THIS OR THAT
By Tiffany Groff
-Finished Table Runner 42.5” x 18.5” Placemats 10.5” x 14.5”
-Finished Baby Quilt 38.5” x 40.75” with 3.5” Borders
or
-40.5” x 42.5” with 4.5” Borders
Supplies for Project A (Table Runner + 4 Placemats)
1 Charm Pack (159 2.5” Squares)
-1 Yard
-1 ½ Yard Backing
-½ Yard Binding
Supplies for Project B (Baby Quilt)
1 Charm Pack (150 2.5” Squares)
-¾ Yard Sashing & First Border
-½ Yard if you want 3.5” Borders
Or
-⅔ Yard if you want 4.5” Borders
(I am leaving that decision up to the maker)
-1 ¼ Yard or 1 ½ Yard depending on size you make.
-½ Yard Binding
-Directions for both are relatively the same:
-Start by cutting your Charm Pack up into 2.5” Squares
Mix up squares for a scrappy look for each block.
For Table Runner make 8 4 across x 3 down blocks
For Placemats make 4 5 across x 3 down blocks
For Baby Quilt make 12 4 across x 3 down blocks
-For Table Runner & Placemats Cutting Instructions:
10 2.5” Strips from your yardage
Subcut
6 2.5” x 6.5” rectangles for sashing
4 2.5” x 8.5” rectangles for sashing
2 38.5” x 2.5” for top and bottom border
2 18.5” x 2.5” for side borders
8 10.5” x 2.5” for top and bottom placemats
8 10.5” x 2.5” for sides of placemats
-For Baby Quilt Cutting Instructions:
From Sashing ¾ Yard
9 2.5” Strips
Subcut To
8 2.5” x 6.5” rectangles for sashing
9 2.5” x 8.5” rectangles for sashing
2 30.5” x 2.5” for side borders
2 32.5” x 2.5” for top and bottom borders
-For Baby Quilt Second Border:
If using 3.5” strips you need 4 strips
If using 4.5” strips you need 5 strips
Measure top to add your borders.
-Construction of both projects A & B are similar
Adding 6.5” x 2.5” Sashing between each block on the sides
As shown in video
Adding 8.5” x 2.5” Sashing between each block on bottom
As shown in video
Adding Cornerstones as seen in video between each 8.5” rectangles
-Layout for Table Runner
4 blocks across x 2 blocks down
-Borders for the Table Runner are adding top and bottom pieces of 38.5” first then add the sides of 18.5
Layout for Placemats
1 Block with adding Top and Bottom borders 10.5” and then the Sides 10.5” borders
Layout for Baby Quilt
3 blocks across x 4 blocks down
-Borders on baby quilt are added to the sides first with the 30.5” pieces then top and bottom with the 32.5” pieces
For Baby Quilt
-Measure and add the size border you would like.
-Finish with some Batting+Quilting and Binding & Enjoy!!!
I hope the video and written instructions helped. I thank you for watching.

No matter how many times I watch your videos I am so glad I found your channel. You never assume we know what we are doing and give us complete instruction from start to finish. I think anyone can follow what ever project you are making. Both of these ideas are great. I also like that you tell us to do what we are comfortable with. Pinning marking cutting what ever it is. I love my magnet for my seams and I do pin I even stitch slowly and never feel like I am being judged. I think that is I enjoy your channel so much thanks for another great project option.

I always thought when you measure borders you would measure the center of the quilt top not the edge so that you aren't measuring a potentially stretched edge. It brings it back into square that way. I love this quilt, and with so many scraps I am going to make this one!
@TiffanysQuiltingLife
@TiffanysQuiltingLife 2 ай бұрын
Well, the general way is to measure the center and 2 sides. Then go off that. I tried that a lot in the beginning. I can't say all, but most were within a quarter inch. So, after that first year of measuring and pinning, I started the way I do it. I have the same results as I did before. But less time wasted on measuring and pinning. As long as you don't stretch the top and borders, it should be square every time.

These went together beautifully. My question is..when you attach your borders do you always put the long sides on first then the short sides? I have seen it both ways but I wondered is there like an industry standard for borders that you know of? Thanks. Nice job on these👍💕
@TiffanysQuiltingLife
@TiffanysQuiltingLife 3 ай бұрын
I typically do sides then top and bottom. I don't think there is a standard. It just looks cleaner, I suppose. Most quilts that I longarm have sides then rop and bottom. So I would assume it's the most popular way.

Well the blade can be knicked or dull to cause skips. If it a new blade but still skips it could be your cutting mat with deep cuts, and may need a new one. Those are always my main issues.

Hope you can help, the Jo Ann store is closing, I live in a small town in Ohio, I don’t want to drive very far. Can you recommend a affordable on line fabric shop? Thank you

I have a question Tif, if you want your baby quilt soft and light….there is going to be a lot of sewing on this quilt and that can be heavy…..what would you recommend for the batting to make a quilt for a hot weather state ie Florida. Thank you dear lady.

I usually just put 100% cotton in baby quilts. I also put flannel backs on them. I've gifted many friends baby quilts with either a nice flannel back and top quilt or the cotton batting between the top and a soft regular cotton backing. I also lightly quilt them most times.

I’ve been hearing bamboo is good for hot weather states. Anyone have a suggestion?
