So I just checked the sell through rate for my 100 listings on eBay. Nothing was over 50% and I'm wondering why I'm lucky to have one sale a week! (Almost all of my items were free for me, either new items from Amazon pallets or vintage ceramics). I was thinking "100% profit, minus fees", but it's zero profit if nothing sells. Shoes do seem like an easy product to resell... but personally, I only buy shoes if I can try them on first, because getting the right fit can be tricky. I would think you'd get a lot of returns from people like me who normally take a size X, but find that in this one particular shoe they need a size larger or smaller. So, isn't this kind of a high-return product to sell?

Well this explains where all the shoes go from the bin places like Goodwill. Here in Nashville there a group that once the bin comes out swarm, push people aside and take everything then go through the shopping carts later. They dont make sure when grabbing if there is a match or any damage. They tell you the shoes including high heels are sent to poor countries in africa but looks like they go to Florida. Quite the profit when they buy by the pound and sell high. They buy nothing else but shoes

I asked a lot of the people I know who are just buyers on eBay, they all said yeah they look at rating but if your one bad rating is not really relevant then it doesn’t deter them. I have a neutral feedback of the item was wrapped to well and a negative that the new product just didn’t work, none of those really can compare to the 100s of good feedback, just keep going!

Poshmark policy is you can complain about stuff you just get to say something to them with out a comment and you would get your money back and you also get to keep the out fit if they thing the other person is right
@beeznutts3323
@beeznutts3323 Жыл бұрын
Hi guys. I'm fairly certain you are calculating the sell through rate incorrectly. Sell-through rate = (number of units sold/number of ALL units received) x 100 So for ebay, a sell through rate must include ALL items listed (both sold and active listings) in the denominator. So in your example, the equation would be 195/535=.3644 or a sell through rate of 36%. The 535 comes from the ebay listings sold(195)+active(340) which are both factored into the denominator. The way you did it in the video doesn't really tell you anything, as there is no commonality between the two totals (sold/active). The numbers are arbitrary to each other in your example. Think of it like a batting average, which is just a hitting rate for a baseball player. The average comes from the amount of hits they get divided by the amount of at-bats (hits + non hits). It is not divided only by the amount of non-hits. A batter with 30 hits in 100 at bats has a .300 avg (30/100). Your method would give them a .429 (rounded up) avg which is incorrect (30/70). For ebay specifically, this still wouldn't be 100% correct, because some sellers may not relist the items, and we're not factoring in completed/non-sold items. If we did, then we would run into the problem of counting a listing multiple times. We're assuming most sellers relist when unsold. Hope this helps everybody. If I'm wrong here, please explain why. P.S. Yeah, I know, nerd alert! 🤓
@RALLIROOTS
@RALLIROOTS Жыл бұрын
For sure, both ways will give you an idea of if you should buy the item or not which is the point. We’ve used the sold/active method for 8 years and it works but yeah if you want to get precise, and if that helps ya, go for it. All I really care about is getting the item sold.
@beeznutts3323
@beeznutts3323 Жыл бұрын
@@RALLIROOTS Understood. The idea is to get the items sold as quickly as possible. No argument there. But the sold/active method is not a sell through rate. It's actually not a rate at all. A less common item could have 5 active and 10 sold which by your math comes out to a 200% sell though rate, which just isn't accurate and physically impossible. It would be 66% which is drastically different (although still worth pursuing). A lot of people use your videos to help their business, and they should know the correct method. A sell through rate is important to a business and they should know the real rate. The sold/active method isn't even worth calculating, as all you are really doing is comparing sold to active. One could just say there is 340 listed and 195 sold and stop there. The solution provided by that equation is not a rate. Numbers can lie if the equation is incorrect. I love your videos by the way. Just want others to know the correct way. This is meant as constructive criticism. peace and love
@RALLIROOTS
@RALLIROOTS Жыл бұрын
Tomato TOMato, we’re not talking about anything significant except for calculating if/how fast an item is going to sell. I 100% appreciate the criticism and I 200% agree you are mathematically correct, but at the end of the day this isn’t a math exam and not calculating the sell through rate how you want me to isn’t going to cause harm to you or anyone else. If there’s 5 active and 10 sold I’m going to keep saying it’s a 200% sell through rate, which just means it’s a good buy 😉 thanks for watching.

I will never say you can't make any money from Flea Market items but 95% of the people selling there are Resellers and are in it for the quick buck, cash, not having to store items for long periods of time. Countless videos I've watched and the prices are 90% Ebay prices. I've watched other KZbinr's videos who source at the Flea Market and even comment at times that they're paying for certain shoes what I have mine listed for, the same exact shoes. I'm only 3 years into Reselling and I've been to numerous Flea Markets but not anymore because the prices aren't worth picking up. Sure you'll find a booth or seller who will give you a deal but 9 times out of 10 that pair of Jordan's you want are on Ebay for $60-80 and at the Flea Market they want $40-50.

Don’t let this comment ^ discourage you folks! Go out and hustle :)

@RALLI ROOTS Definitely not meant to discourage anyone I just don't want the average reseller (especially a new one) to go to their local Flea Market and expect this type of stuff or really cheap prices, then they will be discouraged. You were my first Reselling KZbin videos I watched many years ago before I even went full-time and after quitting my 16 year career and going all in on Reselling I do have a different mindset than I used to before and in my early years. Don't get me wrong I'll pay $50 for something if it's going for $100+ especially back when there were no fees on shoes over $100. Again not taking a shot at you or the video because I enjoy them I just don't want some noob to get "discouraged" when they gotta pay up for something or when the asking prices are Ebay prices.

Totally agree for new sellers, depending on the sell through rate. People have different models too. Ours is a volume and turnover business. I’d rather have 30% of $2,000,000 than 80% of $100,000.

I can't remember but is ther especially ebay rule about having to have higher prices shoes authentic ticated before selling them on ebay? I picked up a odd pair of nikes at yard sale and they sell for around 130-$150..are they OK to list or need to be authenticated. They are new in original box

They’ll automatically go through authentication, you don’t need to do anything differently

Ryan, a GREAT video. I appear to be doing everything right or as you suggested. I do not do free shipping on any items but you have me thinking about maybe on the shoes. P.S.--It appears you are missin the wife and Callie too -- don't worry they will be home soon. Take care.
