From my understanding, Loren Bouchard is actually a musician himself and writes most of the music in Bob's Burgers. I think this is a big reason why the music in the show just hits different. The creator himself is writing these songs rather than the creator commissioning someone to fulfill the need or desire to have a musical number.

When you were talking about people thinking you're "odd" when talking about things you're passionate about, I really felt that...

My autistic arse knows this feelin all too well, glad to only live with NDs now and also have a friend group that is almost only NDs. Makes it much easier when others share your unironic enthusiasm.

@@harrietdrums I feel ya sm on that hehe, i see all these ppl talkin about how they relate to the Bobs Burgers chars cuz theyre odd like them... And my ND arse is just "Your probs ND then", but i dont wanna armchair diagnose ppl at the same time xD Just, their specific oddities are things highly common among NDs; and that even extends beyond the family, as many of the locals are also clearly ND.

I only have one thing to say: EXACTLY! I have always felt such a strong connection and comfort when I watch Bob’s Burgers. And I think this explains it. I’ve always been “odd”. And this is a show for odd people

Right! In Father of the Bob, his father praises his parenting by saying, "You got happy kids. Weird, happy kids." And it reminds me of my own family a lot. We're unconventional but love each other, I love seeing a similar family portrayed in tv

This is my favorite episode! I believe it was also very influential because we get to see a very vulnerable side of Louise and how deep her relationship is with Bob. When we look at Louise’s relationship with Linda, it’s very complex and it seems as if she has some internalization‘s regarding her mom: an example being Linda’s drinking. I feel like Louise is a very spunky and forward character, but her remarks and comments seem to hold a different type of weight and emotion behind it. I really felt the relation she holds with bob behind this beautifully crafted piece. I actually felt sorry for Louise in this episode, it’s just such a shift from how she typically is: this is an intimate glimpse of Louise. Her fever dream episode was also really good! Louise is giving Aries and page of wands energy, lol but anyways I love the amount of attention and layering that Bob’s Burgers holds. This was a great video essay

I found this video just because I had to look up this episode on KZbin and see if anyone else was as in love with this song and surprisingly touched by this episode as I was and I'm so happy you made a whole video about it! I only expected to get some comments underneath the song or something but this was way better ❤

This is a otherwise great video essay, but as a classically trained musician I feel remiss not pointing this out: what you were referring to in the song as counterpoint is more accurately a countermelody. Whereas a countermelody is two simple melodic lines that happen to share a harmonic outline, counterpoint is more of a whole theory of composition that relies on specific tonal relationships and how they interact. While much of modern tonal music is still based on on the relationships that counterpoint was founded on, to call something “counterpoint” implies that the crux of the piece is in the independent relationships and not just two or three lines. Basically while the ideas of a countermelody are based in counterpoint, the overall tonal structure of the contrapuntal section is not necessarily counterpoint. I know…I had a whole class in college on how to write that shit

Bob’s burgers is so nice. One of my favorite things is that they act like an actual family, being stupid and mean but also caring about one another and being there for each other no matter what. This contrasts heavily with shows like family guy or the Simpsons, where characters are just awful to one another. It gives a sense of comfort, knowing that they’re gonna take care of one another. That being said, I hate Tina and will die on that hill.

I mean... Ya act like that but my biofamily growin up wudbe resembled Simpsons, Family Guy, or American Dad way more than Bobs Burgers or King of the Hill; where we see good familes represented, that just have their problems but work thru them together bcuz they love each other no matter their diffs
