I bet the first ever graphite pencil used by Pakistani kids probably from 90s to 2000-08 were the Goldfish pencils. I feel so nostalgic and happy seeing you using it. Nowadays there are many new pencil companies but for me Goldfish pencils and colors were best

Hello Ali!I am learning so much from your tutorials !Art school is great for getting a foundation but what artists learn from other artists is so much more valuable!!This was yet another great tip! I have so many old pencils and I got to thinking and I tried this with some of my old water color pencils that were broken or to short and I put it in little make up containers it made really amazing water color powder! Thanks for the tip and inspiration!

I use a mechanical clutch pencil, the type with the sharpener on the back end. Every time I sharpen my lead I tap the sharpener into a bowl. Since I use powdered graphite only occasionally this method gives me enough for my needs.

80 and 100 grit will make way too thick powder. I use 300 to 400 grit, creates the dust you pay 20$ to buy. Also use cheap pencils that don't have glue on the graphite, like quality expensive pencils do.

Metal/cast iron pestle and mortar mate... way better no spraying every particle collected. Cost you about 20 dollars but it's a once in a life time time buy, i also use it on my worn down water colour pencil crayons. And you can grind spices bonus! You might also.consider making charcoal. Easy peasy, You can make a kiln with s metal paint can then some sticks and an.open flame fire. Pierce holes in can lid put in your sticks place it in the flames for an hour or so. Steam will pour out the holes but thats good it means theres no oxygen getting to your sticks therefore not incinerating the wood. Sounds like a faff i know but once youve done it once its simple. The you can simply pulverise your charcoal. Chacoal powder is way better than graphite too as it is less shiney on your page anc the black values are higher.

I sharpen my woodcase graphite pencils just as Ali does, and keep a little rectangular snap-top container on my art table. Every time I sharpen, I save the excess graphite. It's a mix of all different hardnesses, but it seems to work. As Ali does, I usually only use it for large areas, not where detail is important, so it's worth taking a moment each sharpening, vs doing a ton of pencils at once, unless you really need a large quantity at one time.

I've been making my graphite powder since 2015. I started using graphite powder because my cousin gave me some for my art exams because he draws too. I accidentally spillt majority of it and i teied making some with with the hammer method and i didn't like it because it wasn't fine enough so I thought why not use extra fine Sand paper and I didn't ask my cousin for anymore graphite powder since then.

For some reason, every time I use a tissue to blend or spread graphite, I get these little splotches that won't go away. They're just big finger-sized dots that appear out of nowhere. It's maddening. I don't know why it's doing it.
