ones which is a product of the crossovers. Interesting thing is Vital also has phase control of individual harmonics so this can be done in the oscillator rather than using any post processing.. In fact, all the eq changes can also been done by carefully adjusting the level of harmonics

Hey, thx for the video, yes, Dash frequently comes up with very cool techniques and ideas, I'm totally wondering why I never landed on your channel before. I'm not as experienced as you guys, after long time trial and error ...error...error... :D The finally for me working process is based on the same way, don't know where I saw it first, or if dash or e-clip came up first with it, finally I ended up combining and "translating" it from both as good as possible to the plugins I own, and my old Logic 😅 Btw. trying to design a clean bass by using as less different tools as possible, sounds for me to be the best and simply logically consistent way, not to end up neending a ton of "make up" effects afterwards to cover up or fix issues, and issues of issues of the fix... i can't really get used to various synths for bassline.. i'm back to my oldest cubase vst bass plugin for bassline.. VB1 bass i just think it's awesome..! is a free vst plugin.. clean in sound and super easy to use! 🤣 maybe too clean and too simple for certain people!😂. but you can help there as you show in your turtorial👍😉.. I insert another germanium compressor from Chandler Limiter by Softube.. really killer compresser for bassline and kicks.. has a feedback and drive mode where real 💥 is ! and then mix kick and bass together on 2 buses, one for low-end buses from about 20hz to 195hz and the 2 for high buses from 195hz - 20khz so you always have the controle in the lowend and high range separately.. then the 2nd again buses i.e. assign lowend bus and high bus together to one bus.. if you notice that your bass has too much lowend or too little you just have to give more or less in the lowend kick bass bus!😉

VB-1 is a classic, especially in Psytrance... its actually the fact that its not perfectly clean, and has this nice midrange character that makes it really shine for bass. You just have to do a bit of post processing to balance the low end and tighten it up a bit, but it's definitely one of my go-to bass synths, especially for "that" sound

nice tutorial. will u put distortion and multiband compression on the kick & bass group. or will u leave it as it is for the mastering engineer. I find especially in forest music there is so many short and heavily compressed weird baseline styles, that are kinda hard to achive. Like many parvati artists have a passion for making the weirdest baselines they can find. And i can only imagine this happening with a lot of post processing and spectral shaping aof the mighty saw tooth.

Personally I do not like to put any distortion or compression on the kick bass group, i think its better to do it on the individual channels. And yea the forest guys definitely make some cool, weird basslines!

Hey thanks for the tutorial! I wondering why there is no overlap/cancelation taking place in your example. I got almost the same plugins on my bass channel, with the same parameters and its always make my bass note longer. Mostly caused by rbass or similar bass enhancer. But also often caused by saturators.

What DAW are you using? Might be bad PDC as Cubase is famously good for PDC. Just get a time plugin and drag the channel back in ms till it realigns with the grid.

@@dorsia6938 hey, thanks for your reply. Im on ableton. I guess you talk about the plugin delay and this cause delay on my bass (and i should use a track delay to adjust the ms of the delay the plugin caused). Correct me if im wrong. But i have no problem with delay, i have the issue that the bass tail (release) is increasing when i put bass enhancer on it (even when i boost it very gently). And in theory it makes absolutely sense, because when i boost the lows the bass (sound) also gets longer. But i can't see that this happening to our friend kabayun.xD I mean in the and i have to drop it to audio and chop it and the problem is gone. Im still curious.

I have to point out that the FabFilter on the 2nd harmonic will work only if you stay in the same note...i don't remember if ProQ has midi following option or you can use the eq of DMG that has this function ;) another thing, i'm not sure, but it looks like quadrafuzz and saturn bring some delay in the attack of the bass note?

Hey Dan, thanks for the comment! Yes sorry if that wasnt clear, obviously setting the crossovers in reelations to the harmonics will only work for a specific note, since the harmonics will be in different places for different notes. I dont like to waste lots of time when starting a track, so what I do is just to set the crossovers in the right places for whatever the root note of the track is. Then I write the track and make all my various bassline patterns and even key changes, without yet worrying about the issue you mentioned, because the most important thing about writing music is to actually... write music! not just fiddle with settings all day long. Then when my track is nearing completion and I am doing the final editing and mixing, I will duplicate my bass channel into as many as I need to cover the various notes used in the track, then go into each channel and adjust not only the multiband crossovers to be in the right place for that note, but also go into the synth and adjust the filter envelope settings, because a note that is much higher pitch will need a different decay time then a low note. As to the delay, yes, depending on the initial synth and the various multibands, there can be some delay. BUT, very importantly, it is absolutely not necessary or correct to always have your bass note start exactly on the 16th note. With certain waveforms, and depending on the kick, that will make the bass sound early and out of sync with your kick. Every bass has its sweet spot where it wants to sit,. you just have to find it, and I find that is almost always slightly after the 16th note... then again, some basslines the right place IS on exactly on the 16th, so you have to take it on a case by case basis. Think about it like this... imagine you are playing an actual bass guitar. You use your fingers, or even a pick. You strum along doing 16th notes, playing along with a click track. You start each strum exactly on the 16th note click --- but your fingers take some amount of time to actually pull the string, and the actual sound of the bass note comes once you finger is off the string. there is always some natural delay because the physical motion of playing the string takes time. So do not get hung up on trying to align your bass notes to start exactly on the 16th note. Tune each one to where you like the sound and find its sweet spot where it wants to sit in relation with the kick drum and vice-versa (adjusting the kick drum as needed to fit with the bass)

I remember a workshop in Nepal (maybe 10 years ago!) where Tet (Jangaramongara ) was using Ableton grooves on the bass channel...so makes perfectly sense to don't be mandatory to have the bass note starting exactly on the 16th.
