My dad and I use to do this exact same thing (well similar thing) in the late 90s and early 2000s except we’d actually go to the auctions to place bids. We’d get a faxed list of cars up for auction each week from 2 locations then go scope out what we wanted the day of the auction. Some of these lists would be 100s of pages long. We would buy 5 - 15 per week. Sometimes body damage but no junk and never salvage or rebuilt titles. We had a bunch of retired senior citizen friends we knew from the country club and would pay them for 2 days of work plus 1 night at a hotel near the auction to drive the cars back (saved a ton of money on shipping). We made a killing, then the Great Recession hit. We could see the writing on the wall and decided to cut our loses early so we ended up not really being affected by the down turn in the economy. Sometimes I wish I was still in that game but what I got going on now is much better. The lessons I learned during that time period (late teens - mid 20s) def helped me to get where I am today!

I’ve been selling cars from auction for months. The hardest part of it is getting a rebuilt title. Most inspections don’t have it. You lose months of time in advance/ profit. I wouldn’t recommend this business unless you have the funding. I bought bad cars from auction because the undercarriage was messed up. Don’t do this business if you’re looking to get rich fast, it isn’t fast. It’ll take months/ years of experience to even start without losing your money at once.

Getting a rebuilt title isn't that hard bro, at least here in the Detroit area. I've been buying cars from copart and IAA since I was in high school (8+ yrs) and I've never had an issue with inspections and getting the rebuilt titles from the secretary of state, and I've probably bought at least 40 salvage cars.

Great info, I've only bought off copart and can verify first hand what you said about iaai being more clear on the damage. Luckily I haven't taken a loss yet but have come close. I do try to stay on the no license required auvehicles but did use autobidmaster for my first one. It was a pretty smooth transaction. Do note for other buyers though, depending on the state if you don't get the proper paperwork some states (like kentucky) will make you pay taxes on the nada value of the vehicle rather than the sales price. I had to argue with the Atlanta lot to notarize a form (ky tc-95 I believe) so I didn't pay 150% more on taxes then what I actually bought it for

Also be careful & have your local County Clerks/Tax Office run the VIN# so you'll know if you can Title the Vehicle in your State before purchasing, especially Coastal States. Texas seized my 2004 Honda Odyssey that had a clear Blue Texas Title for 9yrs because Florida made a mistake when inputting a VIN# for a similar vehicle. My Van was never in Florida! However, they marked it as, Destroyed & unsafe for Texas Roadways! So I was given 2 weeks to surrender my Title or the Sheriff was coming! All Coastal States have a new Computer System tied into each other to prevent the sale of stolen, damaged, Flooded Vehicles, etc. I lost my beautiful Granny cared for completely loaded Honda Odyssey Van. After I sold it for scrap, they called a year later & said, I could have my Title back! After they told me that I could only sale for Scrap! Talk about Mad! I was pissed off!
