I love how Tomo and his teaching is just all about what AI and Midi Instruments will never be able to replicate. About embracing the connection of music with emotion and other articulations like vocals leading to quirky yet delicate expressions that make all the difference.

Thank you for explaining this tone Tomo-san, it’s an honor to have this sound explained by a legend like yourself. It’s so impressive that you were already so skilled when you were only that young. You can really hear the Masayoshi Takanaka and all of the influences that you use to create your own sound, it’s very cool how this style is coming back now!

Super cool to critique your own work from another era of guitar that bridges from that time to today where jazzy guitar was not that funky or vice versa 40 years ago. I have heard of horn stabs on guitar yet that was a guitar stab, unique in phrase. Love the innovative comparisons so slight from then and now. Best-

Mr Distorted’s opinion is: I love when you play distorted electric guitar because you do it beautifully and sound so fittingly great. Also there is something so immediate, hungry and Rock n Roll with young Tomo playing inside music. Again you are so very wise teacher showing what can be learnt from younger years and your most powerful lesson: ” Play For Real”. It is also so true in studio partly to take a break and break and reset locked pattern by laughter-that is so great! I recall reading in Guitar Player magazine 1985 studio advice to take 10 minutes break instead of doubling down and in studio for an EP recording taking 15 minutes in a bell tower meditating visualizing different approach. It worked but I think I could have used the laughter and thanks I will remember that for next studio recording.

Thanks so much for sharing! It was very interesting to hear myself from 40 year old recording. I never ever thought I can learn from myself! A lot of passion and freedom of young sprit! I had to have one hour break in the middle of playing my solo! It worked! We watched very silly comedy!

My favorite guitar tone of all time is basically in this pedalboard: Prince in the 80's, SD-1 and DD-2. You can hear it perfectly in this rehearsal where Prince plays a 20 minute instrumental: youtube com watch?v=IvWAgFnQr9Q Amazing video once again Tomo.
