I have the mono but when you need an eraser and forgot you ran out, you don't want to wait a week for it, Yes you could use it with just your hand but you don't get the same control over the erasing. And is more likely to be misplaced due to its smaller size. Mono might be cheap in some countries but not in Australia and if you live remotely as I do, there is always a long wait for mail, that gets delivered twice a week. Plus it is fun to be self sufficient and not buying everything we possibly can, just because we can. Great job reminding us, we don't have to contribute to the worlds obsession, of throwing things away and replacing it with another object, that contributes to the rubbish of our poor world, when we can recycle instead.

Dear Roni Bancroft, Thank you so much for your kind words, after reading your comment i am satisfied that today my aim for making this tutorial is fulfilled. i always prefer my own custom made equipments for my work, because when we buy an equipment from market we get used to it and we start to develop our skill according to the availability of that equipment and when we go out there for a competition and we forget to bring our equipments along, then we realize that we should learn to make that equipment ourselves. believe me, it happened to me in my National level competition & then i made my own blending stumps from a paper and Mono eraser through this technique :)

It is interesting to read the negative comments to the poster who said to just go and buy a Tombow Mono. I agree with him. To get the quality of the Tombow Mono you are going to have to buy a decent quality eraser in the first place who’ll be around the cost of the Mono Zero. While you may get 2 or 3 ‘eraser points’ out of a bought one for this hack, there will still be a lot of waste. Great idea but a lot of work for a lot of waste.

Hi capyboppy, you are absolutely right but actually the problem is different here, This tombow eraser isn't available is some developing countries including pakistan, and we have to buy this eraser online and the cost get increased by 4 or 5 times. i recently bought this eraser from an USA based art store and it costs me about 21$ after arrival in pakistan.

Maryam Zahra Arts that is such a shame. I wonder why that is? There are so many talented artists in India and also Pakistan. A friend of mine sent me a video where the artist was using rope that had been dipped in paint. He rolled the rope around so the paint went onto the paper, and he did this with music playing in the background. In the end he had created a woman’s face using just the ink covered rope.

I am not an artist. But I use only one side of my eraser for normal erasing so in the other side I have four sharp corners. I use the corners to erase a little bit from eyes. 🙂

I don't know what other eraser you can buy where you live but, depending on the needs, maybe a kneaded eraser would be a better/simpler choice. Usually one can buy kneeded erasers as soft, medium and hard. You can easily create any shape you want or need over and over again and they will erase even way finer points or lines as the tombow mono (at least with graphite. Also you don't need to rub them over the paper, they don't wear down and you can use them until they are "full" (too dirty). I think with the hard type from this kind of eraser, creating a "pen-eraser" as shown, would also be possible and you don't have so much waste in form of shavings.

Yes what you did works, but the mechanical features that are present in the mono zero are pretty essential if you want a smooth uninterrupted work. Otherwise your eraser will eventually wear down and you'll have to unwrap it extended it and then wrap it up again.

Nope! I have big stumpy sausage fingers but I'm still creative. Admittedly my sausage fingers do get in my own way at times and I accidentally slipped with a craft knife and sliced off a chunk of finger not so long ago. 🤭 It would probably be better if I had longer skinny fingers but hey ho, you gotta work with what you have! 😁( Now 9 and 3/4 digits after my mishap!!🤣)

I do very similar, but just keep the pieces of eraser square. I can make at least 4 erasers out of onestandard staedtler mars. I rip them length-wise so they come out approx 1/4 inch x 1/4 inch. I have wooden sticks with a simple drill chuck type thing (same principle as you used here) a hole drilled into the end, 4 vertical cuts. I use small lenghts of bike inner tube or elastic bands to tighten the chuck around the eraser. It only takes a moment to loosen it and readjust as the thing wears down. I have quite a few. Some days I can go through an entire eraser (heavy user) The other thing I sometimes use is the mars plastic 528-55 round erasers and fit them into a stick too. I like the long stick to draw with, more like using a paint brush Tombow seems OK but the refills wouldnt last me more than an hour on a good day, too expensive. Looks like you get 2 inches of usable eraser and 4 inches of useless plastic...?

Hi Shahzad Chaudhary ! Actually Tombow isn't available on local Art Stores on pakistan. I bought this eraser from a website which deals with the amazon products in pakistan (amazonshopping.pk). and the other supplies like pencils and eraser are available on every art store in almost every city, you just have to find an Art & Craft store near your place.
