Welcome! In this video, I show how to make an easy water tile that is great for Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) or wargaming. While a water battle mat might be simpler for covering a large area, these water tiles are an excellent introduction to terrain building and are super satisfying to make and paint. I hope you find this tutorial helpful. If you have any questions, please leave a comment, and I will try to answer it as soon as I can.
If you enjoyed this video, please leave a like and/or comment. I appreciate any constructive feedback.
Thanks for watching,
Kay

I have never tried a whole tile before. I have done water-hazards with this technique. This is the first time I have seen someone else use spackle to make water. the roller brush is genius. great job

Thanks! The idea is actually from Black Magic Craft. I don't think he ever made a video on it, but he explained it somewhere, so I figured I'd make a tutorial on it

Fingers will wear away if you don’t give them that extra layer of durability ;) Besides, who has time to paint AROUND them? :D. Thanks for watching!

I like this technique a lot. I'm doing a large naval thing in a large scale (54mm) and your video here is an instant contender for the two top ideas I might try - thanks very much!

Thank you! Good luck on your project. I am curious - what's the other technique? I'm relatively new to the hobby, and I'm always down to learn more.

@@okayminiatures7573 kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKDPaINupK10oZY but I have several others that are influencing me as well and are definitely relevant...will post those to you soon...I'm trying to do my water on a rolling mat instead of a foam board or tiles...but, for example, I think I can maybe use your technique with caulking for a mat! :)
@okayminiatures7573
@okayminiatures7573 3 жыл бұрын
That video's technique looks pretty nice, although it might a bit time consuming for larger projects. Using caulking on a mat is a great idea! I like foam board, but having a mat that could roll up would be awesome. I look forward to hearing updates on your project :)

Thank you! I think there's quite a few different colors that would look nice depending on what your're going for (ocean, lake, pond, etc).

This was exactly the kind of craft idea I was looking for. What a great idea and by far, the most realistic I've seen. How do the mini's work out when you stand them on the waves? EDIT: I also really liked the water color choices, too.
@okayminiatures7573
@okayminiatures7573 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Credit has to go to Black Magic Craft for the idea :) As for minis, the waves are pretty small so they don’t make things too uneven. Minis with hollow bases do just fine for the most part. Minis with flat bases rock a little but can stand just about anywhere still

It's a nice, quick and easy way to do this, although I've done my bigger "water board" for sea encounters with ye olde toilet paper and glue method that model train builders have been using for ages. Takes a lot, LOT longer though than this.

@@okayminiatures7573 meh, realism is overrated - I just had oodles of time during the various lock downs. I just saw a video from Tabletop Witchcraft from nearly a year ago where he does under water riles with a resin cover and I'm very tempted to do that with a big board, since my latest campaign is very pirate-y and, lol, since I got about 3 litres of resin standing around that are ageing and need to be used up

please use at least some paper to spare the borrowed table, and you will not have to juggle brushes on towers of foam anymore . awesome technique, never seen that before! thanks!

True, but I still don't know if I'd trust paper to keep all manner of nastiness off of the table. It'd definitely help though...
