This is another bending/moulding resin video. Only this time, instead of using thin plastic bags or baking paper, I am using a thicker, glossy cellophane bag. I am using this for two reasons; the first is to test the finish using a gloss surface and to see how it conforms when draped over a glass vase. I love the results!
This is a very quick and simple technique that produces fantastic results. It is definitely worth trying.

Sue I watch your videos all the time. You do very amazing work I love it! I tried this one and it was a flop . I didn't make it big enough, and I see in the comments you use 300 MLS for both pieces so that will help. It looks like you use more than 3 colors magenta, purple and white and it looks like there's some gray in there. I'm just getting started out with acrylic pour painting and resin . I got my cellophane at the Dollar tree for a dollar and it worked beautifully and it just came right apart when it was dry. it was a little thin and I didn't think it was going to work so I went to hobby lobby and got a better cellophane roll Thank you for all the inspiration that you have given me,I love your videos you're very inspiring and very very talented thank you so much for sharing.

I let it sit for about 5 hours and when I try it to put it on the cup to get shape it start to dripping off and in the end it was all on the table . Please help ….maybe I should let the resin to dry more hours? I live in a hot country maybe I should be patient … please tell me what you think
@SueFindlay

You need to wait until it is semi-cured, the right time will depend on your resin. The resin should be soft, but not sticky. You should also make sure you are using a coating resin and not a casting resin.

Thank you 💕 I use a standard coating resin. I buy mine fro U Resin, however, you can use resin that is local to you. Let it cure until it is no longer sticky before transferring it to your vase or whatever you use to shape it.

I’m trying so hard to make these, one of five or six has turned out the way I like it. One of the issues I have is that when I pour my resin onto the cellophane it runs instead of staying in a puddle. Next one I’m going to let my resin set up longer, do you think that will help?
@SueFindlay

Yes, that should help. Be careful not to let it sit for too long. Or try another brand of reein.

You’re welcome 💕 this process is quite easy, the hard part is knowing when to move the curing resin. With a little bit of practice you will get to know your resin and it will become second nature to you. I wanted to show different ways you can do this to achieve different results, that way you can see other possibilities for your resin art.

Ok. THAT is EPIC. Another gorgeous Sue Findley design. I want to move into your creative space and soak up some of your extra creativity. Your daughter is SO blessed! Quick question...wgen you place the layers on the vase why don't you place the second layer directly on the first? (Instead of keeping the plastic sheets between the layers.) If you have layer one then why can't you place layer two "face down" on top of layer one on the vase when they are still in the soft cure stage? Wouldn't that save work at the end?
@SueFindlay
@SueFindlay 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I keep the layers separate because I want to maintain the layered look, otherwise they will merge into one. When I glue them together, they are only really glued at the base and you can see how it is layered. Plus, I can still reposition the top layer if it needs it, whereas, if I just stick it on top, it has to stay where it lands. One other thing, glueing the two layers together gives it that added strength, especially if you end up with some thin spots in the creases from the bending and stretching 😉

When I get back from the states and the house here is closer to completion, this is something I would LOVE to do. I wonder if we could make bowls, lamp shades and lightbulb covers with these beautifully shaped resin pieces? They remind me of the gorgeous, handblown glass shaped bowls from the 1980's when I was dying to have one. Now we could do it so easily with resin! Love the touch of glass crystals around the edges of the piece, fracturing the light as it passes through. Magical! Thank you Sue Findlay

Can be used to keep jewellery or on wash basin slabs to put the extra clutter ( cotton buds/ moisturisers). And cupcakes with their bottom wrapper intact can still be safely placed on the stand 😊

I have replied to your comment on Instagram. Good resins won't be the cheapest and likewise, the cheapest won't be the best. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. Find which resins are available to you and then do your research to see what will work best for you. Don't make the mistake of buying a cheap resin, if it doesn't do what you want it to do, it will end up being a very costly mistake. Good luck with your search 💕

@SueFindlay
@SueFindlay 4 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you are doing. If I am creating a wall art, I use an online calculator to give me a rough estimate. For the bowls, it can depend on how large I want to make it. If I have mixed two much, I will make another with the leftovers. I don't waste any resin and use it to make small trinket dishes. 💕

Not all resins are created the same, you need to test your resin before creating your project. As you have found out, resin can stick to certain plastics. Do tests on both sides of the plastic, because I have heard that in some cases, the resin doesn't stick to the other side.

I have used a number of different plastics and even used baking paper. I have heard that resin sticks to certain plastics, so I would test a small amount of resin on the plastic you have, let it cure and see if it can be removed. Remember, whatever you place it on, it will take on the properties of that item. What I mean by that is, if the item is shiny, your resin will come out shiny, if it is matte, it will come out matte. Something to bare in mind when choosing your plastic.

How do you get the plastic off if it sticks?
@SueFindlay
@SueFindlay 3 жыл бұрын
Not all plastic sticks to resin. You have to find the one that works for you. If you can't get it off, trim the plastic to the resin. You won't be able to see it. 💕

Sue I absolutely love your gorgeous artwork and have been following you. After several “bending” fails, I figured out I need casting resin, not coating resin (which has been presenting with stress cracks). What is the name of the resin you use.

I don't use casting resin, although, all resins are different. I use liquid glass from U Resin. It is a coating resin. 💕

@@SueFindlay Hiya Sue,I've almost created a vase type bowl in exactly the same way as you did, however I'm struggling to remove the cellophane wrap,the cast is still very pliable (12hours curing) should i leave it longer before trying to remove it. Thank you x

I love all your art work Sue! Big Fan. Could you tell me if you open your cellopane bags to a single layer or do you use the whole bag? Your link goes to a cellophane roll not bags ,is this also ok to use?
@SueFindlay
@SueFindlay 5 жыл бұрын
I do split the bag, so that I could use both sides for each layer. The cellophane roll is what I found as an alternative to the bags. This is what I would buy if I didn’t already have the bags.
