I loved this video!! I have to try the melon with shaved berry ice. I was not sure about the savory but when you were eating it, I now need to try that too. I am happy I found your channel. I have been watching tabieats. I have never heard of this, but I think I had the savory mixed with a seaweed salad. I will buy more if that too, and see it with new eyes.

Aww, I want to try Tokoroten so badly - I love, love, love all kind of jelly-like stuff (sweet as well as savoury). Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to find tengusa seaweed in Switzerland. So I will try the agar-agar version and continue waiting eagerly for the moment when I can finally come to Japan to try the real thing :-) Thank you so much for this educational and entertaining video!

Love your videos Satoshi. Thank you. The yellow color made me think of mango, I assume we can use different flavors and have a delicious tokoroten.
They look so simple to make, yet so appetizing! I like the savory version 😍 Is this the same thing as konyaku noodles?

Wish I could get tenkusa here. I have to make due with kanten. Never thought about flavouring the tokoroten for dessert before it becomes jelly. I always seen it with some syrup served (kuromitsu usually) but the tokoroten itself was not really flavoured. Great idea to make flavoured tokoroten. But I think especially on really hot days, I would prefer the vinegar based tokoroten sauce. I've seen the tokoroten maker made from bamboo; I would love to have one os those even though teh plastic Daiso one is probably easier to clean.

so this can be made without any sugar what-so-ever? Can we use a natural squeezed fruit juice to make it flavored? And if so how much would we need. Like if I wanted to make lemon or lime flavored. Or maybe a strawberry flavored? Can it be done with a fresh fruit that I can puree up?
@kantanfood3 жыл бұрын
Some fruits contain strong acid are not good for agar agar. Lemon or lime is maybe too strong acid . Other fruits are ok but normal juice sweetness is weak I think. I recommend to use some kind of natural sweetener. ( in case of gelatin, pineapple or kiwi is not recommended to use because they have enzyme which melt proteins)
